So what's everyone's 2017 purchase line-up looking like after E3? Mine is pretty hefty

Is anyone else extremely concerned about the Virtual Console situation?I previously stated that the Switch has the potential to be my favourite ever console, but obviously that is dependent on the games that will arrive over the next few years, including a vast library of Virtual Console classics. Without the latter, it's going to be such a disappointment
I'm sure we will get plenty of old titles on the Switch in the future but if it's locked behind some sort of subscription, like how 'free' PS+ games require an active subscription, then that would be a bitter pill to swallow.
I, like I'm sure many others, am ready to invest lots of money in building a huge collection of quality, portable SNES and N64 titles to accompany Switch software and it'll be heartbreaking if it can't be done!
I have no doubt it's coming.
However, Virtual Console is a bit akin to Metroid in that it's a thing that people continually clamour for but don't actually sell that well.

I was lulled into a false sense of security by the testpunch. I'm getting my arse kicked

We've actually seen seven worlds already.- Metro Kingdom
- Sand Kingdom
- Wooded Kingdom
- Colourful polygonal
and then from the latest trailer:
- The spooky monochrome world
- Dinosaur world
- Only seen briefly, but the underwater level where you're a Cheep Cheep looks new
Kingdoms are like Worlds, but I believe there are multiple levels in each Kingdom

A new form got revealed this week for this game
-
I take it nobody else liked the look of this, then? Here's the fact sheet for the game.
The genre is hilarious.
I was hoping they were going to drop this on the eShop straight away. Bit gutted it's a 2018 game.
It's the most Japanese thing I have seen in a while haha

Treehouse shows off port of Pokken with new characters.Proceeds to use nothing but the Pokemon in the original version...
EDIT: Had a good laugh when they asked "Why should People buy the Switch version if they have the WiiU?" and the other guy replied with "Well, two people can play on the same screen"
There's the WiiU version.
Oh, right, that makes all the difference.
Here's what he means
On Wii U, you couldn't do this. One person had to use GamePad screen, the other had to use the TV

A gorgeous 2D game can be refreshing once in a while. But it's hardly anything that gets a wide audience hyped. It never holds a candle to Star Wars Battlefront, Fallout, Final Fantasy or Gran Turismo. The console-selling potential of these games is nigh-on zero. And my "logical jump" is hardly surreal.
Let's look at the new Switch announcements this E3.
Kirby
Yoshi
Metroid Prime 4
Pokémon.
The two latter are so far into the future that there's not even a proper teaser for them. So... yeah, this is something they're making to fill what's likely to be a massive gap in the 2018 lineup. A hole Nintendo were probably expecting third parties would fill.
No chance in hell that two 2D games at the same E3 is a coincidence. And Nintendo know that these games have zero potential to be system sellers. They're very obviously damage control, because they didn't have anything else that could be churned out fast enough.
Sorry, but a reveal of any long-dormant 3D franchise would've done more for the Switch than these two games put together.
You're assuming way too much. Nintendo, for the most part, are keeping their cards closer to their chest these days.
They also didn't create these games to hide a hole in the line-up. Just because they're not for you doesn't mean they shouldn't exist.
-
The SE of the game has been detailed on the Nintendo UK site. You still can't preorder it yet though.Sounds fantastic!
Sold.
So glad I refrained buying Metroid 2 on VC now
-
Looks OK.Just how that this isn't an indication that Nintendo are reverting to their old ways and start churning out cheap 2D filler to be able to deny the presence of droughts.
Am definitely not getting it, however.
It makes me so sad that you consider 2D to be filler.
The logical jump you've made here is just surreal.
-
Since Pokémon is coming to Switch and Pokkén is on Switch in 3 months...
A necessity for the site
-
Yeah there appears to be a game most years due to the remakes of the older games. Serebii's list seems to list the generational jumps so to speak.Nope. It's the year off. Not the generational jump
-
Just wanna say that I absolutely love Treehouse Live. Best thing they've done with E3 over the last decade for sure! This E3 has been pretty freaking rad so far! Some great announcements and everything they've shown looks great (even Mario Rabbids looks good!)
Still, where the hell are Retro!? What the hell is going on with them!?
Agreed. This has been Nintendo's best E3 in so many years.
-
2019? Don't they release them every year? Definitely 2018!No they don't
Every generation has a year off
Generation 1: 1997
Generation 2: 2001
Generation 3: 2003 & 2005
Generation 4: 2007
Generation 5: 2011
Generation 6: 2015
This would be the start of a new generation and we're back to 3 year gens and so 2018 will likely be a year off
-
Autumn 2018 seems likely.I think launching a new gen game is much smarter than a Stars type re-release job they could have maybe done this year.
I agree
However, generations haven't been shorter than three years and haven't left out a year off.
2019 is likely
-
Oh no I missed both of those by not watching the stream! The Metroid amiibo can be squished
-
They should've made it for both. Or scrapped the Kirby game and remade Super Metroid for the Switch and make this for the 3DS.In genereal, I think it's a crying shame Nintendo don't seem to want to port more of their 3DS games for the Switch.
Would LOVE to buy HD versions of the N64 ports.
Just imagine a single pack containing OoT, MM and SF64 with the enhanced 3DS graphics, in HD and with a few tasty shaders thrown on for good measure
The Kirby game is by a completely different developer. Its existence is irrelevant to it. Just because you don't like Kirby doesn't mean it shouldn't exist.
Incidentally, Kirby games typically outsell Metroid games, so if anything this should be cancelled for another Kirby game.
-
Fall 2018 at the earliest,Gives @Serebii time to recover from the shock that wayAutumn 2019 is my bet.
And what shock? I've been expecting this since the Switch was revealed.
-
Why is this exclusively on the 3DS?Seriously, cancel the Kirby game, then have them port this for the Switch. And announce that Nintendo have officially filled their quota of 2D and minigame compilations for this gen... or at least the rest of the decade.
Because they didn't know the Switch would succeed so had to shore up the 3DS to keep it going in case the Switch bombed.
It's simple.
