  1. Completed chapter 1 last night. I am liking the balance of difficulty quite a bit. I have had to go back to base from the dungeon to heal my EP gauge a few times from one dungeon and a couple of the bosses have killed me outright before I improved my strategy.

Those savage enemy encounters - do they come (in principle) from SMT or Persona (I have never played either series)? When should you fight them? They seem to OHKO each member of my team, each time I try them.

  2. So it would seem that the NX will not compete with the Neo/Scorpio in terms of power and will have something else technology wise (that is not VR) that will make the system stand out.

It had better be self evidently useful to games in general or they better have at least 5 good ideas that make use of it if they are going this way again.

  3. When playing Xenoblade X, there were quite a lot of caves and sub areas to explore that were not massive.

I actually quite liked that because it meant that a lot of the tasks could be completed quickly (relatively) and it felt like it was worth exploring more of the nooks and crannys. They rarely outstayed their welcome. Also it meant that each section of the game need not be a massive commitment of time.

So I quite like the shrine idea, especially if there is a genuinely useful reward in each of them.

  4. I mean, if you accepted the reality of the first film...where those ships are probably literally too big to exist and where the day is saved by a computer virus written in no time at all...then this film isn't really that much of a stretch.

In fact I felt that the fights actually involved some form of strategy instead of a Deus Ex Machina; they had to bait the queen out and fuck her up.

The only thing I didn't understand was why the giant ship just flew off at the end. Like, who took it?

I was hoping the humans would retrofit it to be some kind of solar system defense platform.

Yes they were to big to exist in the first film, which is fine, but this one was so big it would have had its own gravitational pull and would interfere with the planets own one.

My disbelief suspender just could not stretch that far.

  5. For me it was in the so bad its good camp. Spent a lot of the film laughing at it, some of which was intended.

I can take quite a bit in a film, but having a ship that big so close to both the moon and the planet would have some serious consequences for life on earth. Not to mention the fact that taking off would just be impossible.

Oh, and 90 seconds from piercing the mantle of the earths core?

  6. Which one? The pause menu with them all relaxing in the field or the battle menu? I love both.

I also love the fact that there are no english voices. Brings me back to my youth of importing japanese super famicom games (not that there was too much speech then, but still).

Its a shame that they could not have figured out a way for offscreen play to work.

  7. I always took the Europe in N-E to be a reflection of the way in which games have been released in different territories for years... USA - Japan - Europe (Including the U.K) and Australia so I would have thought that we won't have to change the site name at least.

Besides, we have an excellent community here on the forums which I hope isn't suddenly going to change as a result of this vote.

My feelings on the matter is that whichever way the vote happened to go, it wouldn't change how I feel about the site and the members of our forum; personally I love this site along with everyone here who makes the place what it is. :)

Nothing political or otherwise will change this and I just hope that this outcome will turn out to be a positive one for everyone in time.

I was only joking about the name change. :heh: I feel the same way.

  8. I am gutted to be leaving the EU because it is an institution that showed that separate countries can work together and cooperate, despite nationalistic tendencies. Perhaps not, now, in our case.

I hope that this does not cause a ripple effect across the whole of the EU and @Ashley does not have to change the name of the site to http://www.n-ukandeurope.com or http://www.n-28countries.com or something.

Its also a bit scary now that effectively the leave campaign side of the Tory party will be more or less in charge of the country...

  9. My special edition came yesterday, and I have played about an hour. The time it takes to complete the prologue.

I love how japanese and crazy the game is, and the combat seems fun. You get quite a few moves just from the prologue section of the game which makes playing it at the start seem a lot less fixed and dull than other RPGs can have.

  10. You do know that the Rapp firing had nothing to do with Gamergate right? It was her moonlighting vocation that resulted in it.

But they fired her after her harassers (not actually Gamergate, but similar) brought the moonlighting to Nintendo's attention I thought. Whatever the rights or wrongs of her moonlighting, that is not nothing to do with the problem.

EDIT: I don't get the five guys thing - what is that about?

  11. Wow, castle invasion 3 is hard on birthright. Must have taken me about 20 goes to get a completion with no one dying.

In the end I had to use tonics and rearrange my whole castle to protect various important health giving buildings.

Other than that, just about to play the last chapter....

Okay, so I've made a bit of a mistake. On classic, as I mentioned earlier I had lots of characters saying the are retreating so I got complacent and it all slipped my mind, now on chapter 10 and all of a sudden I realise most of my team is dead. I have 6 characters including corrin, one woman (is marrying and babies a thing in this?)... On the character list there are 3 unknowns so there's hope... But I'm tempted to start again from the beginning, one because I want to marry that woman with the bow, but I'm thinking I'm missing out on character relayinships and such which is a great thing about fire emblem, plus worried at some point I'm going to need a bigger team....

The Royal Family (Takumi, Ryoma, Hinoka, Sakura, Azura(*)) are by far the best units in the game it would appear. If you have let any of these die, I would restart. If you haven't, then there are quite a few more that join you after chapter 10 so it might be worth going on.

(* She is not powerful, but sing is very useful)

  12. Well let's see what we have on the cards

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

    Potentially that Smash Bros. remaster

Pikmin 4 has been "nearing completion" for year now and, unless it's "Pikmin 4 Mobile", it'll be NX

We also have what Retro have been working on. That'll probably be launch

I'd also be surprised if we went launch without anything Splatoon

You also seem to not realise game development times. They're not Activision/Ubisoft where they can churn stuff out yearly. The Mario team is one studio, and they did do some Captain Toad work since then.

They have not committed to Zelda being a launch title, and Zelda delays are always expected - espcially seeing the scope of the game.

Whilst all larger games have a long lead in, by the time the NX is out they will have had 2 and 1/4 years since Captain Toad (and I don't believe they won't have been working on the next mario game in some form during the development of that title).

A launch that had a smash and/or splatoon remaster and Pikmin 4 would have to have a pretty awesome Retro game to make it seem special.

  13. They might have a new Mario to show next E3? Might?

What has the Mario team been doing since 3D world then?

I must admit I thought all of the delay and all of the new games that aren't being released was to make damn sure they did have a strong launch line up.

There could be a brand new IP I suppose.

  14. Yes, it uses the same controls as Splatoon - stick for large movements gyro for fine tuning.

    EDIT: Source

The clear highlight, however — even for a pacifist like this writer — was the bow and arrow. Using 'ZR' to zoom in and a Splatoon-like combo of the GamePad's gyroscope and the right stick to aim felt wonderful, and aiming for headshots — which deal the extra damage you'd expect — was incredibly satisfying.

  15. I am a bit concerned that the things you can do still feel slightly scripted rather than relying on a physics engine.

It would be cool if you could set alight to a whole forest by being careless with flames or move tens of boulders to the top of a hill and knock them all off to create an avalanche style effect.

As it is I still cannot shake the feeling that there are specific locations for this sort of thing.

I would also like to have to build the raft from chopping down trees....
