  1. This is downright weird.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited we finally have a confirmation on the release, but a March release is extremely weird. Some have pointed out that this is when handhelds are traditionally released, but we're definitely getting something new as our home consoles. I mean, they've slowed down Wii U production rapidly, haven't they?

Super weird that they're missing out on the Christmas window, but then again, that slot has arguably been taken up by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Pokémon Sun and Moon, so really I think it's good business on their behalf. Why go head-on with the updated PS4K/4.5 and XBOX consoles, who are guaranteed to sell third party games that you may have got your hands on, if people already had the other consoles? Plus arguably the largest handheld game release and movie releases of the year?

Stranger yet that we're only getting Zelda at E3. That's bizarre.

EDIT: and wait, so NX is the official title of this thing?

  2. The trailer...was genuinely a little bit better. I was going to see it anyway, but I was getting X-Men 3 vibes before. Not so much now.

Glad Wolverine is finally confirmed for this film, as is Magneto being Quicksilver's father in this universe. Hopefully they don't show too much in upcoming TV spots.

  3. Why not get regular seats?

Local cinemas generally don't have any VIP seats. Personally I only care about having seats in the middle.

Ah, my Odeon does (it's still like a 40 minute walk away, but about 10 or 15 minutes in a car). And yeah, I totally care about getting seats in the middle.

But for some reason you can't book a seat unless it's VIP/Premier, and VIP>>>>>>>Premier and is what, 50p more? Odeon just blows my mind in their own little nonsensical ways.

  4. Supposed to be seeing this on Friday evening after a week of hardcore revision, BUT...

My local Odeon STILL HAS NOT PUT UP ANY TIMES WITH VIP SEATED SCREENS (a standard we are sticking to after we fell in love with it at TFA, I mean the film probably helped but) F*** YOU ODEON

I've emailed them twice and they said they'll let me know as soon as they're up, BUT, I have a feeling I should still check daily anyhow.

    Bleugh...

  5. That. Sounds. Awesome!

you were right next to Aquaman!

Never been to a convention before myself, but I'm debating as to whether or not I should go to Star Wars Celebration in London for a day in July.

  6. Jumping to conclusions a little, judging Capaldi on just one episode? How can you say the rest are better just on that?

    I think he's a bloody brilliant Doctor.

And they addressed the regenerations thing in the episode where Matt Smith regenerated into him.

(Haven't had the chance to watch the new companion clip yet)

    Well, slight understatement.

I watched about seven episodes I think, and have watch bits here and there, he just really hasn't sold me on it.

  7. Wow, this show has gone down hill...

Look, entertainment is subjective and all, BUT, David Tennant, Matt Smith and and Ecclestone were all better than Peter Capaldi is it? Don't quote me on that, not touched the series since the first episode with the newest incarnation of the Doctor.

The 12th but really 13th Doctor. It's hard to wonder how they're going to retcon his whole "12 regenerations, 13 lives" thing.

    Unless that's already been sorted?

  8. New JasonBourne trailer out today.

Very disappointed. There doesn't seem to be a story... Jason Bourne remembers more and wants vengeance. Good on you Jason, we got there in Ultimatum. Also as I said before, it doesn't seem to be filmed in that gritty Bourne way the trilogy was known for. This looks far more Hollywood in its presentation.

Eh...I've got to agree. It just doesn't feel like a Bourne film. Yet.

    But this looks GREAT

  9. I think it depends what kind of learner you are. I do better with repetition so I tended to just write the same thing over and over again until it lodged in my brain. Mnemonics work well too.

I use Anki for language learning as it lets you build flashcards. Sometimes the process of that (thinking of the question/area, finding a suitable related picture etc) helps lodge it in as well.

What kind of subjects are you taking?

Yeah...I'm not too sure what kind of learner I am yet. Currently, I'm completing packs for each subject where I've pooled all of the information together and will be doing 24 hours+ of past papers a week.

And AS Mathematics, Philosophy and Accounting exams are the ones I've got coming up, as well as an internal Physics exam.

trying to not go down the route of failure is really making me think about the possibility of failure

  10. Willem Dafoe has been cast for the Justice League movies, The Hollywood Reporter confirms

According to them, he'll be playing a good guy. Martiam Manhunter? An older Green Lantern? So many ways this could go!

but first Simmons and now Dafoe. Snyder really loved the casting in Raimi's Spider-Man films, huh?

  11. Still got goosebumps while watching it on Blu-ray even though I saw it twice at the cinema.

On third viewing, just as good as the first time. I appeciated the music and sound effects a lot more, some of the music seemed to get drowned out at the cinema. Rey's theme is fantastic.

Saving the special features for tomorrow and then probably end up watching it again.

Agreed, a fantastically put together film worthy of many repeat viewings. Many came out originally saying that John Williams had really missed the mark with the score of this film, which has since been falsified by them themselves, and whether or not that's down to the noisy nature of the cinema or the film being that intriguing that you blank out the music, I'm not sure. But the best scores, I think, are the ones which you don't really take in, or even acknowledge - I think that's how you know when it's been put together really well.

Now, quick personal story. I'm 17 now, and I've been watching Star Wars since I was very little. We all have similar stories about how great the franchise is, but I'd just like to share this.

I grew up with the prequels, and yes, as a younger member of the fans I LOVED the films, well, minus AOTC which I didn't see until much later due to an ensemble of reasons. Revenge of the Sith? My bread and butter. These films really pushed a Shakespearean look on literature into my life, and it's really influenced a lot of my writing and speech, as well as the way I act.

But anyhow, I saw the original trilogy, and while being intrigued...meh. I was too young to take them for what they were, and they were the original VHS copies. And yes, I had a film missing this time too - Empire, gosh darn!

So, leading up to The Force Awakens, this was the most hyped I'd ever been for a film, and I even got up at 3am in the morning to watch the final trailer for English-speaking regions, when the trailer was dropping on Monday Night Football over in America. I got really choked up.

Now, I saw this film five times in cinemas alone, and I had never before seen a movie more than once in the cinema (since then, I've added BvS to that list, for a massive list of reasons, but namely Batman and the score. Yeah, let's stay away from that altogether..), so this was a MASSIVE deal for me, and is testament as to how much I loved the film.

In my 16 years 358 days leading up to my opening night viewing (an approximation), I'd never before cried at a movie. Ever. Hachi's Tale? Nope. Titanic? Nope. The Blind Side? Nope. Etc. Etc. Heck, before I was into Star Wars and before I could even speak I watched Toy Story at least twice every day (this rubbed off on my little brother who had the same pre-toddler experience with another Pixar work, Cars, ironically a film we saw the month of his birth), and then Toy Story 2 too? But I didn't shed a tear at Toy Story 3, primed as I was, though that trilogy will always hold a special place in my heart.

I cried five times on my first viewing of The Force Awakens. Lucasfilm logo shined off, no Fox fanfare, 'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...'. The piece KICKED in and damn, I was crying my eyes out, I was euphoric.

Then, later, when Leia met up with Han I cried again, perhaps due to a reflection of my personal life and how it was unfolding and unraveling in a sense.

After that? The scene with Kylo and Han. Yeah, it got me. Real hard.

Then, later still, when Leia hugged Rey - didn't work for everyone, but it did for me. They were the two loneliest people there, I mean, come on!

And then, finally, up the Jedi Steps...damn that music, spine-tingling. I sat there for two or three minutes with a grin from ear to ear, and as soon as we see Luke's back, I'm crying again, so happily. And then the music kicks in again.

    BOOM

So yeah, I massively digressed. Sorry about that. But that's something I've rarely shared, it shattered all expectations for me that opening night, and it was the first time I EVER walked out of a screening and wanted to talk right back in to see it all again.

My ranking of Star Wars films goes:

    7) Attack of the Clones

    6) The Phantom Menace

    5) Revenge of the Sith

But, may I add, a very, very small gap between 5 and 4...

    4) Return of the Jedi

A massive gap between 4 and my joint 2nd...

2 - A New Hope (and I LOVE this film more and more every time I see it, it constantly switches with my number 2...)

    2 - The Force Awakens

    1) The Empire Strikes Back

  12. Whoa, some of those IMAX screens are completely ridiculous.

It's weird how there's going to be another live action Jungle Book in just two years.

Well, isn't it closer to two and a half? I have a feeling Serkis' is in the latter stages of 2018...and apparently, because money, Disney are looking at the possibility of a sequel. If they confirm this and move ahead with it in the next year or so, Serkis' personal project could go under unless there's something special about his version. I mean, he's the mo-cap king, but...

Would be such a shame all things considered. Bale, Cumberbatch, Naomie Harris and Cate Blanchett, as well as being directed by and starring Serkis as Baloo?

  13. I was considering purchasing it today but I realised how dull the film was. I was actually surprised that they didn't have a midnight launch or that I wasn't harassed by several customers at 6am. In fact someone told me we had sold three copies by 9am.

Apart from it being boring I've held off on investing as I'm just going to wait until the box set comes out. Because you know there will be a new one with each new release, which you'll no doubt be proud of when you look at it on your shelf until the next one comes out a year later:

    Episode VII

    Episode VII and Rogue One

    Episode VIII

    Episode VIII and Episode VII

Episode VIII and Episode VII and Rogue One

Having Episode VII and VIII together and then IX separately?! SIGN MY ANUS UP.

And so on, it's like what they did with the Hunger Games. Whoever bought the set that had the first film, second film and the first part of the third film needed their head examining.

Might happen separately with the Star Wars Story films and the Saga films with dual release, I'll probably invest in either a special case or trilogy box set once all is said and done.

But I highly doubt they're going to cross the saga films over with the Star Wars Story films for box sets.

  14. My point was that we actually don't know what happened, she may have sent Kylo away, but maybe she blames luke for what happened. We don't know. Her not being there creates questions as to why. Which is always good in films; getting audiences to think and discuss.

I was sort of joking about looking at the box :) But hilarious they spoiler it... I guess they presume everyone who cares has already seen it now!

The novelisation is considered canon, as long as the content does not take away or go against that of the film.

It mentions Poe's survival after the crash, Snoke talking a bit more about his origins, and about how Leia sent Kylo away without Han knowing (possibly when he was back on Kashyyyk with Chewie). I mean, he would have been pretty young then too, considering he was born within a year of the Battle of Endor.

And haha, I've got to admit though, the box is very underwhelming!

I don't understand a lot of people's problems with TFA myself though, from Rey beating Kylo to...nope, that's the main one.

  15. No, post process 3d is still shit. I still opt for Imax sometimes because the scteen is still better regardless of number of dimensions. If you have the option for imax 2d, go for that. If not, well 3d doesn't hurt too much except for higher ticket price, but doesn't add anything either. At least you have likely a great film to look forward too, so you might as well make it your first imax experience, so you can see if you like it in general.

The Force Awakens 3D IMAX was beautiful.

Still don't get why major chains in the UK only seem to show IMAX 3D, though.

  16. Rey going to see Luke on her own makes absolutely perfect sense... I don't understand the issue. She's clearly going for a reason, to be trained, or who knows. Also, we don't know what happened in the past, maybe Leia blames luke for Kylo?

Leia not hugging chewie is one of those things which is annoying every time you see it - how did the writers, the director, and uf of the actors not say "hang on!!!".... hope Lucas does a Special Edition and CGs a hug between them......

Amazon, the unbearable company they are, shipped today, rather than sent it FOR today.... Luckily I'm busy all week, but I want to look at the box...

Well, I'm not sure if Leia blames Luke for Kylo exactly.

She's the one who sent him away, at the behest of Han, and that caused the rift amongst the family to grow.

Also, the case is nothing special. And that certain person who appears at the end? They're on the back! (?!)

  17. Can I firstly just say...@Goafer, that's AWESOME!

Oh, and I think I've just rediscovered my long lost confidence (intellectually and morally, perhaps in other senses too) and have reignited my passion to commitment for everything and anything.

Almost 9 months after joining college, failing a bunch of tests and mocks.

1 month from the start of my AS exams.

My fire is lit. 24 hours of past papers a week being my fuel, and my cooling down period being revision upon revision upon revision. Damn, I can do this! i think?

I've had a terrible past 12 months, perhaps even 18. Actually, now I think about it, perhaps much longer. But that's something for the bad stuff thread, which I'll write up after I've done the bulk of my exams.

Oh it's so good to be back in this mindset, where I'm full of glee and energy just because:) my mind is happy, my body is happy, I'M SO READY

    I AM THE NIGHT

    I'M BATMAN
