Just got back from the film and I absolutely loved it. GOF is my favourite of the books, and I wasn't expecting the film to do it justice at all, but I'm pleased to say it did. Good pacing, and just the right amount of seriousness (e.g. reaction to Cedric dying) and comedy (Hagrid touching up Madame Maxime; Moaning Myrtle, etc.). Best film of the yeare so far for me. I agree with CompSci that Dumbledore just wasn't right in the film, though. He's a bit too grumpy for my liking - I just picture him being how he looks on the back of the first book - kindly and endearing, yet wise.

Glad to hear that Mario Smash Football and Pokémon XD are being advertised, even though I don't expect to ever see the ads. I'll be getting Pokémon for Christmas, but I don't have any plans to get Mario Football - I'm not into football at all, and the game just doesn't look as fun as Mario Tennis and Golf - two games that I enjoyed despite not having any interest in the sport normally. I must say I love the artwork for Mario Smash Football, though - it makes a change from the same old CG images we get of the characters all the time. In fact, the wallpaper on my mobile phone is of Waluigi's face from the Mario Football artwork.

Zelda: Twilight Princess Discussion (SPOILERS: BEWARE)
Mike replied to EchoDesiato's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I played the demo a couple of months ago. I can't really comment on the graphics, because the screen I was playing it on was really bad, and I could hardly see what I was doing, but it still played well. I spent most of my time in the village part of the game, where I rescued a cat, swam in the lake, smashed a bee hive and had a short go at rounding up the cattle (which I gave up on because it was pretty difficult, and I wanted to explore the village a bit more!), then I had quick go on the horseback swordfighting section, which was again pretty fun, but I couldn't really see what I was doing. If you've got any specific questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them! -
I really enjoyed the new series, which was the first Doctor Who I'd ever watched. I've since tried to watch some of the old episodes on UK Gold and just ended up getting bored. I can't wait for the new series, although I'm not sure I like the new Cybermen design - I prefer their old, more featureless faces.

Yeah, I'm getting that too.

Exclusive FPS for Revolution by UBISoft!!
Mike replied to Shaolins_finest's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Although this would be great news if it were true, it's only a rumour so far, and I think it would be sensible to wait for an announcement from Ubisoft itself. -
Quite a good issue this month, IMO. It was nice to read an actual review of Mario Kart rather than all the previews we've been getting recently, although it does seem like they haven't tried the game out online, as none of the limitations were mentined.

Nice idea, but it looks a bit too much of a quick 'cut and paste' job to me. 5/10 -
Brilliant scores for Kirby and Mario Kart. Kirby certainly deserves it, and I hope I'll agree that MK does too. I'll look out for the magazine in the shops tomorrow.

Ha! If only.. If there's one thing that Nintendo's bad at, it's listening to what its supporters want (well, except in the case of Twilight Princess, of course ). Nintendo thinks it knows what we want, and I wouldn't be surprised if it sticks with the same formula for all DS games. I just hope the Revolution will be different.

An interesting interview - good find! I don't believe for a second that Europe may get the Revolution before Japan and the US, though. We're lucky if we get even a couple of games per year before another territory at the moment. Can't wait to get some more concrete details on the Revolution, though - it can sometimes be hard to believe a lot of things said in interviews like this, what with Nintendo changing its mind and putting back release dates all the time.

Was it the same bloke playing Jigsaw in both films?

I rented out the first one on video over summer and quite enjoyed it, and tonight I went to see the sequel. I really enjoyed it, actually, even though I guessed a few things that would happen. The only problem was that I couldn't remember what happened at the end of the first film, which led to very slight confusion in this one - so can anyone remind me how Saw 1 ended?
-
I quite enjoyed Episode III, but fell asleep halfway through Episode IV, which is the only other one I've tried watching. I don't really see why it's so popular..
-
Not sure about my absolute favourite episode, but in my opinion, 'Cape Fear', 'Brother From Another Series', 'You Only Move Twice' and 'Summer of 4 Feet 2' are all excellent. However, the show started getting stale late season 8 / early season 9, which now means there have been more episodes from bad seasons than good seasons - and it looks like they're keeping on milking it for all it's worth. At least with Futurama they cancelled it before it got too bad (although there was a definite drop in quality in season 4, IMO).

Apart from the fact that many XBox / Playstation fans will say this is Nintendo admitting that their machine is the weakest, it really wouldn't bother me if the stats weren't announced. Like many other people have said, I don't understand them at all, anyway.

New Revolution information! Confirmed by Jim Merrick of NoE
Mike replied to Domstercool's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Since when have we been able to believe Nintendo regarding release dates? I'll believe that 14 week thing when it happens, but even then, I'd still prefer a simultaneous launch. The rest of the news is good, though. I'm a bit sceptical about the one-disc multiplayer for Revolution, it has to be said. If it does happen, it's sure to be with a lot of features taken out (like only being able to play a few tracks and only playing as Shy Guy in single cart Mario Kart DS). -
Edge Issue 156! write-up of Revo Pad - A MUST READ
Mike replied to Britprog's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I had a dream last night that I was looking for this issue of EDGE, and when I eventually found it in a shop it was in a resealable plastic bag. I didn't want to buy it, so I started to read it in the shop, but then I woke up. Weird. -
I couldn't agree more. Jungle Beat is one of my favourite GameCube titles.

Interesting interview, although I don't like the idea of having to pay to play some Revolution games online, after everything Nintendo's said in the past about making online gaming free. At least Nintendo seem confident about succeeding. Let's just hope they actually go all out on marketing the Revolution rather than just sitting back and saying, 'we know what everyone wants - and that's us, because we cater for everybody'.

How irritating that there's no Mario Kart review! I still don't know why they've delayed it over here. Very annoying.

Get your Mario GameCube controller while there's still some left!
-
I think they made a mistake with the number of Mario controllers they said they had today. I was on the site as the stars catalogue was being updated, and there were only 50 (at 5000 stars, for the person who wanted to know).

Wow some impressive arguments here: 'French sucks!' Being able to speak a foreign language can really improve your job prospects nowadays, you know, and having lived in France for nine months, I can confidently say that the rumour that 'they all speak English anyway' is completely untrue.
