  1. good stuff thread.

You don't win friends with grammar...
  2. Same-Sex Marriage

I'm not against it, but i do see where the opposition is coming from. I see it like a little playground club at school or something. Geeks only or whatever. And then you accept a cool kid. And then his girlfriend. All of a sudden the club is not the same and can't fundamentally have the same values it had in the beginning. Is this a bad thing? No, not really, but it does require a change. I guess from their side they think, why should we change - if we change now for homosexuals, what happens in the future when the next unlikely candidates want to marry? It's all a bit of a joke. I personally don't think much of marriage. Most people just do it for the sake of it anyway. Making it official and what have you. No religious belief in it or anything. Yeah, great. Official legal ties and faked faith. That's what we all want! Sign us up!
  3. Please help stop a 5% increase in beer duty

And they all taste the same and have like 3% alcohol or less!!! Perfect for three things - toasting, drinking games and destroying your bladder!
  4. The Wrasslin' thread

I'm also loving the Rock being back. I have watched RAW every week since he came back. Works on me! I loved the history lessons and the rock concert was legendary. I do agree it is not the best build up for a fight though. It is funny and i love it, but they really need to use the last few weeks now to build up tension. They are both talking smack and not physically retaliating in any way, so they need to sort that out, without giving too much of the Rock's ability away (though we know he's still got it!). Motivation behind the fight is lacking. Why is Rock even facing Cena? Just sick of him being the face of WWE? It needs more substance if it wants to avoid an anti-climax. Having said that, it is quite nice to see some quality entertainment back on the show. It brought me back that's for sure. There's no-one like the Rock
  5. Twitter

I'm slowing getting more interested in Twitter, even though i still don't quite get it! Anyways, you can follow me. My profile is: Jav_NE It will encourage me to use it more if i have more followers i'm sure. I will get around to following others on here too when not at work.
  6. MGS: Snake Eater 3D (£9.95 @Zavvi)

I've never been a fan of stealth games, i think the only one i ever enjoyed was Chronicles of Riddick some years back. I tried the demo though to give it a chance, but it turns out my opinion hasn't changed. Fiddly, annoying gameplay and terribly old-fashioned sound effects was my first thought. Camera movement wasn't fun (i dont have CPP) and i found it all very misguided and amatuer. The map was shocking too - why no entry-point arrow for reference? I think the most fun part was shooting the bee hive by the bridge, but even that was a pain. The menu system is very confusing and user unfriendly i found. I'm sure i picked up a sniper scope for example, but it was nowhere to be selected. The phases also last too long. 90 seconds for alert, okay that's fine, another 90 odd seconds for evasion? Aaaand another 90 odd seconds to get back to normal? There's no need for that. I think it is just me though. I get very impatient with these games and ultimately end up doing something stupid which gets me spotted and eventually killed. Not fun. I won't be buying. Graphics were nice for the most part though. I did enjoy the 3D effect of the surrounding grass and trees coming out at me as I walked by.
  7. Mario Kart 7

Sometimes that is the only solution if you are well in the lead, but the cheating AI will normally be quite close behind no matter how far ahead you should be so a blue shell near the end of the 3rd lap is pretty much devastating. 2nd lap is okay. I am super happy right now though as i finally did it! 3-starred every cup The Retro cups were really easy actually, i did them all first time. Weird how it can turn around like that. Maybe i am just better at the retro cups, though i like to think i have gotten better in general. Best thing is i dont have to think about being screwed by the CPU anymore - i'm free!!! I can play for fun again!
  8. Moving House

Yay! Enjoy sunny bournemouth. The first thing you should do is get a whippy ice cream and watch the sea, even if it is freezing cold.
  9. Terra Nova (TV Show)

Aw man, that does suck a little tiny bit. It got alot better towards the end, and i would have liked to have seen how it developed based on the final episode.
  10. Mario Kart 7

Yeah i figured as much. When i see a CPU kart with a blue shell i slam on the brakes and pray 2nd place overtakes me before they launch it now. I find it hard to take down others with me though if it does still gun for me - need to get better at that. Seems to be helping though in general! I have managed to 3-star all cups except the Mirror retro cups now
  11. Super Mario 3D Land

I got bored on the Luigi play-throughs. I also died more than 5 times on one level i'm sure, so that screws up the shiny stars for me. Not too fussed, but it does hinder my motivation to get it completely finished. I think going back to it later will make it more fun as someone said - give it that fresh feeling again. I think the last thing i did was max out my lives. That was fun. Poor koopa troopa had a proper head-bashing for a good 10 minutes
  12. Mario Kart 7

Star cup is still screwing me. I tried it a few times on my lunch break and just laughed at how madeningly unfair it was. I've been trying the break-to-avoid-bluey thing, but so many times i have dropped into 2nd and still been hit by it. I know you have to drop back in good time, which i did, i couldn't even hear it coming a few times, yet it still honed in on me. Do you have to drop back before it is even launched?! Blue shells are just half the problem though as others have said. Computer karts just cheat like hell. They recover insanely fast, they keep up with you no matter if you are having a perfect race and taking shortcuts. It's one bitch of a challenge! I'm sure Mirror is harder than 150CC as well.
  13. GAME Group what next?

I dunno, i quite liked popping in after school/work and picking up a game i had pre-ordered. I'm a big sentimental softie. Ordering online is so heartless and unmemorable. Such is the future.
  14. GAME Group what next?

I guess they won't be stocking Kid Icarus either? *sigh*
  15. [Spoiler-Free] Zelda: Skyward Sword

I did break one shield at one point in the game. I think it was in the desert with those spiny snail things that ram you. I was having too much fun stunning them and totally forgot about the shield health guage. Was a nasty reminder when it smashed, but it did make me appreciate my shields from then on!
  16. Mario Kart 7

I 3-starred the first 2 Mirror cups last night. Nearly blew my top doing it as well. I tried the Star cup a few times but i got too angered by the injustice of it all and called it quits. I will get there... one day... maybe... if i don't die from stress-induced road-rage.
  17. 3DS StreetPass Plaza

Damn, i should have gone too! That is some juicy streepassing. Where are all these people hiding during normal days?!
  18. Mario Party 9

Yeah i got it from ShopTo. Good service. I like how they send you a picture of your parcel on dispatch - a nice touch! Only played one session of this last night with the missus. She won, as always, since she has tremdous good luck. I swear, she is luckiest person ever, everything goes her way when we play Mario Party! And she loves to rub it in as well. Ah well, we had some fun. I'm not sure if i like the new style of play yet. It seems very difficult to turn events in your favour, even with the extra dice. I felt considerably less in control of my character's fate than usual, which i'm not sure is good overall. I dont like having too much decided by chance. This is just my initial opinion though. It may be that's just the way the first board played out. The minigames seemed a little tougher too compared with the norm. We had some memory games which were pretty rough and tricky to win at, so that was good and stressful all at the same time. I already found a game i hate though. It was some stupid door one where you have to guess which door to enter to go down to the next level. I was using my strategy of watching others as well as my own attempts to see what doors were the right ones, but i just seemed to get stuck which frustrated the hell out of me! I swear those doors were lying. First impressions are average then. Minigames for the most part were good, boss battles were pretty cool, the board was okay but the new format hasn't won me over yet. It's the little things too, like how you get to choose the minigame now out of a choice. I loved the randomness of it before. I guess it will be good when you know all the games by name as it will cause some arguments to break out depending which game the captain picks, but i dont know, change is never easy. Hitting the dice doesn't feel that satisfying either, I know that is a minor element, but i do miss the weighty feel it had in previous games. Further playing is needed to really 'get' it then, and i do hope it wins me over in the long run.
  19. GAME Group what next?

I just thought how badly it would have affected me as a kid. I couldn't buy stuff online without a card, and my parents never would do it for me as they dont trust it (shocking, i know).
  20. Mario Kart 7

The N64 one had serious player 2 catch-up in multiplayer. Me and my brother would always play it and noticed it a million times. You can feel how much faster it is when you're lagging behind, likewise how you get a little more sluggish in the lead. It is only slight, but it is noticeable when you've played it to death.
  21. What Have You Bought?

    Hasn't arrived yet
  22. Weight Loss & Fitness 2012

I hate the gym. I hate running. The only thing i like to do to keep fit is sports, but it is hard to organise. I really want to start playing badminton again, but i have to get a leisure card for the local sports centre, and book a court, and convince a mate to play. I'm too lazy for all of those things. Am making some progress though - 2 mates agreed to play at our last pub meeting. Might just be drunken talk though. If anyone lives in brum/sutton coldfield and wants to join me though, then let me know (thinking of playing at Wyndley Sports Center).
  23. Pets are funnies

Bit morbid, but if your cat died, would you get a new one? We had a family cat for about 19 years. He was called Jasper and he was amazing. He lived such a long life and i literally grew up with him as we got him just before i was born. It has been 7 years now since he died. I dont even have a picture of him online anywhere Sometimes we think about getting a new cat, but my mom refuses. My sister ending up getting one though from her husband so i guess we all kind of adopt her and go a bit crazy when we get to see her. She is super cute, called a variety of names (Pudz and Pudster seem to have caught on the most!).
