  1. "souped up" is a regretable term, i agree, but nintendo should also consider some of the wishes that customers have. It's great that they follow their own way, but to not include 5.1 dolby surround would be a mistake i think. There are people at ign that even suggest that the Wii IS a Gamecube with some extra's. Now i don't agree with that but the wii is not cheap without a reason.
  2. i thought so too, but i contacted Nintendo Netherlands (where i live) to ask them where i could buy the Component cable for my cube, and they told me that the Pal cube doesn't support that unfortunately. Nintendo just removed that option and replaced it with the RGB scart option.. They told me that the special RGB Scart cable was the best i could buy. That didn't really matter because i had a normal television at the time and it looked great with games on 60Hrz. But no i have a HD Projector with component and hdmi (wich Nintendo doesn't support) input and i'm planning on taking full advantage on that.
  3. nope, not the same, by far!
  4. Oh my god! Will Nintendo never learn? 5.1 dolby digital surround??? It sounds more and more that it will be no more than a souped up Gamecube. Will we at least have progressive scan (and a component cable support) in Europe this time?
  5. Hi, question: Will the PAL Wii support component cable? The Pal GameCube doesn't. For the best quality we can buy a RGB Scart cable for our cube, wich is fina for a normal television. To play your wii games at 480p (progressive scan) however, you'll have to have a component cable. So, does anybody know for sure that the Pal version of the Wii will support this cable?
  6. could displacement mapping in an advanced way have anything to do with a secret yet to be revealed? Maybe the wii doesn t need a lot of power. Combining the Havok engine, a GPU, physics acceleration and a sound processor with an advanced method (economic use) of texture mapping? Here is a link that shows an example of displacement mapping on body armour. If this is true, Then imagine how the clothes of Link and the body-armour of enemies can look like. Or is this example too much credit for the displacement mapping technique? http://www.playbomb.com/2005/12/11/124/nintendo-displacement-mapping-patents-discoverec/ Update: Elebits gameplay!!! http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2732
  7. I saw a Halflife 2 hack. you could grab everything and anybody and throw them in the air. There was no point to the game, but it was a lot of fun and made possible by the Havok engine. elebits looks like it could become a new francise... Could...
  8. Mario dies when he falls in....
  9. Aah, i read some more on the i-net. Havok-engine is used for Halflife 2. That is one good engine when it comes to gravity and body limbs. I think elebits will be using this in a big way. I heard some negative reports about this game, but i think it's rather promising really... I'm having more positive feelings about the quality of the opcoming wii games graphics! Excellent! I read somewhere that it makes no difference how many ennemies there are on screen. It doesn't effect the cpu (much) anymore
  10. Looks like Red Steel is using Rag doll physics...
  11. well, we'll see. I think Nintendo games are a lot of fun. But i do like good graphics also. I played Mario sunshine with a smile on my face but i thought the graphics were below par. I was flabbergasted when i played Res4! I hope that we don't have to wait for the last year of the Wii to see awesome graphics. But looking at the galaxy gameplay clips, no worries! ps: Does anyone have the HD clip from IGN?????
  12. I thought they also showed examples of displacement mapping in body armour... So perhaps it's just a way to improve backgrounds/ surroundings? You're right, Sonic looked pretty good too, although not as good as Mario. I thought Rayman looked good too, but those clips were only partialy gameplay. The Braw trailer had no ingame graphics and i really didn't think those graphics were that good anyway (but that's probably because this game is in really early development). Here is a link that shows an example of displacement mapping on body armour. If this is true, Then imagine how the clothes of Link and the body-armour of enemies can look like. Or is this example too much credit for the displacement mapping technique? http://www.playbomb.com/2005/12/11/124/nintendo-displacement-mapping-patents-discoverec/
  13. Does anyone know what this Havoc engine is all about? What does it do to improve the graphics?
  14. okay, is there a way to recognise "displacement mapping" being used? And is Mario galaxy the only game so far that is really using the Wii's capabilities (with lighting, shading, reflexion, etc.)?
  15. My english is not so great i'm afraid... basicly what i mean is that SM Galaxy is using shaders, different gravity on different planets, all kinds of lighting, reflexions, etc. The game seems to take more advantage of the Wii capabillities...
  16. Mario galaxy looked perfect (really, i think it looked just right!), but i think there is room for improvement on the other games. I heard that only Nintendo and e few third party companies have received final development kits. So i have no doubt that games will look a little bit better. But what about that "displacement mapping" they were talking about? Are they using that yet? How can we tell?
  17. what about that "displacement mapping"? Are they using that allready? How can one tell? Maybe there is still a surpise in graphics? I'm very happy with the Wii as it is and i will buy one anyway. But i thought the graphics in Red Steel, Metroid prime, etc were Gamecube quality. There are rumours that the demo's were played on cubes.... So i have this tiny hope that the next secret will be that the graphics will be a little bit better (although Mario Galaxy had perfect graphics and seemd to run on some kind of physics engine)
