  1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Except the few bits they showed off of the overworld was identical right down to bush, stone and tree placements as the original. The dungeon being shown has the color scheme of the Tower of Hera and 3DS trailer shows of Moldorm on the exact same room layout as it appears in ALTTP pretty much confirming it to be the same place but even if the rest of the layout has almost nothing in common.
  2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

The thing with ALTTP though is that it has two overworlds. Now do we get to explore them both or not. It could well be that the Lightworld is pretty much the same as before but the Darkworld/GoldenLand if it comes back is completely different. ALTTP was originally supposed to have 3 overworlds so maybe they could use the unused world as the basis for the new alternate world - if they have one of course. The Lightworld as it stands isn't very big really and there isn't much to explore in terms of caves and stuff really so if it all takes place in just that area, they will need to take some creative licencing with the existing world - they could completely redo the woods for example or Zora's Waterfall. Also, that magic meter seemed to go down with even the use of the hammer and then it would automatically charge back up so it seems to act as a stamina bar for all secondary items as well as magic if it returns. As I said in the other thread, the visuals look very much inspired by PH/St as much as they do ALTTP. Look at all them 45 degree angles they could have smoothed out and the fixed height walls... *shudders at memories of PH*. One thing that did puzzle me was for all the talk of making use of the 3D to benefit the vertical height, every time Link stepped on one of them big jumping pads, he was being thrown up to platforms he couldn't even see. I would have thought there would be some indication to show you what was above you even if it was a faded/transparent overlay as you stood on the pad to help... unless it's completely automatic and they are only stair replacements in reality and their slanted position would suggest so. Right now, I'm trying to remain cautiously optimistic that that they a) won't screw this up, and b) won't crap on my childhood, and adulthood (given how often I still play it) memories of ALTTP. Unfortunately, Nintendo have sunk my interest in Zelda to an all time low with their past few entries and WW remake announcement so keeping the faith is proving tricky.
  3. Ah, I see that was in the US one then - certainly don't recall seeing any such statement in ours. Plus, what Nintendo say they will do and what they end up doing don't always align too well in matters that concern the Wii U. Last year's E3 was all about Wii U and they side lined the 3DS off. The main show was a disgrace and the 3DS bit was pointless. At least it can't be any worse this time around and we know they have games to show in more detail that people might actually care about.
  4. Kinda agree there. Not everything looks like it was being designed by a common mindset. Looked suspiciously like the DS Zelda games right down to Link's movement but given the A button prompt to merge with the scenery kept popping up, at least we should have face button control this time.
  5. From this... To this... You sure changed your tune pretty quick. I can't work out if Yoshi looks good or absolutely awful. I think it was because the Yoshi sprite itself looked pretty lanky and whilst they were using the classic sound effects, they sounded completely out of place to me - they sounded wrong for the look of the game.
  6. General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

There is probably something in it and it's not difficult to imagine the biggest contributor to said warping of console ownership figures. But I remember reading one frequently regurgitated statistic from the last gen that had every 1 in 4 PS2 sales as being replacement models for ones that gave up the ghost so it wouldn't be the first time if that number was reliable - was always a bit suspicious of it myself mind. One of the other, more obvious, factors is that it's just been a longer generation that those that came before it and the manufacturers have been pushing their machines for longer than they normally would sales wise. That's not to say that couldn't have been on sale but just that they weren't actively marketing them.
  7. Xbox One Console Discussion

Assuming they go for the subscription model which really does seem to fit inline with all the rumours regarding MS's direction for their machine. No doubt there will still be the option to buy it out right. I think that $500 price point is too high for what's being offered here. By PC standard it's lower middling spec and the if the man on the street can buy hardware of similar performance at retail for the same cost, you have to bet that MS can put it in a box and generate a profit. Kinect is $99 with a game thown in. I suspect that's a pretty tasty makup in terms of build costs and the none motor variety that is Kinect 2.0 should be easier and cheaper to build. The processor is going to be similar to the one used in every entry level notebook/laptop and tablet from AMD for the next 2 years so they will be knocking them out in huge quantities at low prices and DDR3 is super cheap now everyone is using it - whereas GDDR3 in the 360 will rise in price as supply and demand drop off thanks to smaller batches being produced. And the GPU even customized won't be that expensive either. I can see $400 all in on this one (box and Kinect) and MS are possibly taking a small hit depending on negotiations - $450 at an absolute push if they wanted to be profitable from day one guaranteed. I think Sony will go $400 at a slight loss but hardware will be profitable within 12 months. They could bundle in their own camera for $450 and that would be more beneficial for them as their cameras aren't expensive to make really.
  8. General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

I've seen such claims in our very own Wii U General Discussion thread letalone on the wider internet out there. Maybe not in the immediate future but in the long term when it comes to MS and Sony - they've certainly been claimed to have done away with lesser performers in the past when their own performance has been less than spectacular by both their own previous standard and certainly when viewed against Sony. Consoles this generation have been selling better than ever. All three machines have sold more than the best selling entry of the NES and SNES generations despite the increased level of consumer entertainment devices out there. The issue is more about where did the spike of users over and above from the previous generation come from to make it balloon so much. And that is likely to be the casual crowd who don't have any real deep seated interest in gaming enough to keep them coming back generation after generation when they can get experiences that suit them fine on other, cheaper devices they are likely to own anyway. Hardware seems to be selling fine, within reason, but it's software sales relative to development bugets that's the problem but for many studios, they've spent the past 7 years getting used to high end development on machines that the high end next generation won't be the extra burden some would have people believe. Tools have progressed, knowledge has developed and systems have aligned to the point that each dollar spent should be capable of going much further than before as restrictions and bottlenecks are removed. Nintendo now have the joys of going through what everyone else already has and like those that went before them, they are experiencing some issues but the difference is that because the others have done it, they've moved the level of acceptance with them. In the beginning, it was crap or nothing so people accepted crap. Now it's pretty good and so people won't accept less. Customers won't, and shouldn't, let Nintendo off because it is their first attempt. That might be acceptable to those that don't know any different but the amount of them wanting a game machine is a slim market right now. It's difficult to imagine a scenario in which total console sales for the next generation don't go down - the only one I can come up with is Apple and Google pissing off the courts so much that they ban smartphones and tablets from going on sale ever again. But they won't drop off a cliff and should out perform gen 6 which itself did better than all the previous ones.
  9. Pretty much. The redesign for Zero in the Zero series does have him use an actual handgun (still fires lasers though) but X still uses his arm cannon. The idea is that X is special because he can copy powers unlike other robots. If he's just literally prying the gun from their hands, what's stopping any other robot from doing that? And the answer is nothing as Zero does the same thing in MMZ4. And at that point, you're no longer doing what Mega Man does so why does it even have to be Mega Man in the first place? Plus first person jumping tends to be pretty crap and the accuracy required for typical MM level design doesn't leave much room for error. I know they said they had ideas for wall jumping but frankly I'm not convinced. Wall jumping in the Prime games is pretty pathetic and wasn't particularly player friendly in Mirrors Edge either if they were looking there for hints. If anything, instead of seeing these guys to make Mega Man Prime, they'd have been better off going with Team Ninja to make Mega Man: Other X as the third person platforming/shooting gameplay seems a much better fit and it can't be any worse than the horror that was X7. At least the story sounded good though, so they can have a point for that - you play as X over two games who becomes powerful and corrupt and then you must take him down as Zero in the final game of the trilogy.
  10. General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

It kinda chuckles me when I see people write about how Nintendo saw off company X, Y and Z and how they are likely to see off Sony and MS too. The hardware sales tell a completely different story. Nintendo didn't see of the Atari Jaguar and they didn't see off SEGA either. In addition to the above, they sold 100m Wiis, but just compare total system sales to Sony. PS1 - 105 million PS2 - 150 million PS3 - 75 million Sony have sold way more consoles in a substantionally shorter period of time. The PS2 alone outsold the NES, SNES and N64 combined and the idea that they don't belong in the market is absurd. Plus the PS3 is still going strong and who knows where it will finish. People say the Wii won the generation in terms of sales but whilst the Wii has stopped selling, the PS3 and Xbox carry on and come time for them both to bow out, it could well be that both eclipse the Wii's total sales figure. Not really relevant to the current topic per se but seeing the hardware numbers just made me want to mention my thoughts on certain things I see continually trotted out by delusional folk.
  11. Castle of Illusion remake (PSN/XBLA)

I never played the SEGA Mickey Mouse games so whilst Duck Tales has a nostalgia element this lacks, this would provide the more original experience and I am keen to see what the fuss is all about. Whilst we're bleeding the Disney pool dry, I wouldn't mind seeing a redone Magical Quest once Capcom are done with Duck Tales.
  12. Fire Emblem Awakening

Just making a brief stop off in here - not hanging around though just to be safe. I cancelled my pre-order with ShopTo so I could get the artbook from GAME and it's showing as shipped so I should get it before Friday and with the artbook - double win!! Plus, it turns out I had £5 odd worth of reward points so it's actually cost me less than had I ordered from ShopTo - triple win!!! Having waited 12 months for the game and not touched the demo, I've earned this sucker big time. Plus, with only M&L on the horizon as a game I'm geuinely interested in, I'm going to bleed this dry of every ounce of gameplay over the coming months.
  13. The Official Fire Emblem Thread

I see the creator of that image couldn't bring themselves to use the redone Micaiah artwork from Awakening - can't blame them though. Edit: also, as pointed about by someone on GoNintendo, they have some of the dates wrong. Seisen no Keifu didnt come out on the same day as Monshou no Nazo and the Akaneia Saga apparently came out later than stated, although it was still the same month. Beyond those two mishaps, I noticed myself that they used the US date for Shadow Dragon instead of the EU date since we got it in December of the year prior.
  14. Castle of Illusion remake (PSN/XBLA)

Apparently, Grant (GoldenEye, Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Tooie, Viva Piñata) Kirkhope is doing the music for this one.
  15. 3DS Console Discussion

Since I rarely take my 3DS out with me anywhere, let alone then deliberately leave it on in StreetPass mode, I've only completed a handful of the puzzles and still haven't even managed one round of the Quest. I fear I'm forever doomed to have lots of uncompleted puzzles - I don't care about the hats from the other mode but the dioramas are nice to look at.
  16. good stuff thread.

I was using google image search earlier as I was after some game related artwork when amongst all the frequently used pieces, I came across something I hadn't seen before. As a result, I went to the site to see if they had anything else I hadn't seen. After taking a peek around the gallery section, I clicked on the home button to see what else was on offer/what was being talked about and lo and behold the most recent article at the very top of the homepage was post about my YouTube channel with a link to my videos.
  17. Name that Game: 2013 Edition!!

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! Just trying to keep you on your toes And so the scores after this round are as follows... 1. / nando / - 5pts =2. Coolness Bears - 4pts =2. Cube - 4pts =2. Jonnas - 4pts 5. Dog-amoto - 1pt It's getting crowded at the top but it's still early days yet. Thank you all for playing and I'll see you next round.
  18. Name that Game: 2013 Edition!!

It is not Tales of Vesperia.
  19. Name that Game: 2013 Edition!!

Time for a clue on number 9. Since you're already on the right track with the guessing, I'll leave it at this: 2 down, 12 more to go at...
  20. Name that Game: 2013 Edition!!

Jonnas made two commendable guesses for the games but he had the numbers the wrong way round. I said he was wrong but on the right track assuming he would get the numbers the right way round for his next guess - both games were wrong anyway. You were in there like a shot with the right game but you had the wrong number. Had he got the right games, he wouldn't have got the points for them either without the right numbers.
  21. Name that Game: 2013 Edition!!

It is not Tales of Xillia.
  22. Name that Game: 2013 Edition!!

Yes, 3, that's number three people, was indeed Deus Ex - if it looks a little funky, it's because I used the colorful PS2 version over the grey PC version. 9 is not Tales of Graces F. I noticed your mistake first of all but since they were the wrong games, I thought I'd give you the benefit of the doubt that your next guess would be with the correct numbers but then Bob piled in without checking and you responded just as hastily to his guess as he did yours. 9 is now the only one left and it's neither Invisible War or Xenosaga if that helps matters.
  23. Name that Game: 2013 Edition!!

Does 3 look like it was taken from a cel-shaded game? Look at the picture and the numbers people!
  24. Name that Game: 2013 Edition!!

Guesses the guy who clearly hasn't played Deus Ex 1 if he thinks it's 9...
  25. Name that Game: 2013 Edition!!

Both wrong but you're on the right track with your guessing...
