  1. The bullet holes in the doorframe are awesome!

     

    I guess these doors replace the loading doors of Resi games in the past that have used them!

    This game won't need loading doors (like Resi 4 didn't), but it's a homage to them and now you get the satisfaction of blasting straight through them!

     

    I'm hoping that you can open doors like you did in RE4. Kicking down a door with a front kick.

     

    Currently, that's how I open doors in real life.


  2. Resi 4 is probably my favourite game ever. I own it on both PS2 and GC and this version, as long as it turns out well should give me the best of both worlds + improved controls and proper widescreen :D

     

    The best of both worlds is (GCN) better graphics, improved controls + (PS2) proper widescreen and extra content.

    You're saying it the way it WAS. Things change.

     

    Once upon a time, before 1983 Atari was synonymous with videogames. In 1985 up to 1989, people used to say "he's/she's playing Nintendo". Nintendo was synonymous with the word videogames. Then Sony came along in 1997 and the Playstation brand name was identified with videogames.

     

    It's 2007 and the Playstation brand name is suffering the same fate as Atari and Nintendo. It's the way it works. Atari started selling crappy games (E.T. the extra terrestrial anyone?) and people put them aside. Nintendo wanted to control their own cartridge format instead of adopting the popular CD format and after they lost third party support, people stopped supporting Nintendo. Now Sony want people to spend a small fortune on a "computer" and plenty of those people are finding BETTER options to spend their money on.

     

    It's silly to think that the Playstation brand name will not suffer the same fate as the other has-been dominant gaming brands. In fact, people have already moved on to other brands. Some new ones (Xbox360) and even to some older ones (Nintendo).


  4. A new job listing at Japan's E-Career recruiting site makes mention of the start of a new Wii project. And the poster of the job listing? None other than Media Vision, creators of Sony's Wild Arms series.

     

    According to the listing, Media Vision is seeking programmers for both the start of a new Wii project and for general mobile game development. The site doesn't provide any information on the new Wii game, but it does make heavy mention of the developer's success with the Wild Arms series, along with the fact that the female staff held a Valentines event where staff members played bingo to win chocolate sake and tofu.

  5. I dont understand what all this 'monumental announcement' stuff is about, Sega have been working closly with Nintendo for years

     

    Too old school gamers, the fact that Mario and Sonic are featured in the same game makes it monumental. If you started off playing games from the psOne/N64/Dreamcast you'll probably don't get what's the big deal.

  6. Well, I'm not that interested in anime/manga games... however, I know there is a huge market for this sort of thing. So the more the better, I guess.

     

    I only know about Dragon Ball and a little Pokemon anime here and there... that's about covers it... does "Scooby-Doo Get-A-Clue" count as anime?

    Could be... however, I bet most of the type that found her polygons attractive were actually 13-17 year old teenagers. Puberty+testosterone= Me like Lara Croft very much.

     

    And I remember playing the first Tomb Raider, right after playing Super Mario 64. And it was terrible. Just making Lara jump & turn around was a chore. I couldn't figure out what the big deal was about Tomb Raider, since the gameplay sucked monkey balls. So I figured it was all about Lara Croft. And I was right.

     

    However, Legend is a good game.


  8. Mind you, I wish Kondo would change from the jazzy latin style he usually has. It's alright for Zelda games (especially Wind Waker was awesome), but I felt Mario Sunshine didn't have a very memorisable sound to it. Although I loved the Delfino Plaza tune.

  9. Ask most people to name a famous film score composer and chances are that only John Williams would occur more than once.

     

    No, depends who you asked. If you asked Star Wars/Harry Potter freaks, they would say that. But some others would mention Danny Elfman (Batman, Spiderman, The Simpsons, etc.) and some more would mention Jerry Goldsmith (Alien, Poltergeist, Star Trek films, etc.). James Horner is the one behind Titanic and he probably is known by quite a few people.

     

    Among Videogame composers, I usually read more about Mr. Kondo and Tommy Tallarico.


  10. problem with suda is that he subsitutes art over gameplay. So usually expenting a pretentious gaming art + stuff that will appeals to teens. Shame as the style looks cool...but so were games like Killer and XIII before I played them :( Anyway, glad its good to be optimistic. Suda is the opposite of Myamoto. So take yor pick

     

    That's an exaggerated view on it. It's not like Suda 51 makes you experience games where you sit there for hours and stare at the artsy graphics. Because you don't. You still have to play. And some times, play hard.

     

    Killer 7 was on rails, like Star Fox 64. I enjoyed both of them. As I saw it, Killer 7 avoided me having to waste time trying to open doors that didn't open. In other "sand-box" games (GTA, True Crime), you roam around in places where you only interact with certain things. Most doors are just decorations and many buildings are off limits.

     

    I expect the same thing will happen in NMH, but that won't be a real problem. The game itself will probably give you hints as to where to go and how to get to what you need. That's how it was in Killer 7. And in practically every Miyamoto game.

     

    And yes, thankfully we can "take our pick" as to what games we want to play. And NMH looks amazing and probably will play amazing as well.

    I wonder who made it... he/she/all of them should be hired by Ninty.

     

    It's like that Chrono Trigger remake being developed by fans of the game. They released a trailer with everything in 3D and they had to stop production because Square demanded it.

     

    Fans with talent. Gotta love it.


  12. Personally, I thought the 'interactive' element in the music for TP that midi allows wasn't handled well anyway. I found it actually quite annoying whenever I came even vaguely near to an enemy and the obnoxiously uninspired 'danger' music kicked in. Sometimes you kill an ememy before the music rears it's ugly head and then it pops-up too late, only to accompany a scene of serenity over Hyrule Field. I'm not against the idea in general, but I think it could have been a bit more subtle..

     

    Y'know... I've been playing games with MIDI based music for ages. And when what you said happens to me (killing an enemy before the music spawns), instead of feeling bad about it, I feel great. Because I was able to kill the enemy THAT freakin' fast. I even have a chuckle. Never found that annoying or obnoxious.

     

    What I would find annoying would be a game where the music is not interactive and never changes it's mood. So one moment I'm walking on a field with serene music and the next moment I have to fight with the same serene music in the background. In most cases, the game dev will cut to the battle scene with the screen going black and then after some seconds, you're fighting with different music in the background. Having to go through all that process everytime can be annoying. So I'm all for interactive music and MIDI's seem to be the best way to go. Not that I don't want orchestral music in my videogames. If it's done right, I'm all for it.

    If you happen to have a wife (or a demanding girlfriend)... you'll understand that a man cannot sh*t or do anything without following the Wife-O-Meter tactic. Unless you want an earful of blahblahblahblahblahs and yada-yada-yadas.

     

    Nobody wants that.

    Same here... however, the DS was also a factor in getting me interested in games again.

     

    Hotel Dusk provides me that same "Shadowgate-ish" feeling from back in the days. Cool stuff.


  15. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, isn't directly backing Thompson measures, he did however signed legislation to outlaw the sale to teenagers of electronic games featuring reckless mayhem and explicit sexuality.

     

    Hillary Clinton is on the same boat on that. As well as many other politicos.

     

    So it isn't just Jack Thompson... I know many like to paint him as our main nemesis... but to me and many others, he's just a moron with little power or influence.


  16. It's great that they are speaking out more about the crisis in Japan. More and more game developers from Japan are focusing more on Western gamers. Trying to compete with the likes of EA, Rockstar and Ubisoft.

     

    It seems that Nintendo was able to stir things up with the DS and the Brain Age games. Other companies should try a similar approach.
