Need some advice or recommendations on new speakers

There were some threads posted but they are over 2 years old so thought I would make a new one. I know next to jack about sound and don't have the greatest of hearing especially as I have a constant ringing in my ears, but I can tell the difference between what a decent set of headphones can produce, and the crap that comes out of my current speakers.

 

I could do with a new set to go with the new pc I built with comes with HD audio instead of AC97 (hope that means something to someone as I barely understand the difference) and would like to take advantage of it. I would be using the onboard soundcard to hook em up and my budget is roughly around ?50. Would prefer to spend less tho.
