  1. I would say that Nintendo should have scrapped the DS and Wii at launch, but then I don't think that'd have changed much and would kill much of their income

The thing is its free money for nintendo isnt it. I dont think they need to kill them off but they just need to make sure they dont push them anymore.

I am not sure if its still current but when I checked the nintendo site a few weeks back they had a comparison page showing the two wii u packages but on the same comparison page they had the Wii as well which to me just made no sense.

As for the UK market's attitude towards nintendo. On the home console front the wii was an exception. The UK market has never relly been very good for nintendo consoles and we could just basically be seeing a repeat of that.

Animal Crossing just will not stop selling. Incredible!!!

Wii U sales depressing but predictable. When are they going to announce confirmed dates for Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3, and Wonderful 101?

  2. I always expect more; and when they tell me to expect more I believe them. Gulliblbe maybe but I don't fully see the reasons why not. It CAN be different. I find it very frustrated.

And the system doesn't quite work. They don't get the support to push gamers into buying another console which gets all the games. They then release old games most gamers have access to at a fraction of the price. It doesn't work!

The system most defiantly doesn’t work. Third parties have to pay a licencing fee to put games on the Wii U and less third party support means less revenue for Nintendo. There was a reason Nintendo didn’t mind all the 3rd party shovelware on the wii and that was cos they were still making a pretty coin of that rubbish.

The idea that people that buy Nintendo hardware should be grateful for any 3rd party support regardless of the content is crazy. Personally I do buy Nintendo HW mainly for the Nintendo games but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t expect better 3rd party support. I remember the Gamecube droughts and we shouldn’t have to suffer that again.

The reality is there is only so much money people have and Nintendo are in competition with others. There is no guarantee that the Nintendo hard hitting software will change the fortunes of the console. The gamecube had the big hitters and still struggled against the competition and the Wii u could suffer the same fate.

I don’t know what goes on at Nintendo HQ but at times I feel like they are living in a bubble not taking into account market trends and what developers/consumers want.

  3. 360 and ps3 ports is what is holding Wii U back. With Wii U it means there are 3 different CPUs and architectures to develop for, next Gen cycle they'll be 2 different CPUs and 3 similar architectures. That's a much better position for Wii U . Nintendo still has work to do with the Wii U developer environment and Wii U sales, but that's as much as they can do. The Unity engine deal, Indie deals, free patches and updates, these are all positive moves.

I still think when they were banking the dough with the Wii and DS they should been buying more studios in the west.

  4. Yeah, but the proof's in the puddin' mate, a lot of it isn't even Nintendo's decision. You know, a lot of these games were being made for release right on Wii U's launch window, which makes a lot of them not worth the financial bother. All these studios are use to concentrating on just 2 consoles as well.

I think you need to wait until next-gen development cycle is in full swing before guaging Wii U multiplat potental.

It isn’t all Nintendo’s decision but historically Nintendo hasn’t had the best of relationships with 3rd parties. Whether it was the bigger royalty fees charged in comparison to sony or the N64 cartridge when CD format was preferred Nintendo just doesn’t seem to get it when it comes to 3rd parties in the West. Nintendo can’t carry a console by themselves and 3rd parties are key.

I would agree we don’t know for sure about next-gen development and how that effects the wii u but I’m defiantly in the pessimistic camp and not expecting games unless 360/PS3 ports also happen which will eventually stop.

  5. It still would have released a few months after the other consoles and people would have moaned about that too 'everyone's already played it on ps360' you'd say. Wii u is getting a reboot of a cult classic - let's all moan it isn't getting Tomb Raider. Have you got a Wii U yet Liger?

We have to see where Wii U stands on ports when the other companies join next-gen, because at the moment, Wii U is like the 4th console where development is concerned.

Personally, I think could sell better than Batman and ME3 on Wii U, even though it's older.

Let's just wait and see what it offers in features and value.

Yes I have a Wii U and thats why I'm pissed. I fully expected games like Tomb Raider, Bioshock, MGR, etc to get same day releases as the 360/PS3 versions.

I really wasn’t expecting to see 2 year old games get ported. Now I pretty much accept I have a console which will be great for Nintendo games but anything else is a lottery.

  6. It was also free on PS Plus a few months ago.

I'm quite baffled why S-E chose to port this rather than Tomb Raider. It's the same as the Kingdom Hearts HD Collection being a PS3 exclusive when many of the games are on Nintendo platforms.

These 3rd parties that are just releasing ports and then complain that their games don't sell on the Wii U want shot. Ports of newer games are very welcome but when a company hypes up 2 year old games and then expect people to pay top dollar for it they can just go to hell.

They dont even give the titles a chance. At a minimum they should release them for £20 - £30 max.

If they port new games and they bomb I can understand them being cautious to release games on the wii u but sending old games out to fail is just baffling.

We'll have to see exactly how special this is, but given the choice I'd go for this over Tomb Raider. I think it is showing core gamer commitment on Nintendo's part. If this tips the scales of a worthy reinvent, and uses the 'full potential of the GamePad' (whatever that means) then it's win win. Let's give it a chance before you start pissing and moaning. Let bit-part interactive movie games stay on other consoles, Wii U is looking more like a gamer's console IMO.

I think Nintendo HQ would much prefer if if 3rd parties were releasing new games like tomb raider on the wii u!!

  7. Well, I'm buying it! As for Tomb Raider, I don't have any interest what-so-ever in Tomb Raider games, I never have.

Let's see what additional content is offered, what the performance is like and crucially the price point before we all start complaining!

The one shocking thing about this game being re-released on the Wii U is that whilst is broke a million on both 360 and PS3, it certainly didn't perform as well as expected and considering the series' pedigree and the quality of the game I'm sure some were disappointed by its sales. Which makes it a strange choice for a Wii U port.

Although I can't recommend this highly enough, I can't see it selling well and will no doubt be another 'disaster story' and a reason for much internet condemnation of the console itself.

    We know the price point.

    Price: $49.99

The console is struggling as it is and expensive ports of old games do nothing to help the situation the wii u finds itself in right now.

The game is currently avaliable on the 360 for £10

  8. Yeah, I read that it did less than 10k. Whilst I suspect it might do a bit better than most digital games due to the convenience of always having it with the 3DS, there is no way it's so high as to move it into the "acceptable" category. And I'm sure they would have mentioned it, like FE, if it had done.

Now I know the BT games tend to be slow burners/evergreen and eschew the giant opening/fast tail off model but I think this really does highlight who is buying the 3DSes in America right now and it's still only the more dedicated gamers.

Being $29.99 certainly doesn't help either when you can get alternatives for cheap/free on mobile devices which also have the benefit of being a device you always tend to keep about your person to enable quick play sessions in your downtime regardless of where you are.

Wii u fit will be the next one to show how much the casual audience has moved on. I would like to think Nintendo recognise this and realise that audience just isn't there anymore but I'm sceptical.

  9. Hilarious. And some people thought the Wii U would get next-gen games.

Nintendo are shit at making hardware. They'd make an absolute killing if they stopped restricting themselves.

    Like Sega and Atari do?

Nintendo going 3rd party isnt the answer!!

  10. Yes it is. Mind you though, thankfully the Wii U has actual games (yes, games!) being released in March in all territories so hopefully this will help light a fire up the Wii U's arse.

Hopefully with the software drought coming to an end, so too will the declining sales.

The Lego game could do pretty well. Looking at the sales over the last 2 months you can see why ubisoft pulled Rayman Legends. Rayman stuggles to sell at the best of times and I see why they made the decision to pull it when the wii u install base is so low right now.

Brain Age training bombed as well. Those casual gamers have moved on.

  11. Such a shame that they grossly under-shipped FEA in the US. Hopefully it'll still have some legs at retail once they get the physical copies back in stores.

Despite this setback, I reckon that it still has a chance at becoming the best selling game in the series in the US!

Previous FE game LTDs for comparison's sake.

    Fire Emblem = 393K

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones = 247K

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance = 86K

It's crazy that still people are struggling to get it @ retail. They should of fixed the problem by now.

Also the Nintendo PR suggests Wii U sales are bad.

  12. In a separate statement, Nintendo reported that 455,000 units of hardware were sold in the U.S. in February, pushing 3DS past 8 million units to date. 180,000 copies of Fire Emblem Awakening were sold in the U.S. in February (117,000 at retail and 63,000 digitally). Nintendo added that "by comparison, the previous hand-held entrant in the franchise – Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon – has sold a little more than 250,000 units life to date in the United States

The highly anticipated “Gears of War: Judgment,” developed exclusively for Xbox 360 by Epic Games and People Can Fly, launches next week on Tuesday, March 19. The “Gears of War” series is one of the most popular franchises in Xbox history, having sold more than 19 million games worldwide, and spawning New York Times-bestselling novels, toys, collectibles, graphic novels and more.

    Software:

    1. Dead Space 3 (360, PS3, PC)

    2. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (360, PS3, Wii U PC)

    3. Crysis 3 (360, PS3, PC)

    10. Madden NFL 13 (360, PS3, Wii, PSV, Wii U)

Wonder how much Fire Emblem sold and how much Nintendo managing to mess up the shipping effected its sales.

  14. US eshop is getting a demo today. In the last 3 weeks all we've got is the chasing aurora demo.

Europe getting the demo on release day? Seriously that cant be right? NOE are idiots and as for the Eshop I will be surprised if they ever realise that people want regular content and not drips and drabs whenever nintendo can be bothered.
