  1. You mean as in how long it takes to kill other players? If so, I'm gonna have to disagree, I love it, it definitely makes it even more oldskool!

Oh, and FYI to all, there's an open beta next weekend! It runs from 15th - 18th and is open to all. I'll definitely be downloading it again for one final quick blast before it's launch!

  2. So, I've played the beta a lot this weekend, and.... it's really not what I expected. However, I adjusted to it, and it's a ton of fun!

The thing is, it really feels a lot more like a Quake game, although iD also created Quake, so that's not really a surprise. It's fast-paced oldskool action, with health, armor and powerups dotted around the level. The level designs are quite nice too, with lots of routes to get flanked from, and items seem to be well placed. Oh, and the weapons are very nice too, I love the Plasma Rifle!

However, for some reason there's an unlock/level up system, in which you create loadouts, similar to CoD. Fortunately, pretty much all the weapons are available from the get-go, and leveling up seems pretty fast (I was level 15 within 2 hours, which was the beta level cap.) Only two of the weapons were locked at certain levels, and the unlocks mainly appear to be cosmetic, although it seems there's some "equipment" that can also be unlocked too (special types of grenade, etc.) Also, in each loadout, you're limited to two weapons. This doesn't ruin the game by any means, it just seems like an odd choice in an arena style frag-fest.

Oh, and pretty much everything can be customised. The look of your character, your taunts, and even your guns can be edited. Again, these are unlocked as you go along, but there's plenty to keep you going. I made my Doom Marine look pretty badass!

And playing as the Demon. It's so fucking AWESOME!!!! Only the Revenant was available in the beta, and it was extremely overpowered in terms of firepower, but it's an event, and a joy to play as! Mind you, if the enemy team is co-ordinated enough, you can still be taken down pretty quickly.

Overall, after getting used to it, it's a massive amount of fun, and it seemed nicely balanced. However, for me, the real part that's enticing me is the campaign. That said, after trying the beta, I'm definitely a lot more interested in the multiplayer aspect than I was before!

  3. So,the multiplayer beta is today for those who pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order. I'm one of those peeps... and I've received no code, or confirmation. I'm downloading the beta anyway as we speak. Should it just work, or should I have had an e-mail through confirming my participation? :/

EDIT: Never mind... got the e-mail through, now my interwebs needs to hurry the fuck up and download this!!!

  4. Prices don't seem to have gone up by much though. Considering how much you get, an increase of £5 for the super pass is still pretty good value, in my opinion. Needless to say, I picked up some super passes as soon as they went on sale. Really looking forward to it!

As for the issues last year, they're really listening to feedback by the sounds of things. From what I've been hearing, they're going to be selling less day tickets for the Saturday and Sunday, as well as increasing the floor space. Oh, and the closing times are later now too. Hopefully this makes it much easier, in terms of queuing, and means less claustrophobic crowd moments.

  5. So the release date has been revealed as 13th May... WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS?!!!! Seriously, it looks fucking AWESOME!!!!

    HNNNNNGGGGGGG!!!!!

Also, here's a shiny pic of the collector's edition (which will cost £99.)

  6. I've only got a top 5 games list this year, as I haven't really played enough games. I'm a bit gutted I missed out on so many this year. Still, I loved what I played! Here's part 1 of my list:

And part 2 (which is basically a massive write-up on my no.1 choice...)

  7. Couldn't agree more, why bother breaking the game? It's not how it was meant to be experienced, so all you'd be doing is spoiling it.

On a random side-note, I've just got the second rank of Local Leader, so I can build stores. However, I'm having issues with it, in the sense that I'm not entirely sure who to assign to them. Can companions be assigned to the stores, or is it just settlers? It doesn't seem to work for me 100%... :wtf:

  8. Just a quick question... is it possible to join a faction, do a few quests with them, then bugger off and work with another one for a bit? I kinda want to do as much as possible in this playthrough...

  9. I can't believe what happened in Paris, the complete disregard for human life is absolutely disgusting. Atrocities like this should not happen in this day and age. My thoughts are with all those affected by these attacks.

On a related note, there's a campaign to get Eagles of Death Metal - Save a Prayer (a cover of the Duran Duran song) to number 1, and it's been confirmed that all proceeds will be donated to help those in Paris. I think it's a fantastic idea, and would make a strong statement. https://www.facebook.com/eodmforno1/timeline

  10.

This is perfect as far as a title sequence goes, the reason? It's only 6 seconds long.

Personally I am not a fan of tv show title sequences, I think they're usually too long and a waste of time. I will skip them 99% of the time!

Such a superb show! I love the title cards in it too, and how they reflect the main story-arcs for each season. My absolute favourite ones have to be seasons 8 and 9, because, visually, they're quite spectacular:

  11. I'm a a good few hours into the game now, and I'm really enjoying myself!

It's weird not having any skills to level up, but the perk system is definitely much better. It actually feels like each perk genuinely has an impact on your character, and how the game is played. I'm not 100% sure on the conversation system, but I'm warming to it. I'm a bit gutted that the protagonists voice can't be changed, although it would be a lot of work to implement that, so I can see why that wasn't in the game.

Thank god that weapon/equipment degradation is gone too, that really used to piss me off. Considering how intricate, and vast, the customisation is in Fallout 4, I can see why they took it out; spending an age upgrading a weapon, only for it to break on you after a few shots, would be infuriating.

Overall, it's definitely meeting my expectations (which were insanely high) in some areas, and exceeding them in others. :)

From what's been said, there is no level cap, so you can select perks to your heart's content. It's even possible to level up your S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats, if you wish. That said, it would take an age to actually get everything, and some perks aren't worth it, unless you're going for a specific build.

The 'perks' system is laid out differently but ultimately the same. Only thing is I don't know how many levels you have, so I don't know how to manage this side of things.

  12. Did see @CoolFunkMan as well around.

You did? Damn, sorry I missed you, but it was such a busy weekend!

I had a blast though, and it was a great first EGX. Checked out a ton of awesome stuff, but the queues for the triple-A games were ridiculous! Definitely need to do more days next time, so that I can check out everything. I missed out on Mirror's Edge and Tomb Raider, which I'm pretty gutted about.

I'm having trouble gathering my thoughts right now, but I'm definitely going to be putting my thoughts on my blog soon...

  13. Ooo, nice. I also put my name down for a potential HTC VR slot on Sunday, have to wait to hear about that one. Probably run into you over the weekend, i'm very much looking forward to going.

Apparantly, the Playstation VR slots ran out within an hour.

I didn't know times slots needed to be booked for the HTC VR booth too, I'll get on that ASAP, although I wouldn't be surprised if it's already fully booked. Not surprised about the PS VR being fully booked, I imagined it would be pretty popular.

    Hopefully see you there! :)

  14. So Unreal Tournament is making its return as a free-to-play shooter on PC, and the game is about to enter what Epic is calling Pre-Alpha Season. Here's a trailer:

I'm loving how this is looking, it looks like it has the classic old-school UT style that the series has been missing for years! It's in the very early stages at the moment, but it's nice to be able to play it now, and help the developers with the creative process along the way.
