  1. December 2nd Theories

I don't think they need to release any information about the revolution until E3. they may release something new, but I doubt it. but then they did say there was more to come. but I would be surprised if anything more than speculation and over analysis came out of it. pleasantly surprised perhaps.
  2. Nintendo is right, but you're wrong

to the point about the controller, I actually did get annoyed with the controller this generation. it works, but it was lacking. and yeah, I felt that before the DS was suggested/announced. I don't mind the current controller, but I don't like the form. tbh I don't think the revolution controller has gone far enough, but its a step in the right direction. the ds was a small step, the revolution is a slightly more confident step, I'm looking forward to the third and fourth steps. I don't like the contraints of current controllers, even when I was playing on the nes/snes a large part of me wanted a more interactive experience than the one provided by a controller, something more natural. now the revolution controller is being released hopefully that will be provided. it might flop, if it does I won't care, I just won't play games anymore (I've already stopped playing as much, from several hours a week to probably a couple of hours in the last 6 months) graphics wise, the increase in graphics needs to slow down, and it is. we've reached a point at which microsoft appears to believe we will hit the limits of 480i screens by the end of this console generation (Hence the HD drive). that says to me that next generation a change will NEED to be made, as graphics will have peaked (ie full 1080p) Sound will most likely easily peak this coming gen (360,PS3,rev). so with output exhausted it leaves input only. Nintendo have pre empted that.
  3. No HD? Oh well...

DCK, sorry, but thats complete rubbish. take a 600*500 bmp, and compare it to a 1000*700 bmp. the 1000*700 bmp is larger. so thats where you get the buffer increase from. fair enough. so how does this data reach the buffer? it just magically teleports there does it? nope. so the rest of the machine has to be built to deal with the additional flow of data. hence it costs more.
  4. what is the world coming too?

guitar. there are bad things in the world, but complaining doesn't fix any of them.
  5. Webpages keep flickering and flashing help!!!

reboot. replace monitor replace base unit. in that order, until the problem is fixed. if the screen still flickers after replacing the base unit and monitor, its probably a pebcac situation, so turn everything off, sell it all, and never touch a computer again. problem solved. I'm soo good at this, I ought to do it for money.
  6. Plasma or LCD?

my brother has an LCD screen, I tested it, and couldn't notice any difference from different viewing angles, I even got close to the screen, 90 degrees I think I saw slight difference, but it was hard to tell. however, 480i/480p images on 720p disply = rubbish. so I won't be getting a HDTV for a while yet
  7. HDTV Question (I know, shoot me)

if your tv is only 26" then you want EDTV more than HDTV. if you're going HDTV you should have at least a 32" screen. personally for me SDTV = 4"-28" EDTV = 28"-48" SDTV = 48"+
  8. WE NEED YOU!

maybe they could just have "highlights" of comments. like 5 posts are shown under the news item, and then to view more comments/respond people have to click the link, join the forum and reply.
  9. WE NEED YOU!

"Now the new site has been up and running for quite a long time, but I have noticed one thing that has been left out which was a central part of this site (when it was C-E). I am talking about the discussion boards on the actual news page. Not hidden as a forum link, this may seem like a small thing, but people seem not to be bothered to click onto some link even if its a simple process. I am not bothered as much as I used to be, I used to rarely ever post on this site and I liked the fact that everyone could just pass by and flick through the news could read your comments quickly and easily so i say whoever agrees join up and post here to make sure revo-europe will change for the better! " I can't say I'm 100% sure where he was going with a couple of points, so I may have misinterpreted. this is why punctuation is useful. I hope above version is easier to read for those who had difficulty with the initial post.
  10. WE NEED YOU!

tbh I'm not sure why the posts within the forum can't be replicated on the news page, I imagine there is a technical reason though. the main site is blocked for me, so I read any news on the forum anyway
  11. No HD? Oh well...

ok, found this site, seems to be no biased. here is some of what it says about EDTV (480p), which Rev will support: "EDTV is a major advance EDTV, or 480p, doesn't sound like much compared to HDTV. But it is in fact a major step forward in picture quality. On a big screen it looks closer in quality to HDTV than it does regular television. " "So let's forget about HDTV for a moment. The big leap forward that is accessible to everyone right now is EDTV, which is simply progressive scanning. I had friends over recently and I put on the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" DVD, displaying it on a 120" diagonal screen. They were stunned at the picture quality—"I've never seen ANY big screen ever look that good," said one. "So that's HDTV huh?" Nope. That's just regular DVD my friends, played on a progressive scan DVD player." http://www.projectorcentral.com/video_signals.htm sounds good to me. it makes sense, and they don't seem to have a hidden agenda. and it seems to match up with what Nintendo were saying...
  12. No HD? Oh well...

The reason HDTV is being pushed is for larger sets. if you have a 14 inch screen at 480i (what our sets are roughly now) thats fine, but if you have a 28 inch screen at the same resolution, each pixel will be twice as big as that on the 14 inch screen. go upto 56 inch screens, and they are now four times as big. hence the move to hi definition. its basically for larger sets. seeing as in the UK 4:3 screens are still around, I think its unlikely we'll have HD anytime soon. its definitely not going to be a large benefit in Europe, apart from the idiots who will see the HD quality shining through their SD sets. Out of interest, which gen of video game consoles first supported the widescreen standard in most games? was it N64/playstation, or the current generation?
  13. Why Play.com are complete bastards.

don't particularly love play, they aren't significantly cheaper than game.co.uk, as in their prices match up to games more often now (annoyingly). obviously you don't have to buy £100 worth of stuff to get free delivery from play, so thats where they win over game, but there are cheaper sites out there now. annoys me though, because play used to be consistently cheapest which reduced the reward of shopping around.
  14. revoution controller

as someone said, I can see rts games being really intuitive in this game. I mean, selecting units, I can see plenty of scope for that to be improved, accessing menu's (like unit creation/controlling resource production/collection) would be cool. basically PC games. 3d platformers, to be honest, I can imagine monkey ball style control. ie you tilt the world (using the controller) to control movement. I can imagine surgery games (like ds) popping up. fighters could be interesting, as in I can see an end to button mashing, and potentially skill actually being required. ie being able to move the controller in particular manner to pull off a move. the more I think of it the more I can see ways the controller would control. and to those saying about pointing the controller at the screen, as I understand it the sensors don't have a clue where the tv is, it knows how far sensors in the controller are from sensors separate from the controller are. so there is unlikely to be a need for pointing the tv at the screen. I may be mistaken though.
  15. Zelda Revolution Idea

well maybe not the link example, as link is nintendo's. but you could copyright the concept. ie flash backs. obviously you'd need to have it specific enough to specify a particular idea clearly, but you'd also need it to be an idea that can be applied to a wide variety of situations. the example you used for example "the players character meets an npc (non player character) within the game environment. the player interacts with the npc, the game then flashes to a recalled memory. the player plays through this past memory, learning a new skill, perfecting a new skill, or recalling information that aides the story progression, ie meeting a character and then following them to a location. the play then returns to the current time, and the character is able to utilise the new skill or information." good luck, although I think you definetly need it, especially if you actually want the game to feature Link. just read your last post now, I think its a great idea being able to have "lucid memories", but actually actively help you (such as your tree example), rather than regular memories that can only passively help you. the problem is (not being a great Zelda fan I can't say 100% as I haven't played oot or mm) it sounds like the play mechanic is only subtley different to those already used by nintendo, so nintendo would easily get round it by pointing to mm and oot as examples of the time mechanic, going back in time to allow moving forward. another thing, I personally don't like the idea of copyrighting game concepts, as (imo) it will stunt gaming. its good from the rubbish clone protection p.o.v though.
  16. No HD? Oh well...

you know tbh I thought nintendo were initially going to support upto 720p. anyway, off that, I think launch titles for the 360 will suck for SD, if enough SD owners purchase 360 then mid terms games may also have a setting to switch down to 480 resolution. then at the end of the generation it will probably have higher requirements (like GC games that only supported 60Hz in Pal regions) basically games will get too big near the end of the 360's life to support multiple resolutions, and launch titles will be too rushed to bother with SD support. of course they may just be too lazy/not see the need to include SD support in mid gen, so we may see a lack of visual quality in all/the majority of 360 games. only time will tell.
  17. No HD? Oh well...

people saying games on the 360 will look great on regular tv's as well, the review posted said there wasn't really a noticeable difference. looking at RE4 I imagine an 800 Mhz GPU would be adequate for next gen (ignoring HDTV). the only way to justify anything significantly faster would be HDTV, and next gen where does it go then? 2160p? I see nothing with 480i for tv. I can appreciate perhaps having a 40+" screen with 1080p for films, but in a game the graphics don't matter that much. the biggest screen I'll be getting in the foreseeable future would be a 42" screen, and it more than like won't be 720/1080, I've seen SD tv images on HD tv screens, not impressed, not as in there's no improvement, thats a no brainer, but because the image looked worse. HDTV just isn't standard yet. if I was in America the situation may well be different
  18. No HD? Oh well...

do you think the xbox really helped online infrastructure accelerate to a point where it is now ready for online gaming this gen? it helped, but not greatly. infact personally I think it won't be ready for another couple of years even now. its at a stage where mediocre use can be well supported. imo. I think the PS3 supporting Hi Def will help more. and the 360 not supporting 1080p when they've pushed HD seems pretty retarded to me. I assume thats a typo on the site I read it on though. I think the 360 will push developers into the next generation, but its too early, to harsh a push, and I think it will suffer from that.
  19. well, maybe not white, but since coke dissolves teeth, I guess it could clean them (as long as the sugar is properly washed away). however if you cleaned you teeth that way you'd probably have reason to be concerned for your digestive tract. also, vitamins that are formed artificially are slightly different, the orientation is wrong. its a bit like the difference between a 'd; and a 'b' and a 'p' same basic shape, but rotated in different ways. if you remember (or have done) enzyme theory you'll probably be able to figure out how such a difference could affect what such vitamins do. too much calcium makes bones brittle. obviously too little makes them soft. if you have too much calcium your body has to get rid of it, because it screws up ph and all sorts. so it deposits it in the bone. its like drinking too much water can kill you, because 1)rinses out important salts 2)tissue absorbs liquid, brain bloats, brain haemorages. basic wisdom, moderation is the key, and having a balanced diet. the more varied your diet the healthier you are generally. so its probably a good idea to try foods from different countries, be adventurous etc etc.
  20. Australia's going to the World Cup!

hmm, enough Australia bashing :/ I actually like Australians. its cool they are in the world cup, and I'd like England to meet up with Australia, simply because I think (and hope) it would be a nice atmosphere. They aren't fans. They are a good argument for 1)cutting off government benefits and allowances (particularly the dole) 2)moving to a different country 3)investigate eugenics they're shameful. Even the good fans aren't particularly great. I mean, take Irish fans, When they beat England, they weren't happy England had been beaten, they were happy their team had won. Ok I'm sure being England made it a bit better, but it makes a big difference
  21. just did some quick maths, and I found the revolution will be about 13 times smaller in volume than the xbox 360. at face value that could suggest the revolution will be 13 times weaker than the 360. however, it could alternatively suggest the revolution is 13 times more efficient in using its space (look at the cube vs the xbox), or more likely a mixture of the two. concept: a machine twice the power would need 4 times the size, so that would reduce the 360 to just over 3 times as powerful as the revolution. this is assuming the more powerful processor would need correspondingly more powerful cooling system, which would take more room. the 4 times the size figure may be significantly smaller, or significantly larger, it was plucked out of the air to suggest a point.
  22. 13 time weaker than the xbox360?

if I had said that the xbox was 7 times bigger than the revolution, therefore the revolution was going to be 7 times weaker than the xbox, you'd have yourself a point. I didn't. you don't. take your own advice.
  23. 13 time weaker than the xbox360?

yes, because super computers used the same level of technology as the next gen consoles have available. a more logical mock would be saying blue gene is obviously less powerful than the 360 and PS3 and revolution will be. except (unless you believe sony) blue gene being a super computer kinda implies it may be more powerful than a games console.
  24. 13 time weaker than the xbox360?

thats kinda the point I was trying badly to make. I was thinking about the people pointing out how much bigger the 360 is compared to the revolution, and saying that shows how much more powerful it is. I compared actual sizes, 360 is just under 8 times bigger than the revolution, possibly more. 3.2 Ghz/ 8 = 400Mhz. thats less than the cubes power. Out of interest, how big is the PS3? from what I've found on the net its slightly smaller than the 360 (under 6 times bigger than the revolution) PS3 about 6.1 cubic metres (142% PS2 size) XBOX360 about 8.3 cubic metres (107% xbox size) revolution about 1.1 cubic metres. (41% cube size) for comparison, cube is around 2.7 cubic metres, xbox 7.7 cubic metres and the PS2 (original) 4.3 cubic metres. by the way, my maths sucks, I know
  25. Revolution to be cheapest next-gen console

I will be buying the revolution primarily for back catalogue, then for the interesting controller, then because its small, then because of built in Lan ability. if its cheapest then cool, if it has an awesome catalogue of new games excellent, if it has a perfect online system great. but those things won't decide whether I buy it, if they influence anything it would be when I buy it. (ie how many price drops do I wait for) DVD, Online capability and the built in flash memory aren't selling points for me (although the flash memory is being used for back catalogue, in which case you can choose to add that on)
