  1. College/University Exams

its strange that english don't have much of an advantage then, considering i was reading books 3 years before you. I guess that your later education is better than ours, and you catch up.
  2. The 2006 GCSE Thread

From my perspective, £15 isn't too bad. Most balls i've been too/seen advertised are about £30 (with meal). The prices can also go up alot more that. I'm not someone with a lot of money (i'm a student...) but i'm just trying to say that £15 isn't too bad at all as balls go. When you consider this is a "once only" event, i think it would probably be worth it. People will leave your school, and two years time alot will have changed. Its up to you i guess. I'm guessing you buy a fair few games, considering you on this forum. Its not expensive compared to those.
  3. The 2006 GCSE Thread

You say that like its expensive. Go on, you only have one "Prom" (or summer ball). You'll never get the chance again. £15 is very cheap as most balls go, so i would if i were you.
  4. College/University Exams

i have read a bit about the finnish education system, it sounds very different though it does produce good results. See, i was at school, properly (as in 9-3 5 days a week) since i was 4 years old. This is quite common in england, we start school so early i barely have any memories that were before school. I can't imagine being at home till seven years old... it would seem weird. Do you learn to read before you go to school?
  5. College/University Exams

In england. Compulsory: "Primary school" 7 Years ages 4-11 "Secondary School" 5 years ages 11-16 Optional: "Sixth form, or College" 2 years ages 16-18 Then University 3+ years ages 18-21+ I'm currently in my first year at uni, 4 year course. When i'm finished i will have been in full time education for 18 years... but its fun! I have maths, thermodynamics, geotechnics, fluid dynamics, geology, properties of materials, structural engineering. ahhhh!
  6. The 2006 GCSE Thread

No.... i had AQA Biology 2003.. Gosh that makes me feel old! It was the first year they put the core material and the higher material in one mammoth 2hr30mins exam paper. Instead of two seperate exams.Usually triple science has an extension paper. It was hard because there were 20 or so pages and just endless writing and i could not finish in time. I'm currently at the University of Bristol, first year. I advise all of you gcse guys to do the best you can. Your results DO matter, but as long as you do your best you can be proud. Good luck. *obvious tip* do loads of exam papers, and them do'em again and again to a time limit. i found that the most effective technique.
  7. The 2006 GCSE Thread

Most difficult exam was either biology or maths. But this depends on every person. I also found french hard, because i've never been much of a language person.
  8. Maths help (sats)

Actually, they changed P1-3 to C1-C4. This means you do 2 applied modules instead of 3 in the old a-level. I was the first year to do it... and it worked out well. The only difference is that C1 is a non-calc paper (harder or easier depending on perspective) and there is a bit more variety with the integration.. As in you get tested more on a smaller bit of syllabus so you get tested on more of what you (should) have learnt.
  9. Woman dead in apartment for 2 years

gosh, thats quite horrendous. The tv was still going... its like time stood still.
  10. Things you have always wondered

When you have an erection the tube to the bladder (uretha?) gets closed by the expansion of blood. It pushes on it making peeing almost impossible. I think if you were absolutely bursting for a piss but had a hard on, nature would find a way. Also, if your in a coma for 20 years and don't excrete, then surely what was left of your last meal, would basically rot away? could be really disgusting.
  11. Universities Universities...

warwick is a really good uni I would go to sussex over roehampton, i live in the area when i'm at home and its pretty nice area. Brighton has lots to do. and is quite compact. No idea about roehampton, i don't think its that highly rated. if your gonna go to a london uni then you are best off at IC, LSE, KCL, UCL, etc
  12. Plastic Surgery

i'd never let my todger go under the knife, its just... ow.

  14. So am i. I don't actually know much about the situation, but as far as i'm concerned as long as our old weapons still work (and why shouldn't they?) then we have no need for any more. Heck, there is no point in nuclear weapons. We don't want to use them do we? all we need is just a couple so that we have an ultimate threat, theres no need to have more than the next country, or better ones.
  15. I have a confession to make!

I've had some really nasty JD and cokes, but i blame the coke. I prefer to have it straight now tbh. Southern Comfort is much better than JD imo.
  16. i have no more grandparents left

i'm lucky to have 3 out of 4. My grandad on my dads side died before i was born from a heart attack and was only in his 50's.
  17. How long do you stay online a day

binge drinking perhaps, and then only when it goes too far. Sitting alone behind a computer however is the definition of anti-social, so i think fieldsofanfieldroad has a point.
  18. dreamcast online

i wonder if its possible/has been made for a program to run on your pc to host dreamcast games. Because it would be cool to play some dc games online again. I don't really play mine much, but it was an awesome console.
  19. the ends probably the best bit. "this is the worst day of my life". I'm dubious whether this is real though, whats the point in videoing yourself crying?
  20. Politically Correct?

political correctness is a load of rubbish, i try to make an effort not to go along with it. For example, black people are black. You could call them ethnic minorities but thats less precise. I don't mind being called white, i don't see why there is anything wrong with being called black. its an accurate description of your color. The xmas thing is also a load of rubbish, the whole thing is about religion and tradition so therefore i will allways call it christmas.
  21. I'll Have A...

My favourite too. After that i'm quite fond of cider at the moment, any will do.
  22. Rate your meal revived!

Breakfast: Bagel, bacon and tomato. Lack of egg gives this breakfast 6/10 Lunch: 2 sausage rolls Nice, cheap, if a little unhealthy 6/10 Dinner: 1 sausage roll, 1 cheese and onion pasty, 1 cookie, 1 packet of prawn cocktail crisps, 1 carton of ribena, 1 apple. 4/10
  23. The School Thread!

I'm not at school! But when i was.... favourite subjects were physics and geography. Least favoruite would be french and i.c.t (repetitive, menial tasks)
  24. What is your ethnic background?

english on both sides as far back as i know off. (at least 4 generations) but considering my name i think a few of my ancestors were welsh. Theres also probably a little bit of irish in there too, 4 generations back, there are alot of ancestors! its amazing really, 2*2*2*2 = 16 go back a little further and theres probably enough ancestors to mean that i come from loads of places.
  25. British humour or American humour?

British comedy i definiately like more. The likes of Little Britian, The Office, Mighty Boosh are my current favourites. Theres alot of variety there, something america seems to have less of. Their humour is sorta generic (but sometimes extremely good) but it kinda hits from the same angle. Whereas the office is quite unique and so is the mighty boosh. Older comedies i love like Fawlty Towers, Dads Army, Monty Python, Blackadder, etc. My favourite american comedy is stuff like the Simpson's or Family guy. I also like freinds, its good. but i prefer british comedy.
