The Cape Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I'm not sure this deserves a topic, but I didn't know where to post this so... feel free to move this to a better place! Talking about the NES in the first Nintendo console thread I remembered how back in the day Club Nintendo was already a thing, and an awesome one for what I remember. The way to proceed if you were really stuck in a game was to call them and ask for help. Also, the nintendo magazine (in Spain it was called Nintendo Acción) was one of the few ways for me and my brothers (well, mostly for them as I was quite young) to discover new games and also as guides sometimes. Back then the games were not translated, and at first it was hard enough to read our own language, so understanding what was written in the games in English was way out of the question. Just as an example, I played again The Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link a few years ago. It was the first time that I understood the 'It's dangerous to go alone! Take this' and also realised that in Zelda 2 people actually told you where to go. It almost felt like cheating. Ocarina of Time was a good English teacher though, it came at about the right time. Anyway, my point is that at that time Club Nintendo answered calls asking for help in games, sent VHS at home with Nintendo news (like or ) and also gave a member card (the top one in the picture, my phone hates me past midnight and I can't take a picture of mine) In the UK I guess you had the same? Did the card look the same and the videos were the same as well? Do you have any fun memories that you'd like to share?
Helmsly Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I used to get the Club Nintendo magazine in the post. I remember it had a cheats and tips section with maps and I think it also came with a small poster aswell? I still have most of my issues somewhere in my home. I vaguely remember having some kind of card but I can't remember if it looked the same as the one you posted. It looks familiar though. I remember I was a little obsessed with this magazine, because it was pretty much the main place I found out about new games at the time, so I'd sit there reading it over and over again when a new issue came out. If I remember correctly, they stopped it here when Nintendo Magazine System launched as that was the official magazine so there was little need for Club Nintendo after that.
