  1. Just pointing out to anyone on the forums at the moment to switch on BBC2 (or the guardian website) to watch the select committee live with James & Rupert Murdock on. It's quite shocking at the moment with Rupert denying any knowledge or a blackmail charge against one of his chief reporters who faced a 40 years imprisonment. Some staggering revelations.

  2. Is it just me? Both the main site and the forum sometimes just decide they don't want to be on this site anymore and suddenly redirect me to some porn site (I dunno if it is, I press back before it fully loads but it has girls looking "sexy" on either side)

    and also

occasionally a disembodied voice starts talking to me about products when I'm on this site but there are no open ads or anything it is coming from?

I've passed that on to the staff, thanks for the message!

  3. Really? De Gea looks promising, but is still so young.

Absolutely, De Gea may be the most exciting keeper prospect in the world right now and while he is young, lets not forget how young Casillas was when he became Real Madrid's no 1, he show's great composure and decisions an area normally lacking in young keepers. As well as this he's the future Spain number 1 played over 60 games for a top Spanish team, a 2011 Under 21 European Championship winner a UEFA Europa League winner and a UEFA Super Cup winner. His age is a very deceptive figure when considering this keeper.

Jones is great, but won't have any impact since he's down the pecking order.

Unfortunately, or possibly fortunately, it would seem he's not too far down the pecking order. Wes has gone and so has John. Evans is not quiet developing has hoped and this could be a big season for him if he gets some game time. It can be fair to say Vidic and Ferdinand, first two. After them Smalling and Jones. Rio tends to pick up and injury and it's going to be a very packed season with many many games. Fergie wants number 20 and wants the Champions League so you may see Smalling and Jones playing as joint 3rd choice as players are rested often.

    Downing > Young imo.

Simply the only reason Downing seems to be more expensive than Young is that he had another year on his contract to run. It's widely known that the comparison between the two is quite stupid, they are different players. Young likes to play in the hole and is a position you can't play unless some part of you in a clever player. He is quick, tricky but he's also a good footballer and works extremely hard. He's just a good all round player who can play anywhere across the midfield apart from central midfield in a 2 man midfield as that's asking a little much. Young is only second behind Fabregas for assists in the Premiership in the last 4 seasons, he's a valuable asset.

Stewart Downing is a very good player and severely underated by anyone who simply judges by his England performances 4 years ago. He's extremely quick, only second in the Villa squad behind Gabby and they had Walker/Young who are both pretty pacey! He rarely ever gives the ball away, his crossing is excellent, he's good on both feet, makes good decisions. His only fault is that he is not sometimes direct enough, if you compare him to Adam Johnson, he runs directly at players and commits them, Downing when on fire does it and to be fair glides past players but a lot of the time he never really goes past players, more opens up half a yard. Saying that, that's also a quality because instead of running into areas of trouble, he does pick out good options.

  4. You know what you will get with him, a useful player and will fire crosses in for Caroll to get on the end of.

What is strange however is Liverpool will spend £85million on Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing while United could spend £85million on David De Gea, Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Wesley Sneijder. I certainly won't be complaining.

  5. Admittedly, yes, you have played them, but not really effectively. It's merely an opinion and not meant to be taken as gospel and is a lot better journalism than the shit spouted by the Mirror/Mail. It is true though that Wenger's hands have been tied by the payers at his disposal and the injuries they have sustained.

Cesc is undeniably a great player, however it's been over 6 years now since the last trophy. It's quite simple, that is too long. Wenger can play all the nice football he wants, but he's going to need to convert that into points sooner rather than later and has the opportunity to reshape the team into a winning one. Arsenal have gone too long without winning anything.

  6. Read a article about how the sale of Fabregas would be an opportunity for Arsenal, the combination of his unable to play in the middle of a 4-4-2 and the fees mentioned would mean that Wenger would be able to bring in some suitable players and give him much more tactical freedom, it's a good read. Link

Also seems as if Tevez is moving closer to leaving city, if he went to Corinthians then fair play to him. He's said he wants to get closer to his family. Although it's nice to see South American clubs taking the European method and spending money they don't have.

  7. Am I the only uncultured one who thinks newspapers are a complete waste of paper and just reads everything on the internet when it happens for free, instead paying 30p to read about it 12-24 hours later?

You're not by any stretch of the imagination however there is a lot in the papers that never makes it to their web versions and vice versa. The best journalism tends to be in the papers though and is only moved to the subscription based services in iPad app's for example.

  8. Tevez seeks City departure

Striker wants to leave to be close to family

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has declared that he wants to leave the club this summer but has asked for the fans' understanding.

The Argentina international submitted a transfer request in December, before quickly performing a dramatic U-turn and pledging his commitment to the club following clear-the-air talks.

His long-term future remained the subject of intense speculation but manager Roberto Mancini always expressed confidence that he would stay.

Mancini stated over the weekend that he planned to keep Tevez after a proposed swap deal with Inter Milan for Samuel Eto'o fell through.

City's FA Cup success and UEFA Champions League qualification also appeared to boost their chances of holding on to the 27-year-old, but the reasons for his decision are more personal.

Tevez has never made a secret of the fact that he misses his children, who have been living with their mother back in Argentina, and he wants to put their interests first.

The news that he is again seeking a departure will come as a major blow to City, considering the impact he has made since controversially joining from local rivals Manchester United in 2009.

Tevez's announcement comes on the same day that City made their first signing of the summer, bringing in Gael Clichy from Arsenal.

"It is with great regret that I have to inform Manchester City of my wish to leave the club," he said in a statement.

"Everything I do, I do for my daughters, Katie and Florencia. I need to be closer to them and to spend more time with them."

Manchester City have yet to respond to the statement and attempts to speak with Tevez will be complicated due to his present commitment to Argentina at the Copa America.

Absolutely brilliant, he's a whinging piece of s**t and has been from the moment he joined. Great player but very, very stupid. I can genuinely believe he wants to be with his daughters and their mother, who was reported to not enjoy England so moved back to Argentina. Apparently she would consider a move with him and his girls to a country with a more Latin culture. Hint hint.

  9. Nasri: "I came to England to get trophies because I haven't won anything in my (Arsenal) career. We all need to get out of our comfort zone, to grow up and test ourselves.I am hungry for titles. I play football because I love this sport and want to feel the emotion of winning. Lifting a trophy all together, this is the beauty and sense of team sports."

    arsene.gif

Well that rules Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal out. How about Wenger goes after Gibson, he's after first team football.

Edit: If you thought the England kit was bad, you've not seen the accompanying goalkeeper kit.

Not quite as brilliant as this cracker the heros a Fulham have pulled together, serious. This is for sale.

  10. Lets see what we have hear..... Ah, Chairdriver, interesting.

Signature : 7 / 10. Not your fault at all really, I'm assuming it if you that made it, but the image used is just too low quality. If it were cleaner and crisper then maybe could have been an 8 and then I would have said something along the lines of; Nice, a powerful image and composed well but I feel more could be done with it.

Avatar : 8 /10. Essentially I'm just going to repeat myself here, just without the part about picture quality. Nicely done but I can't give it a 9 or more without more done to it.

  11. I'm guessing that they wont actually announce the signing of De Gea until July 1st then?

    2 hours later.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper passed a medical this week and has agreed a five-year deal with the club.

“I feel very proud and I can’t wait to start playing here,†said De Gea in an exclusive interview with MUTV’s Mandy Henry.

“When a club the size of Manchester United comes in for you it obviously makes you very, very happy.

"I saw their interest as an extra motivation to work even harder to show off my ability.

"It’s a great privilege to be part of a club like United and I'm keen to do my best and show what I can do.â€

    Link

Very, very excited by this signing. :bouncy:

  12. He was pretty crap though, injuries just added to it.

... He rates an average of around one goal in 3. Not bad for a player with multiple times broken tibia and fibula and who's career has been written off many a time. Give credit where credit is due, he's never going to be Messi but he's by no means crap.

Genuine guy who knocks his other half about.

True, however his wife seem to be more than happy now and we can only assume that what was written in the likes of the NOTW and the Daily Fail was mostly fabrication.

    You have to admire a player who has continued after the following and still plays at a respectable level;

  13. Well Glad De Gea deal is almost finished.

    Maybe the worst kept secret in football and let be honest, the sheet really was not necessary. Seems very calm and collected between the sticks so I hope he can adapt quick enough for next season. Very long fingers as well. Gloves must have to be made specially for him. It's no wonder his girlfriend follows him wherever he goes. She's not bad either;

In other news it seems Djibril Cisse is all but moved to Lazio and seems to get rather upset when Panathinaikos fans sing farewell to him in a Greek nightclub.

Always seems like a genuine guy who has been so unlucky with injuries he's had.

  14. So again you've failed to provide evidence that proves Fifa can and still intend to push through 5 plus 6. Bravo.

As for your 90 minutes a day, I see what you're saying if they had more time they could be better. However this ruling doesn't really limit youth players all that much and most teams have successful academies running. The real issues aren't with the under-16s they lie in the area between 17-21, where the players get too much too soon. They think they've made it when they're in the reserves.

I could make an Arsenal XI out of young English players who thought they were ready but weren't at that age and now play in League 2.

As for Ashley Young, I've piped on about him ever since I saw him play at Watford years ago, so don't think I don't consider him a good player. Saying that, it doesn't mean you've not over paid for him. I mean 4 years Thierry Henry cost £16 million and Young is worth about the same (admittedly the Henry deal was a bit special with all money up front but the prices are still similar).

The little 'Bravo' was not really needed was it? However I will allow it a little as you have proveded evidence in reguard to a few quotes. However it is well known that FIFA are intent on bringing in home grown rules the FA already have it, that started this year.

The Henry deal certainly was special, however it was over ten years ago. and it in an interesting point you raise about the years 17-21. Have you looked at the likes of Ravel Morrison? Nice article in the Mirror [Link] that would really show what you are talking about here and it is a real shame to see a player of such quality on the pitch to have such troubles off.

In other news a interesting pieice in the Mail, I know. [Link]. Usual crap like 'the next Messi' from their spokesman, however is this a good idea?

They may get as little as 6 games if they don't make it past the group stages and without the reserves leage that could mean no games after christmas.

Sixteen clubs including Barcelona and Inter Milan have confirmed their involvement in The Nextgen Series - a six-month format which allows the continent's top young footballers to compete against each other week in, week out for the first time.

Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, PSV, Celtic and Sporting Lisbon will also take part.

Sanctioned by UEFA and the FA, the tournament has been established to help Europe's best teenagers make the transition from youth football to senior level.

Four groups of four teams will battle it out home and away from August, with the top two progressing to the knockout stages which begin in January.

The tournament is the brainchild of ex-pro and former Watford Academy manager Mark Warburton and TV producer Justin Andrews.

Warburton said: "The Nextgen Series will provide a cognitive learning environment for players to experience how best to cope with the pressures of top-level football."

Organisers believe young players will benefit from travelling abroad and facing new styles of play, as well as being officiated by top referees and having to deal with media interest.

Clubs confirmed include Barcelona, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Marseille, Sporting Lisbon, Wolfsburg, Molde, PSV, Celtic, FC Basel, Fenerbahce and Rosenborg.
