Finished Yoku's Island Express just now.

What a lovely little game. If someone told 10 year old me that I'm going to play a pinball-metroidvania game when I'm a grown man I would've not believed him. It is a pretty neat genre combination I have to admit.

It's not a difficult game, it's actually really easy but it was enjoyable. Getting around the island in order to acquire enough fruit to advance was a little cumbersome at times but overall it's a great game.

Not sure when/if I'm going to mop up the remaining trophies, though. I've had my fill of this game for now.

Indeed, this was a pleasant surprise when I played it earlier in the year. Definitely one of my picks for 2018.

  2. This seems really fun so far, only played in 2 tournaments though. Had some great rallies.  In my first tournament I got matched with a Rosalina with over 3000 points and they absolutely destroyed me. The curve with her shots is insane! Hoping it's a matchmaking issue they can work on. The odd game has gotten laggy mid game also which is not good, it got to a point where prior to accepting a match if the bars were below 3 or 4 i'd back out and search again (but at least we have that as an option).

Won the second tournament with Waluigi who seemed to gel with my playstyle and allowed me to push the opponent back. It was quite hilarious how distracting Toad is in the final with all the commentary spam!

Not sure if i'll buy it straight away or not, too many games in the backlog but I'll see how I feel!

It's time to leave the internet, spoilers are getting leaked...

Yep, one of the youtube recommendations to me this evening was a video claiming to be the final boss and ending! Pretty much tempted to go dark on most gaming sites until next weekend.

  4. Yeah agreed, I don't think I could play it on my own with randoms. You really need to be in a group of minimum 3-4 to make a real difference and be able to organize when to run in, timing your ultimates and to communicate effectively. However, when you do group up it's an extremely enjoyable multiplayer experience. There's a double XP weekend we should take advantage of from now till the 12th so last chance for anniversary loot boxes!

  5. First time really playing Splatoon this weekend and I ended up taking part in 4 of the test fires as it was so enjoyable. Mostly played with the pro controller which was very comfortable. Interestingly I preferred the gyro controls over using the right stick for aiming vertically. I imagine gyro in handheld mode would be more difficult though in comparison. I did try the joy con grip (half because my pro controller finally ran out of battery from its initial charge ) and even though it was servicable I could feel my hands cramping up.

I am now very much keen on picking this up, hopefully there's a good deal for eshop credit sometime. In the short term though I'm going to load the first games soundtrack on to my iPod.

  6. 10 years ago was my last Nintendo hardware purchase so this is a pretty momentus day for me! I didn't have a pre order and I just couldn't stop thinking about Zelda after all the reviews. I managed to snag a reservation at Argos this morning whilst on the train just before they enforced paying for it immediately online. Picked it up just before leaving for home this evening and will be digging into it tonight!

  7. I went to the London event today with a friend - managed to play 5-10 minutes each of Snipperclips, Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon 2, ARMS (surprised how fun this is), three 1-2 Switch minigames (Milking, Guess the balls and the quick draw one).

I came away feeling positive from all of them really and definitely have a much better impression of the Switch now. The Pro controller feels good but I don't believe its justifying the higher asking cost than the Dualshock / Xbox controller whilst the joycons attached to the grip do feel a little narrow. However these are pretty small negatives given how nice the tablet is particularly the screen and how fun the games are. It was good trying the different control methods as well as how easy it is to dock and undock the tablet.

It was a really well organied event by Nintendo being able to get some bitesize experience ahead of next weeks launch. I'm definitely going to get one for Mario in the holiday but if there's a good deal sooner I'll pick one up sooner.

  8. Got Thursday/Friday booked off so should be able to pre order online or instore on Friday morning. I do not want another NES Classic situation even though I lucked out big time finding one for a gift before Xmas without a pre order.

Having skipped on the WiiU and 3DS I'm very much looking forward to playing Ninty games again

  9. Managed to get FIFA 16 and £8 left over in Amazon vouchers for £40. Small hoop to go through but to get the game for £32 is decent.

(Using the instructions off MoneySavingExpert) You first have to check whether you are eligible for a £10 voucher for buying a £40 gift card by logging in then clicking on this link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/browse.html?node=6969867031&ref=gc_sepb40g10_assoc?tag=moneysavingex-21. If you see in orange "Buy £40 in any Amazon.co.uk Gift Cards of your choice, Get a £10 promo code to spend at Amazon.co.uk" then it means you should be eligible. If so, click the orange button to click to qualify for the promotional code then buy a gift card to email for £40. Apply the gift card to your own account then 24 hours later you will receive a promotional £10 code which you have to apply at checkout. Currently FIFA 16 is £42 so the code brings it down to £32 :)

    Hope this helps someone!

  10. So, not playing FIFA has provided an oppertunity to finish other games and revisit older ones. Having said that, there is most definitely a desire to return to Pro Clubs but that is still a 2.5 - 3 weeks away.

Over the last month or so I got the platinum on Rocket League as well as the trophies for the DLC. There was a spell where I was thoroughly enjoying 1 vs 1 but towards the end of waiting on the 500km trophy to pop I was settling for 3 v 3. Hoping for more DLC pretty soon to give me an excuse to return to it. I did my evil run for Infamous: Second Run and at the same time wrapping up the other trophies for the platinum. In the PS3 games what stood out choosing evil was the difference in missions compared to good as well as generally causing havoc on the streets of New Marais. I did not get that same feeling with Second Son. Most recently I finished Grow Home which provided a welcome change of pace to the other titles I've been playing. I ended up going for 100% and for anyone struggling to find all the crystals I recommend checking the in game uPlay Store.

Currently I am kind of just waiting on FIFA 16 now to get going on Pro Clubs but I am hoping that there'll be a decent deal for ~£35. I have restarted Last of Us on New Game Plus however knowing that Uncharted Collection is out in a month it hasn't quite grabbed me again like I had hoped it would. I may park it and give The Order another go until then.
