GOOD spam filters

I've been getting vast amounts of spam emails recently on my secondary email address as the service provider doesn't have any spam blocking on it. (and Mail's spam blocking just doesn't seem to do the trick). Someone suggested that I set up the email account to forward to a Gmail account and then set up the Gmail account in Mail, but I don't want to go to all the trouble of setting this up if it doesn't work very well so if anyone knows about this please share your information. Also I'm not switching mail programs so don't suggest that I do.
