  1. Sonic And The Secret Rings

The jury's still out for me on this one.. I wanted to like it so much, but I'm yet to get over the initial stages of slowness and awkward control. The look of the game is mesmerisingly gorgeous at times.. I'm particularly taken with Levitated Ruin! Wish the music had been more in the vein of classic Sonic - something with a bit more character and intricacy, and more tailored to the fairytale setting would have been preferable. Comically-generic 'angst-rock' really isn't my thing.
  2. Virtual Console - All you need to know

Don't be taken in by the cool name and dashing looking bloke on the boxart - SoV is actually a steaming turd of a game. It's just a very primitive and semi-broken rpger. Wait for something more worthwhile like Shining Force!
  3. Segas Secret Title...

I agree. I hate all this ridiculously overblown 'pre-hype'. They get us all worked up in a frenzy of speculative fantasy and then announce some flacid piece of shit. If it isn't Shenmue or Nights or maybe Shinobi then it will only cause greater disappointment. Please be Nights! Pleeease!
  4. ExciteTruck

Fantatic game! SO underrated. In my view the graphics are gorgeous too, especially when you get thrown really high and see the vast terrain stretch out before you. Can't wait to unlock super excite!
  5. Sonic And The Secret Rings

Well done to Sega for such a tight release of this in all territories! Other companies (Konami and Nintendo I'm looking at you) could learn from this.
  6. Virtual Console - All you need to know

Matt is right. The vc games are too expensive (even more so here than in the US). The price has made even a rabid retro junky like me hold off on all but the most essential titles. If they were more reasonable I'd have bought far more (and prob ended up spending more overall). I'm sure Ninty will lower the prices in good time. Certainly if they want to shift some of the more obscure and so-so titles they'll have to do this.
  7. Where will gaming go now the Wii is released?

There'll be no going back from here. I see the Wii as a tryout, if you like, for the true next generation - ie greater involvement and interaction with the gaming environment. Mere button bashing won't be enough anymore. Nintendo need to show the Wii's true colours tho if they're to convince people of this. In a sense it's a shame that, in recovering from the (reletive) disappointment of the gamecube, Nintendo had to tread cautiously with their hardware.. but even so, the Wii is capable of much more.
  8. Capcom says Wii is for kids!

Hear hear!! This comment from capcom surprises me really. I didn't think they would be so shallow and close minded about the nature of videogames. Wait until Resi Wii is phenomenally successful and then they'll have to rethink! Honestly, some people can't see past the end of their nose.
  9. ExciteTruck

Sounds like plenty to me. Can't wait for my first wii racer!!!
  10. Are you happy with your Wii?

Ditto I'm pretty damn happy with my Wii, all told. So far I only have Zelda, Red Steel, but they've both been fab. And I play WiiSports practically every day! Can't wait for things to really get going.
  11. Virtual Console - All you need to know

Oh god, just got Zelda II. Never played it before. It's so lame! Love the music tho. Had to satisfy my curiosity.
  12. Julian Eggebrecht: Wii developers are sloppy

It's either a case of: a) developers being cautious in their first batch of releases - often ports or rehashes (Prince of Persia is just a joke!) or b) the 'novelty' value of the wii control (which is basically the only real selling point of the console right now) allowing dev teams to be lazy. The worrying thing for me is that if third parties see that hastily thrown together low budget games sell, this trend may continue, while they pour all of their effort and resources into expansive hi-def titles. The fact that Nintendo themselves seem happy to coast along for a while also makes me anxious.. come on guys bring on the big guns!! If wii games don't start to get a little more ingenious in their graphics routines, then in, say, 18 months time it'll look like a cheapo pile of shit compared to the others. Sonic and Mario Galaxy look superb - hopefully a small taste of things to come. And no, I'm not a graphics whore. I just hate seeing the huge potential of the wii go to waste.
  13. Who is the most annoying games character?

Prince Tricky in Star Fox Adventures
  14. Sonic And The Secret Rings

Wow, this game is looking better and better! Can't wait to play Pirate Storm.
  15. Official Issues and Problems Thread

Thanks guys. It's hard to make sense of some of some of the more hysterically negetive views on this forum. As soon as I find one, I'll go for it.
  16. Virtual Console - All you need to know

MK64 would be most welcome. But to tell the truth, I'm really pining after Lylat Wars..
  17. The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess

ALTTP does indeed rock. And he's right in the sense that it did set a structural template for the series. But, you'd have to have no 'soul' whatsoever to overlook what OOT brought to the table. Namely, a sense of 'wonder', of space, of visual exploration. It sounds ridiculous but it's true! With Ocarina the series went from being an excellently designed and characterised, but fairly schematic top-down adventure, to an 'experience' - the sunsets, the feeling of riding Epona across vast expanses, the immense battles - this was perhaps the most significant change of all! OOT was truly pioneering in this respect, and it's all to easy now to take this for granted. Incidently, isn't it fairly obvious that MM is a very different and inventive Zelda title?? (especially in its stucture) TP was perhaps a little stale (or a refinement of an already excellent formula, depending on how you look at it). Hopefully the new Zelda will be very different.. 1st person, more interactivity, different story, orchestral score? Bring it on!!
  18. The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess

Just for the record, I actually think motion2000 has many valid points when it comes to TP. So I'm not about to claim that he's just contrary for the sake of it.
  19. Official Issues and Problems Thread

I've had an official RGB scart cable for about a month now, and it is much better than the awful composite - why they still bundle the console with the same connectors we were using back in the megadrive days bewilders me! But I'm thinking about getting a component one, as my tv does have the relevant inputs and I've seen how good it can make dvds look. Is it worth it?? Some people here seem to be claiming that component makes it look worse..?
  20. The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess

"Abandoning responsibilities"!! Oh god, you make it sound like you want him to become some kind of retro 50s homemaker. Admittedly, the TP Link does seem rather softgrained and vacuous. Personally, I'm glad he went off to pursue a life of adventure, rather than become a provincial domestic goddess. If only we'd had more of a sense of his character developing thru the story (or indeed any at all) this might have been more convincing.
  21. Virtual Console - All you need to know

Well, I'm certainly no Sony fan (hate the bastards!), but you have to admit that the price they are asking for the PS3 is a good deal for the hardware you're getting. There's no doubt that Ninty are making a HUGE profit on the Wii.. And yes, it would be entirely possible for them to lower the VC prices a little. I'm sure they will in time.
  22. Super Paper Mario

Ooooooo, can't wait to see some new shots!!
  23. The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess

The ending signifies that the innocent homely Link of Ordon is no more. He's outgrown his quaint little village, restlessly hungering for further adventure. This is a good ending (albeit a bit too vague), much better than just going back home to herd goats and iron his tunic. It's tinged with regret tho (Ilia). Plus he's lost his Midna I agree. They're more like variations on a theme - legends retold. Nintendo like to tease us with references and continuity issues, but there's no sense in getting too anal about a fixed 'timeline'. Everyone wants a very linear, schematic sense of 'plot' these days, but that's not the way Zelda works.
  24. The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess

Thanks for clearing that up Dante. I'd have thought it was fairly obvious that the Gerudo can't be the Twili though. I know the discussion you quote says it's best to ignore the symbology, but I have to say I think it's one of the most interesting aspects.. the Fused Shadows and the transformations they bring about in Midna are strikingly reminiscent of Majora's Mask.. perhaps a clue to the identity of this mysterious ‘tribe’..
