  2. Many LAN Adapter (both Nintendo and Datel) users are reporting that, after the update, they are unable to connect to the Wii Shop Channel and News Channel, with error number 51420-9. All other online features stay operational.

I'm included in that number. :(

Does this fit your problem, Sméagol?

It seems like Nintendo hasn't really tested this update properly before releasing it...

The workaround is to use a wireless connection, but that doesn't invalidate that the update has made many LAN Adapters partially useless...

  3. Oh why oh why oh why oh why are they iusing friend codes and system codes. Personally I dont care cause online gaming doesnt interest me that much, but I dont UNDERSTAND the reason behind it, it is so alienating to people who do want to go online.

Have nintendo ever properly explained the reason behind all these codes and it makes sense? I dont understand why EVERY game can't just use the system code and on each game you add whoever you want to add to that list - in case I dont want X to play Animal Croassing and Just mario Kart but I want Y to play all my games........ it makes so much sense to me!!!!

Here is a good explanation by NeoGAF's Drinky Crow:

nintendo has the stance on online gaming that they do because they are a very nippon-centric company. as a japanese duder on another forum commented: he doesn't want to be found online by his boss or anyone he hasn't allowed into his "gaming circle". whereas americans like to compete and brag, japanese gamers often want to simply fit in and something like xbl runs completely opposite to that. you don't want your coworkers knowing that you can afford all the latest rpgs; you don't want your acquaintances knowing that you have a thing for hardcore otaku rpgs; you don't want your boss to see that you have 4x the gamerscore he does. xbl is a powerfully competitive environment, not a conformist one, and it is very unappealing to the japanese.

nintendo's lie is that they engineered the wii/ds networks this way to be child-friendly, when the truth is that they did it in a way similar to the docomo and cell phone networks, where you need to know another person's number. it's a paradigm the japanese are familiar with, and has developed to suit their culture. it has the added plus of requiring almost no real infrastructure, which appeals to nintendo's penny-pinching fiscal conservatism.

    Get it now?

  4. Bad news, people: it seems like Nintendo has pulled the plug on little birdie for good. I haven't been able to detect any ROMs in the server in the last few days, despite all my efforts. It seems like I won't be able to give you the scoop on new VC releases anymore.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I'll keep on trying some new tricks from time to time. :)

  5. Here's an european Wii Shop Channel server uploaded ROMs update, and I know someone who's going to be very, very happy:

    - Unidentified NES game

    - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)

    - The Story of Thor (Megadrive)

    - Vectorman (Megadrive)

    - Sonic Spinball (Megadrive)

I'm still waiting for the screenshots, in order to identify that NES game. I'll update when they're uploaded.

  6. HEEEEELP... I cant find Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Wii Shop Channel, its a N64 game right? Ive got the release news on the front page of the wii shop channel but i cant find out where i download it, can anyone help please b/c im desparate to get thjis game.... thanks

On the front page, click the button on the bottom ("Start Shopping" or something like that). Then, click "Virtual Console", "List by System", and choose "Nintendo 64". It should be listed there.

  7. The ROM I had listed above as "unidentified Turbografx game" has now been identified, thanks to the uploading of screenshots for the US version.

So, the unreleased european ROM's currently in the server (and possible releases for next week) are:

    - Ice Climber (NES)

    - Splatterhouse (Turbografx)

It is likely that more ROMs will be uploaded until next Thursday.

  8. No drought. Sonic and Excite Truck just came out, and are very good games. Get one or both of them. Kororinpa is supposedly fun too, and you might just want to try Super Monkey Ball if you missed it.

Also, SSX Blur and Heatseeker are coming out soon, and look pretty good to me.

  9. Update on the ROMS in the European Wii Shop Channel server:

    - Galaga (NES)

    - Ice Climber (NES)

    - Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (SNES)

    - Double Dungeons (Turbografx)

    - Unidentified Turbografx game

    Screenshots are now up for:

    fffd000219e75a86ia9.pngfffd000119e7d624sn3.png53047796vg9.gif

    74061947ew2.gif62284963eb7.gif15819905up5.gif

I think that five games is too much to release in one week, but at least the ones with screenshots will almost certainly be released this week.

  10. Yea I know,it's been out for so long for everywhere else, and it sucks it still isn't out here when this is the only VC game I want.

    They're teasing you.

There's a new ROM in the server. This makes it:

    - Galaga (NES)

    - Double Dungeons (Turbografx)

    - Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (SNES)

    No screenshots yet.

And I'd say that this is probably all we'll get this week. Bear with it.

  11. Here are the results for my tests:

    - Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 (NTSC-J): Doesn't work. Screen goes black, nothing happens.

    - Baten Kaitos Origins (NTSC-U): Works, but displays big black bar on screen bottom. Otherwise playable.

    - Freeloader 1.06B: Works. After loading, you can swap the disc for any of the above games, and they work perfectly!

Therefore, I must agree that this workaround is mostly useful for people who still have a GC Freeloader.
