  1.

Looks like this game focuses just on Mushroom Kingdom characters this time (just like Paper Mario Sticker Star). Didn't see a single non-Mario character, but on the other hand... KOOPALINGS ARE IN!!! :D

Shame, but I'll give it a pass....

I've always thought the strength of these series came from exploring new and crazy worlds like in The Thousand Year Door and Superstar Saga.

Rogueport and its world along with the Bean Bean Kingdom are still some of my favourite worlds I have had the pleasure of exploring.

We know the Mushroom Kingdom like the back of our hands since we get to enjoy that world in most mainline Mario games...

Why not use that creative freedom to explore something other than the Mushroom Kingdom again for a change....I loved the quirky dimensions in Super Paper Mario as well, very creative indeed.

  2. I got into the NINTENDO magic a bit late with buying a Cube in its final year.

Though the Cube has 2 of my most cherised games of all time (Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Door & The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker) and had me experience buying an actual Zelda game for the first time, for my own console and getting ridiculously immersed in its world, ..... I had to vote Wii.

    A console that houses:

and Super Smash Bros. Brawl hasn't been topped yet in my list.

I wonder if I'll ever come across a game that will have a more special place in my heart than Little King's Story.

  3. So I haven't been active for a while now, but I just wanted to let me ol' chaps down at the Nyurp Pub know that I just came back from this evening of eargasms.

I had already been to the first world tour in Paris a few years ago, so I was wondering what new pieces they would stick in there and given the fact that A Link Between Worlds and Majora's Mask 3D had come out since then, I had high hopes we'd get some orchestrated pieces based on the tracks of those games as well.

Once again, the orchestra did not dissapoint, and when all was said and done they gave us 3 or 4 encores with music that I'd thought this orchestra wouldn't touch.

Stuff like an orchestrated version of Dragon Roost Island or the Deku Palace in Majora's Mask.

It left me with good hopes for the future in which they might include even more experimental pieces into the line-up.

There was only little focus on A Link Between Worlds, and a little nod to Tri-Force Heroes in the beginning. Most of the show I had heard before in Paris and on the CD, but they still felt new and updated in a way with a lot of gravitas to them.

Especially the Twilight Princess section, that game really lends itself to an orchestrated score.

One of my favourite moments has always been during the A Link to the Past section where Link enters the dark world in the game which can be seen behind the orchestra. Then the orchestra slowly starts to build up that Dark World theme and at its climax, the conductor commands everyone to silence and then ..... TA-DAAAAAA, TA-DUM DUM TA-DA-DAAAAAA THE DARK WORLD THEME! Classic!

A great crowd-pleasing moment is also when the conductor pulls out the Wind Waker to conduct her musicians.

    --------------------

My gaming adventures are slowly heading towards the bare minimum, and I've gotten to the point where I have a hard time playing a game by myself on a home console.

I'm working my way through A Link Between Worlds currently and luckily it is captivating me mightily and has affirmed what I had already thought: If it is so that I play less and less games, then at least try and stay up-to-date with the Zelda franchise for it has an godly charm to it which spans 2 decades and holds a special place in my heart.

So that is what I will try.

Because BY GOD do I love me some Legend of Zelda.

  4. Interesting insights.

I really try to think about a few months down the line if I were to get back with my ex and how that would feel knowing that she had been with my former friend for more than half a year which still makes me feel sick to my stomach somewhat.

I think it's some kind of nostalgic reason I still long for her in a way and the fact that I want to prove that I can treat her the way she wanted and I wanted too...

A part of me thinks I might never get over her because I don't have the feeling that we tried everything and failed.

We broke up mainly because both of us were immature, made mistakes and were unable to communicate our feelings properly to each other. Now I've come to see things different through being with others and having broadened my horizons, so I think I just feel I want to show this to her.

As for now, I just want to cut her out of my life and never see her again, because I am afraid I might fall for her again even if we would meet to just see how things are going as friends...

But as a great friend I miss her also and I haven't met anyone yet who has her particular kind of personality.

  5. I haven't played one in a few years but I always remember enjoying the worlds of Paper Mario, the first two. The story was always pretty funny and the world fleshed out with lots of lovely, humorous characters. Mario games can have good stories, just, not the main ones.

Yeah, it's ironic that a NINTENDO (Intelligent Systems) Game with one of the most intricate stories and story lines is a Mario game. Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door to be exact.

I mean, they dabbled in the whole A.I. and Human relationship before the movie Her ever did.

Super Paper Mario also has a very poetic love story going on.

  6. Watching the Game Center CX special again was a weird moment.

Having so much fun and laughing with a man who is no longer among us.

What a fun guy to play a game with.

I wonder if someone will kickstart a documentary about him or if Nintendo might take it upon themselves to create a more profound memorial clip about him.

  7. I also find it quite ironic that today's casual gamer most likely is into Fifa, COD, Battlefield, GTA, Assassin's Creed or some big AAA series on either the XboX or Playstation.

It would seem that both Microsoft and Sony have gained more casuals in the long run than Nintendo ever did with the Wii which was their hope.

Whether or not it's a good thing that casuals crave realism in their games with high-end graphics is debatable...

  8. Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising (Nintendo, Nintendo, GBA VC) - €6.99/£6.29

The Black Hole Army is back in this storming sequel to the acclaimed strategy game. Enemy CO Sturm is leading a new invasion force, and it’ll take the combined might of all armies to stop him. Play as several COs from across the world, each with their own unique abilities and CO Powers that can turn the tide of battle. Advance Wars 2 also features new army units like the destructive Neotank, and missile silos for long-range warfare. Plus there is also a map designer for you to create your own battlegrounds, so let your imagination run wild!

Working towards that new Advance Wars release, I see...

Fantastic tribute by Gamespot of all places. The end really resonated with me and how Nintendo is in general.

God damn, this man loved games, and wanted to share that love with so many people.

I admire him for at least trying to invent new ways of play and get more people huddled around the television and sharing laughs together.

Even though people might now have reverted back to their own personal screens (iPads, Smartphones), perhaps some people have come to love gaming through the Wii and are now gaming on the 3DSs, their PS4s or on their PCs with steam.

I distinctly remember Iwata referencing the book by Sherry Turkle called 'Alone Together' and his worries about people becoming alienated from one another through their own personal devices.

I still hope though that Nintendo will start to see the value more of online gaming and will understand that this has the power to build friendships all over the world and break cultural barriers.

MiiVerse is a great step in the right direction even though I barely use it

It's just a bit too vast for me and easy to get lost in. I like coming back to N-Europe, drink a nice brandy and discuss m' vidyagamez.

Just got this message from the centre where I go to meditate from time to time.

    19030_1175519692474726_258924800448065412_n.png?oh=4369322a588b6d2d545088c3e23685f1&oe=5658F069

Iwata has reminded me of this once again.

  10. Wow, that guy in the video loves to stroke his own ego, haha.

Yeah, Nintendo is definitely in trouble when it comes to mass-appeal, acknowledgement by gamers, and their 3rd party relationships.

If it starts going down hill badly, what I see happening is them starting to focus more and more on Japan.

One really good step for them would be to somehow merge their handheld and console business so that both devices could play both handheld and console games. This would help them release games at a more steady pace.

Other than that, ... they might have to settle for a friendly, Nintendo-exclusive 2nd-console-next-to-your-Playstation-or-Xbox kind of deal.

What I hate though is people who are so identified with gaming that they start making you feel ridiculous for owning Nintendo consoles and playing Nintendo games/games on a Nintendo console. It's a bloody hobby and just because Nintendo consoles aren't the bleedin' edge tech/online wise doesn't mean they don't have fun games to play.

This is the image problem Nintendo has, unfortunately, and I have a hard time believing that if they were to partner up with Sony more people will pick up their games. Try selling Yoshi's Yarn, Splatoon or Pikmin 3 to the kids wanting to be a bad-ass by playing GTAV, Batman or any of the other ultra-realistic and serious games.

Nintendo should team up with Valve and the Indies, that would be a treat.

  11. I spoke to my friend who is in Kyoto right now and he said that a Typhoon will be hitting Kyoto tomorrow (Japan's today) on the day of Iwata's funeral.

I hope the ceremony will still go according to plan.

  12. Last night it occurred to me we'll now never get to see Iwata announce a new F-Zero or Advance Wars or talk about the upcoming Zelda...

I was looking forward to his shenanigans if he were to ever promote a new F-Zero.
