  1. I've got a degree and therefore win, and in case anyone attempts to equal my degree, it has been endowed with First Class honours. And I'll have an even better thing soon ... hopefully. Everyone I went to school with is working now though and earns more money than me. (I earn nothing.)

  2. I can see where Meik is coming from and to some extent I agree. I'm for a ban in public places like shopping centres, the high street, workplaces and bus stops, but I think that owners of pubs, restaurants and so on should have the choice. It's their establishmant and it's a legal habit.

But then a pub is a workplace too, so now I'm not so sure.

I think in a few years time we'll look back at this time and be amazed and shocked that smoking was so prevalent in public places, just like we now look back at the time when smoking was allowed in cinemas, on planes and so on as Jack mentioned.

  3. I failed my test twice when I was 17 (1995) then took it up again earlier this year and passed first time (third overall). It is a pain not being able to drive and passing my test has made life considerably easier. I don't like driving but it's a good thing to have passed your test. If you leave it you may regret it, as I did. It was so much more expensive this time around, especially as my parents were paying when I was 17.

  4. Am I the only one who finds radiohead pretentiously boring? Yeah, OK computer was good, but besides that, they seem to have produced average drivel devoid of imaginaton, but rather, stacked with a unique albeit bad flavour that they hope will carry them away. That's how I feel anyway.

First album okay, second great, and third amazing, then drivel.

I find that bands do that all the time, start out great and then just sink into stuff that I don't like. *curses Pearl Jam's recent offering*

  5. You need to format it.

Control Panel > Adminerstartive tools > Computer Management > Disk Management > and then from there you can format/create a partition. It will take you to a wizard (i think - from memory) and then your new HDD should show up.

Let me know how it goes.

Oooh, good spot. Could've saved me some hassle if I'd known that last week.

  6. Can anyone provide a series of links that go to the parts, or equivalent to those, mentioned above that would mean I could build the above comp for less than £645 factoring in V.A.T.? Cases, wires, leads, everything has to be listed.

Half the price if you build it yourself? Prove it people.

  7. Use DVDFAb decrypter, the free version and it'll rip the disc to your hard drive. You can then use DVD Shrink to resize it to a single layer DVD if you want. Use Nero to burn resultant files to a dvd disc. make sure you get the right iso mode or use a wizrd to guide you. No need to recode the video files either.

  8. Read through the rest of the thread, i'm sure the answer is in here. :hmm:

    Nope, an ongoing problem.

But Roadie, sometimes when I do that if I kill my browser and then open a new one later and come back, marked read threads/boards are no longer marked read and appear to have new posts, when they don't.

  9. The RAM can independant of the fsb speed, fixed by different ratios, etc.

If the current ram is running at PC2700, buy some PC2700. It's not expensive and they will notice a MASSIVE difference. 128MB is nowhere near enough for any modern PC to run properly, especially with graphics eating the RAM too.

Cool, independence is what I needed to know, cheers.

I can't begin to explain how badly it runs, whenever we go up there I end up tearing my hair out. Opening anything takes forever.

My dad's comp is similar but with 256MB and a slightly slower processor and XP runs loads smoother on his.

  10. I was up at the in-laws over the weekend and having to use their computer is a bit of a pain as, I think, there is a lack of memory.

The comp has a 2.8Ghz P4 with a FSB of 533Mhz and 128 MB of PC2700 (333 Mhz?) RAM (and integrated graphics so that eats up RAM too). I was thinking about buying him a stick of RAM for Christmas but was wondering if I need to buy PC2100 or PC2700? Doesn't the FSB of the CPU affect the sort of RAM you can use, meaning that their stick of PC2700 RAM is only running at PC2100 speeds anyway? Or am I just totally confused? I know that the CPU is quad-pumped or something, and the RAM is double speed, so that would give 133MHz for the CPU and 166MHz for the RAM? So, anyway, please help.

  11. As shaq365 says lossy to lossy isn't the best thing. If you are gonna convert them to mp3 do it at a highish bitrate (192+) to minimise the effect of the conversion.

    Why are you doing it?
