  1. It's really interesting to see how WiIU and Switch systems are different from Nintendo's typical successes. Typically they use ageing tech in new ways meaning it is cheap but surprising to customers. Handheld power isn't particularly surprising when we've seen the Shield/Vita; but the race to the bottom in regards to price in mobile gaming and the AAA mainstream charts of consoles is changing gaming. Nintendo should have come out fighting with a lower price point but why risk it if you've millions of switch views on YouTube and only launch with 2million worldwide. Financially it's better to come out high and then reduce. I'm sure we'all see a price reduction when this fails to shift big numbers. E3 should be fascinating too...

Failing to shift at launch price isn't an option?

That would be the third platform on the bounce failing to sell units out of the gate. Financially it isn't good if you have units stuck on shelves.

  2. The funny thing with the online aspects of Switch is that they're actually pretty forward thinking really. It's a completely bizarre way of going about things compared to the past, but it's certainly not backwards.

I'm still of the opinion that we may well see Streetpass and Miiverse return through mobile apps and integration with Switch games. Nintendo have clearly gone all-in with smartphone integration in a way that nobody really has done before (it's basically a requirement for anything that involves online with this thing!) and they have conceded that almost everyone on the planet has a smartphone and carries it around with them everywhere they go. So why not take advantage of that? The logic is there, but it all comes down to how exactly they integrate it...

It did take a really long time to get there though. The first year of the PS4 and Xbone really were shockingly anemic (and that's not through lack of support, but simply because games just take too much time and manpower to make these days).

It probably is using quick charge technology, considering that it's using USB C. The battery just so happens to be honkingly massive.

Quick charge is dependent on the chipset. I'm not sure USB C means abutting in that regard.

Personally I'd just wait until you need the storage. The longer you wait, the cheaper the SD Cards will become. 256GB ones will probably go down to the same price as a 128GB one within the year, as 512GB ones become common (and take the place of the 256GB ones).

I reckon that was the original plan, before the pound tanked hard.

But Reggie said they targeted $299 in the states which again the reaction has been surprise. People hoping for $249.

Seems like this is the price point they were always looking at.

  3. This game looks fantastic and should be miles better than the tripe that was Skyward Sword. Voice acting, too! Sign me up. I just hope the plot lives up to it all.

This is a bummer. I'm also a bit confused about it running better undocked than docked. How come?

I just hope the difference between WiiU and Switch isn't too great.

Maybe the resolution bump. Undocked is 720p maybe the the Upscale in resolution when docked causes performance dip.

  4. Not sure I agree with the 'it's overpriced' compared to other consoles. It's overpriced compared to consoles now, yes. Which is obviously a no brainer if people had to choose which is better value. But at launch? Wasn't the PS4 like £350 with little to no games? not justifying the price of the Switch, although the price of the actual console isn't too much of a problem for me. It's the games prices and the stupid accessory prices that's my issue.

And lack of games, and app voice chat, and several other things etc. :P

I do agree that you don't build a platform and then have to look at any price of said system compared to older platforms that now would be reduced in price.

However value is all in the eyes of the beholder. You can't get away from people seeing £280 and then maybe seeing Xbox S and thinking it's better value for money.

I don't think it's over priced compared to other consoles I just think it's overpriced when looking at it on its own merits.

I think they should of targeted £249 and gone from there.

  5. This is defiantly a console you can take on the go rather than vice versa.

    Size: Vertical 102mm × horizontal 239mm x thickness 13.9mm (when Joy-Con mounting ※)

※ maximum thickness of from analog stick tip to the ZL / ZR projection part is 28.4mm

    Mass: Approximately 297g

    (Joy-Cons attached: about 398g)

    Built-in battery: Lithium-ion battery / battery capacity 4310 mAh

※ The internal battery can not be removed. If it is necessary to exchange it, we will exchange it for a fee at Nintendo service center (online repair reception).

Battery duration: About 2.5 to 6.5 hours

Duration varies depending on the playing software. For example, "Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild" is about 3 hours.

    Charging time: About 3 hours

※ time is when the unit is charging to sleep the body. (Google Translate)

3 hours to charge is not good for a modern portable device like this. No quick charge.

  6. Reggie on why it isn't bundled.

We look at every launch uniquely as to what's the right thing to do for that launch," Fils-Aime told GameSpot in an interview today. "And I've been involved in launches dating back to the Nintendo DS. Each one is a little different. For this launch, what we found is that with the range of software that's coming--not only available day one but through April and into the summer, and including the holiday timeframe with Super Mario Odyssey--that we wanted to enable the consumer to buy the software they want, to look to get to the most approachable price point we could get to. That led us to a $299 price point, and let the consumer decide what games they want to buy."

Fils-Aime explained that Nintendo started out by identifying the price they want to be at--$300 in the United States--and worked to reach it. There are certain things that simply couldn't be left out of the package, like the Joy-Cons and various cables.

"The first decision that we make is, where do we want to be in terms of the hardware price point that's going to be approachable and hit the marketplace we want? And from a US price point, we wanted to be at $299," he said. "Certainly, lower is always better, but at a $349 or $399 price point, we just didn't feel that was the right place to be. So we start there. And then it's all about, what's going to be included? Obviously the inclusion of the two Joy-Con, critically important; all the right cables, the dock, critically important. We also have to do this from a financial perspective as well. Once we got to that bundle, it really needed to be at $299 without a piece of software."

"You make the comment about Wii Sports, and certainly, the analogy that it's a great utilization of the Joy-Con and shows off the capabilities of the system, that is absolutely true," Fils-Aime said. "I would say, though, that 1, 2, Switch has many more experiences--it's a wider pallet of experiences, potentially more akin to Wii Play than to Wii Sports. And, again, from that standpoint, Wii Play was a standalone piece of software both with a controller at the time and without, so that's probably the better analogy."

  7. No miiverse or street pass

Neither the Nintendo 3DS’s StreetPass feature or Nintendo’s social network Miiverse will appear on the company’s new Switch console. That’s what David Young, Nintendo of America’s assistant manager of public relations, told GamesBeat today at the Switch event in New York City.

“I can answer that we’re not going to be using Miiverse for Nintendo Switch,” Yong said when asked about the feature today.

  8. Why? What makes you say that?

Just don't think it's a £40-£50 title. Looks more like a budget game even though I do feel it looks fun.

Does the market want games like this anymore? Think it's a tough sell these days.
