  1. They also promised Eternal Darkness and Dinosaur Planet would be N64 titles...
  2. It was inevitable - All my local shops still have gamecube space but its cut down massively. On the plus side it means low prices as they try to get shut of the last few bits of stock - I remember picking up loads of cheap N64 games cos of that
  3. I believe that they should hold it back and make it a Revolution title, and I believe that they will. For starters, its potentially a Triple A game, better than anything during the Gamecube's entire lifespan to date. The gamecube is a dying console and though some people with Revolutions will buy it there won't be that many, don't forget the average public won't know that it can run gamecube games also and the average consumer will still see it as a last gen title, in spite of any included Revolution compatability. Secondly, a triple A game at launch is a sure fire way to sell a console which doesn't already have consumer support. People seem to have forgotten now but when Xbox arrived not many people were interested prior to launch, then word of how awesome Halo is got round and people started buying the system. Didn't happen with Cube because though overall it probably had better launch games it had nothing of the quality of Halo. Twilight Princess looks like a mature game graphically (As opposed to something like wind waker, awesome game though it is) and will hopefully be of the kind of quality that it can sell systems. To launch it on a system, probably leaving it as the only cube game on most shops shelves would potentially be disastrous. Finally, Nintendo have already stated how easy it is to transfer development from Gamecube dev kits to Revolution ones. From that it would suggest to me that they could quite easily take Twilight Princess to the Revolution, improve the graphics and add revolution controllers and release it as a Revolution launch title. I think it will happen, despite Nintendo's constant denials that it will - I think they just want to spring a surprise on us, they've seen superb games like Conkers BFD and Paper Mario flop on N64 because they were released too late in the systems lifespan, I doubt they'd do the same with Twilight Princess.
  4. Reggie on Dev-kits

I wouldn't rule out the idea of them having expanded it, it's the main thing thats received criticsm other than the graphics and it wouldn't add much to the cost to double it but doubling it would make a pretty big difference to gamers. Hopefully they will make it so that small developers can develop simple titles for it (I'm thinking like Geometry Wars on Xbox Live) - Cheap extra's that need to be no more complex than a lot of free web based games could be made available for free or at small costs and it would be fantastic for new developers to make some money and make a name for themselves as well giving gamers even more titles to play. In an ideal world the virtual console would comprise retro sega/nintendo games for download and play via emulators, arcade games ported for download and minigames made by small developers to be available. It would expand the life of the console so much.
  5. Controller battery?

I'm not sure which I'd prefer...it's difficult. Obviously a rechargeable battery is far cheaper and if you run out and you have no AA batteries in and its a sunday so either nowhere nearby is open or you can't get out then (worst possible situation) then at least you can charge it! At the same time if it goes mid-game then its far easier to change the batteries rather than leave it charging for a few hours, they could make it so you can plug a lead directly into the revolution but I can imagine with the idea of the freehand controller it'd probably come out fairly easily. As long as they make sure it doesn't run down batteries too fast and only needs two (No GB Printer/Virtual Boy style 6 battery abominations please) then I think AA batteries is the best option and as Nintendork said you can use rechargeable batteries (Which beats down by worst possible situation fault)
  6. Games/Developers you want on revo

I want to see Frederick Raynal onboard, leading a development team - He's the french Shigsy, formerly in charge of F4 Toys and Adeline. Best known for the cult hits Little Big Adventure (Relentless) and Toy Commander. Awesome guy, as I say, the french Shigsy. I'd love to have him working on the rev in some capacity in fact I'd love Nintendo to hook him up as head of an in-house European based developer. I would like to see a Little Big Adventure sequel, or remake of the original but something new would be pretty great too. I want to see a new Monkey Island point and click, continuing the adventures of Guybrush and using the revolution controller just as one big 3D Mouse. I'm going to keep saying it until someone listens to me I'd also like to see Monolith (No One Lives Forever, F.E.A.R, Condemned) onboard developing some sort of Revolution exclusive first person game. That lot and I'd be a happy man.
  7. I was more petrified when I saw "Your save games have been deleted"
  8. Damn good idea actually, pirates deserve to be used more in games!
  9. If Nintendo do hold the license I'd love to see a sequel on Revolution, they could quite easily hand the license to a third party (Capcom...) and using the Revolutions graphics, tying the revolution controller into the action and puzzles. I only recently got the original (Well thats a lie, I did get it when it first game out but never really got into it and traded it in when I got stuck) and am absolutely loving it, amazing game. My biggest disappointment is probably the graphics, you can really tell it was an N64 game originally and it does detract from the scaryness a bit.
  10. Because I'm not of the opinion that things like that will be as effective on a home system, much like puzzle games are far more effective as pick-up and play things you can use on the move. I'd rather see Nintendo work on incorporating their new controller with one of the genres that their current franchises don't cover effectively. Each to their own though.
  11. Wario Ware/Mario Party - Minigames Mario/Luigi/Wario/PeachDonkey Kong - Platformers Zelda/Fire Emblem/Mario RPG/Pokemon series - RPG Mario Kart/F-Zero/1080/Excitebike/Wave Race - Racing Wars Series/Pikmin - Strategy Smash Bros - Fighting Starfox - Space Shooter Nintendogs - Virtual Pet Animal Crossing - Adventure NBA Courtside/Punch Out/Mario Tennis/Baseball/Football/Golf - Sports Metroid Prime/Geist - FPS (With freehand control instead of the silly lock-on system I don't think you can really call this an FPA anymore, it may still have adventure elements but a lot of FPS games do - No One Lives Forever for example) Then of course we may well see new iteratons of Earthbound/Kid Icarus on the platform which further fill up the adventure/rpg/platformer area. Nintendo have every genre pretty well covered I'd think, what I'd like to see is certainly real licenses and likenesses acquired to make the likes of NBA Courtside and Punch Out as I think they could be pretty impressive that way. Perhaps make a more serious Tennis game as well Mario Tennis (Super Tennis 2?) For that new license the main area's I can see need improvement are the FPS and 3rd Person Adventure Categories - A third person shooter or a real FPS game (I'm talking something that can hold a candle to Unreal Tournament, Half-Life and Halo). Failing that some sort of funny, point and click game in the style of the monkey island games. To be honest though I can't see Nintedo doing a great job of any unless they hand it to western developers. I just hope the new franchise isn't another platformer - They have enough already. I think those suggesting it'll be a non-gamers game may just be right though
  12. Revolution USB

The talk of a web browser for the revolution and plugging in a PC's keyboard to use with it has left me thinking about the other use of the USB ports on the Revolution... Unless Nintendo choose to block this (Which I wouldn't put past them) would there be anything to stop someone saving things onto USB memory sticks, or indeed USB hard-drives from the Revolution instead of having to use expensive SD cards. It'd certainly be a cheaper option and a lot of people already have a USB memory stick or HDD. In fact I think developing proper compatibility could work brilliantly, imagine being able to stream music off a USB hard-drive as the soundtrack to a game (Much like in compatible Xbox games) but without the added bulk to the system that having a hard-drive built in would bring, it'd be fantastic. You could buy a 20GB USB Hard-Drive, store most of Nintendo's virtual console games on it as well as music and photo's to view on your TV via the Revolution. Of course thanks to the use of SD cards there's nothing to stop you buying the smallest possible one and just storing saves on your PC and chopping and changing but it'd be far more convenient just to be able to use a small portable hard-disk I think. There are also plenty of other things they could be used for, such as plugging in other accesories such as your existing keyboard for use on the web browser or to use for typing your name in as a High Score if you wish. Or maybe even plug in an Xbox 360 Pad (the USB one for PC) and use it instead of the controller shell if you wish. Not only that but other accesories, such as USB steering wheels and such. It could be fantastic and Nintendo could use it for their own peripherals Thoughts?
  13. Stand is the power supply?

It would make sense and it does sound familiar - It makes the console smaller and allows it to stand up straight, and if you want to have it flat down then you probably won't be able to see it (A bit like the N64 one that plugged in). I hope they improve the stand a bit though, I think its quite ugly though the size of it would be explained if it has the power pack inside - I suppose its no uglier than having a big black thing midway down your plug socket
  14. Webrowsing Revolution!

It's a good idea but it should come built in for free in my opinion - Regarding the keyboard peripheral, I see absolutely no reason why you couldn't plug a PC's keyboard in.
  15. Football Manager Revolution?

It would be lovely but I can't see it happening unless Nintendo have added a big hard-drive, it takes up a lot of space and needs a lot of RAM to run and a cut down version would be crap.
  16. Revolution Design Picture

I'm pretty sure someone confirmed SD cards would be under that flap, but that doesn't mean that something else can't be hidden under it does it now
  17. Super Smash Bros. Revolution

How about Ditto as a character/item? As a character he can't attack on his own but he can morph into any character, except unlike Kirby he is an exact duplicate - Either that or as an item where he appears and turns into the character that goes nearest to him and then attacks before disappearing.
  18. Super Smash Bros. Revolution

To be fair no, its just a judgement based on me and others I've spoken to about it who love the idea of Sonic finally being able to fight Mario. Don't really want to see any more Sega characters in it though because it just wouldn't feel right. Totally agree on the mario characters point, we don't want the cast additions being all the characters from Mario Kart. I'd say only Wario is an essential addition. Hopefully with the wi-fi Nintendo will include new downloadable characters and levels over time. Say they invent a new franchise thats suitable, up they pop. As for the number of characters from franchises I'd say in general two is enough, more from Mario but perhaps less from others. It'd be cool though in some cases to have a good guy and a bad guy for the two main charactesr (i.e. Samus and Ripley) What I don't want is something like this
  19. Super Smash Bros. Revolution

Unique moves for characaters is a must I think, and perhaps a few characters from Melee left out? Or at least Dr. Mario, he was totally unnecessary. I'd like to see... Animal Crossing Character - Two costumes make it a girl, two make it a boy. I'm thinking attacks involving spade/fishing rod/net as well as normal punches. Could work pretty well. Captain Olimar - Normal attacks involving him nutting people and then various B button equivalent attacks with different pikmin doing different things. Wario - He's got to be involved in some way, I can't believe they missed him out of the last one. Sonic - The companies have a great relationship well and every gamer would love to see it. It must be done. I think the likes of Pichu and Dr. Mario - The clone characters should still be in it, but as different oufits (In the same way Daisy was for Peach) I can understand them being in and its cool but is there really any need, Dr.Mario could still have the pill instead of a fireball but it should just be an alternate outfit. I'd also like to see Mario and Luigi's backpacks added, just to make them a little different and more interesting. If they make each character different and make an even bigger, better adventure mode then it would be perfect - New weapons and stuff would be cool. I think maybe wario ware related special items could be good. To be honest I'm really curious to see how they do it though I expect we'll see something more like the way you manipulate the analogue stick to do something different with the a/b button mapped over to the stick. I don't expect they'll do anything too drastic. Should be top notch though
  20. Wario Ware Revolution

I think it's inevitable this will happen, and not just 'at some point in the console's lifespan' but at launch. It is the perfect way to demonstrate what the controller can do and some of the stuff shown in the Revolution promo video would hint at it (A full game based on chopping and frying? Unless they're making a Mario Chef...although knowing how they milk Mario it wouldn't actually srurpise me ) Also if anyone listened to IGN's podcast on the Revolution they sounded pretty convinced that one was in the work and would be a launch title. My only concern about launching with something like this is the graphics, if they do a 2D game no matter how enjoyable it is it's probably safe to say it won't stand up well against Halo 3. That doesn't matter to you or me but to the casual gamer, it just might - Even EyeToy/Buzz! have well animated 3D graphics. Each mini-game in 3D would probably be best and I think cel-shading could work well.
  21. Games you wanna see

Monkey Island 5 - A beautifully animated pseduo 3D, cel-shaded point and click adventure using the Revo's controller and with all the humour and brilliance that made the series great. It won't happen though
  22. I want to see point and clicks make a come-back. Secret of Monkey Island with gorgeous 3D backgrounds and models, with the revolution wand being used to look at and use things. It might be simple but it would be brilliant.
  23. Nintendo and kiddy gamers

Very good point, I think the thing is that Nintendo push their so caled 'kiddy' franchises a lot as they make up the bulk of first party games whereas Sony have developers working on the likes of Ratchet & Clank, but also push 'adult' games such as The Getaway and Killzone just as much. The problem is Nintendo have become far too associated with Mario whereas with Sony and Microsoft you can't think of one franchise that defines their system. It would be a step in the right direction for nintendo to develop, and market more adult games - Geist, Eternal Darkness and Metroid were a step in the right direction but all got very little hype compared to the likes of the latest Mario Kart and consequently got shunted to the back, but with a bit more advertising and a bit more of a shine on the actual products then they could make a success of it. Thats not to say Nintendo should abandon Mario but if they really want to appeal to the average gamer they need to give just as much time to more mature franchises, that don't involve a plumber "Wahoo" and "Waha" 'ing his way around levels. Don't misunderstand me, I personally don't believe the likes of the Mario titles are childish. As Bogbas said, Paper Mario contains some humour only adults would understand, much like The Simpsons and kids tv shows (ITV's Ministry of Mayhem is a great example of this), children can still enjoy it but their are comments that are subtle enough for children not to understand but direct enough for adults to find hilarious. However mass market perception is that such titles are childish, purely based on visuals and as they are Nintendo's marketing focus they just assume that its all Nintendo are about. I don't believe the amount of 'Kiddy Games' makes the console appear to be a kids system, I believe its the lack of mature titles and the advertising focus on 'Kiddy Games' that does it, although to be fair the Gamecube's design and name didn't help. As someone said, PS2 has more kiddy games however the majority of them are third party ones that you wouldn't even hear about unless you saw in the shops, based on movie franchises and cartoons and they're all absolute crap but no-one pays them any attention because they never hear of them. If Nintendo put as much of a focus on their adult games with the Revolution - F-Zero, 1080, Wave Race, Excitebike, Metroid etc they could turn them into huge must have, adult franchises that can co-exist with the likes of Mario Kart.
  24. Famitsu next gen survey

Don't forget that's in Japan and Nintendo systems have never struggled in Japan as they do in Europe and the US. Therefore even if the Japanese are anticipating the Revolution it doesn't necessarily mean gamers, retailers and developers over here and in the US are.
  25. I'm not anticipating anything major, though it would be nice - Maybe a confirmation that Twilight Princess will be compatible with the Revolution Controller, I don't imagine we'll find out the final name till E3 personally.
