Reggie: Racing Title for Wii to be Shown at E3
InvaderElmo replied to Stocka's topic in Nintendo Gaming
What I thought was interesting was that Reggie said "That will answer all the questions to how you'll play a racing game." To me this means that it won't be some weird horse racing game or Wave Race, but will include at least cars, perhaps even motorcycles and other things that can race. I think Nintendo's goal with the launch games is to hit each genre and show that they can all be done well with the core controller and the nunchuck. They will have a FPS (Metroid), a fighting game (Smash Bros.), this racing game, some sports games, adventure games, etc. Will there be an RPG? -
I couldn't find the Sadness image on their website, but I have seen the game's title look like that elsewhere (The IGN forums, I think). Maybe they took it down to fix the spelling of the word "coming." Unless, of course, comming is what they meant to say... whatever that means. Excellent website, though.

I almost forgot about two very important titles in my extensive list above: Duck Tales Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the first one, not the arcade one) Oh, and thanks for the info on XCOM. Man I wasted so many hours on that game. I hear there is a "level" editor now, too that lets you tinker with space ship maps and weapon/alien attributes. If they do release it on either Nintendo system (sorry but I don't count GBA) I hope it has the original version along with an "enhanced" version.

So I know that this might not appeal to any of you guys, but I thought of an idea for a new MMO game-thingy: MMO Home Gym 2000!! (or some other more serious name) Bundled with the game: - 2 thin sensors (one for above each ankle) that would be about the size of a longer iPod Nano. They would essentially have all FHC functions but just one button for turning on or something. They would have comfy cloth straps with velcro for easy one-size-fits-all attachment. - 1 headphones + mic + clip that would attach to the shirt of the person. This would be a very light clip, and would be able to communicate position but not direction. The headphones + mic part could be detached if voice chat wasn't wanted, or the entire unit could be optional. **I know, these 3 items + the 2 FHCs = 5 "controllers" but I think the Rev could do it** This game would come in a thicker DVD case (like a box set of TV episodes) that would house the other three components when not in use. This allows them to sit out in plain view with the other DVDs. Game Concept: Convenience- Soccer moms across the world could quickly put on the leg sensors, pick up the FHCs (perhaps put on ankle and wrist weights) and log in to a virtual workout gym. They could do a real-time session with friends or work out with downloaded ghosts of themselves/friends/Richard Simmons etc. The mic clip tracks the torso and the hands and feet are tracked with respect to the torso location. After a quick calibration (touch the floor, hips, shoulders) the system could accurately animate the character. Customized Experience- There would be different "rooms" they could go to- Mushroom Kingdom, Army boot camp, regular looking gyms, mountain vistas, etc. Different people in the same live session could choose to see the room and instructor differently, even the other exercisers (the NPCs) could be turned into koopas or something, who knows. People could customize their own character's looks (like Oblivion) and outfits. It would even be possible to have each song have alternate songs of the same length/speed/beat so that two people are doing the same steps in time with each other, but to different music. If people already own a treadmill they could put down the FHCs (or just jog in place) and go "jogging" with friends through forest paths or famous cities and talk to each other or just listen to music on a virtual iPod. This would also be a great way to get free telephone calls, too, if you don't want to pay the long distance. Motivation/Stat Tracking- Everyone knows it is easier to work out if you have someone there to work out with and who will be upset if you don't show up. If someone doesn't have a specific friend they want to work out with, they could go through some Nintendo sanctioned way of finding a workout buddy. After sessions people could go to lounges or jogging and just talk (if they are "friends"). The game would track calories burned, what types of exercise people like to do, etc. and even suggest other exercises. Leader boards could be posted for most consecutive days, most calories burned in a week, etc. There could be global, local, "friend" and "rival" boards. Mini-Games and Downloadable Content- Along with the traditional yoga, jogging, Tae-Bo, step aerobics, Pilates, etc. type things that could be included, there could be fun exercise-oriented mini-games like DDR without the mat, whack-a-mole (either with feet or with hands), maybe even basic dance instruction, the sky's the limit. People could import songs for jogging from their computers, or purchase additional games or scenery online. Songs to workout to might need to be purchased so that their length/speed/beat information could be attached, but they could come in packs and be fairly cheap. Entire themes could be bundled together and include a workout gym or two, a number of jogging runs, instructor skins, and some associated music. Expanding the market: Imagine if this was a really well done "game" and was advertised on Oprah, HGTV's I Want That, and other shows that grown ups watch. Then imagine Nintendo licensing educational software for toddlers/children a la Leap Frog and I think you can see that this would find its way into many homes that don't currently have "gaming" systems. What do you think?

I don't know about you guys, but I'll probably spend more on the Virtual Console than on the console itself, if you get my drift. Some of the games I'd like to pick up are: Obvious: The old Castlevanias (maybe just rent if possible) The old Zeldas The old Marios The old Mega Mans Strategy: Bahamut Lagoon Ogre Battle Sim City Final Fantasy Tactics Zelda types: Crystalis Willow Star Tropics Puzzle types: Wario's Woods Kirby's Avalanche RPGs: Old Dragon Warriors Chrono Trigger Party/sports games: Super Bomberman NBA Jam (I think it was this one, the one where you make your own player) Tecmo Super Bowl Other: The Day of the Tentacle Pinball Quest (Don't ask me why, I just love that game) Games I would really, really like to see on the Virtual Console that were never on a console: XCOM: UFO Defense (Please, please, please!) Masters of Orion II King's Quest Games (the ones that didn't require typed instructions) Dagger of Amon Ra Other point and click adventures Myst games? It should be pretty obvious to anyone who reads this list that I will never complete most of these games, but MAN do I want to just have them in my collection. I think I'd keep that SD card with me at all times just... I mean... yeah, they're pretty good games.

The important thing Nintendo is trying to do is appeal to all audiences. If the parents buy it for their little kids then it is already in the house. That way when games like Bob Ross or Brain Training Revolution come out there will be more incentive to pick them up and try them- at least to rent them. It's all part of a bigger picture. Those parents get hooked on Bob Ross, tell their friends... or they pick up a party game and invite people over to play it... kiddie games may not appeal to us fangeeks, but they'll have plenty of games that do.

A lot of that seems very possible... except for the June launch. I would be very surprised, but Nintendo is being very Apple-y lately, so it could happen. As for Peter Molyneaux, even if he was developing for the Revolution before, I think those titles would have to shift to Microsoft, unless MS was feeling particularly giving or it was put in the contract. Rare was developing Kameo and PDZ for the GameCube, if I remember correctly, and those ended up with the Xbox family. As for the rest, it could very well be. These "rumors" are fairly conservative.

PC games on Rev? (Brothers in Arms 3 rumour)
InvaderElmo replied to gaggle64's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Although there have been rumors that the Revolution can run the Unreal 3 engine, most have been later updated to say that it is still uncertain and even unlikely. We do not "know" that the Rev can run it, and I trust 1up when they say that BIA3 is NOT coming to the Rev. I won't miss it at all. Yay for WWII era FPS. Oh wait, there are already too many of those. -
I know it will never happen, but I think a cool name would be the OVNI, which means Objeto Volador No Identificado, or unidentified flying object. It has a cool sound to it and the console looks like a UFO, but it wouldn't appeal to casual gamers much.

PC games on Rev? (Brothers in Arms 3 rumour)
InvaderElmo replied to gaggle64's topic in Nintendo Gaming
1up had this to say about BiA3: "Unfortunately, for Nintendo fans, Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway won't make its way to the Revolution platform..." I really wish people would let this rumor die. Besides, with MP3 and Red Steel we really don't want too many other FPS on the system. Source: 1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3149544&did=1 -
Red Steel -1ST Rev game screenshots in gameinformer
InvaderElmo replied to guarana's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The Revolution will come out in November. Can you think of anything else that comes out pretty much every year around that time? MARIO PARTY! Of course they'll launch with a Revolution Mario Party! I just thought I had to throw that in as nobody seems to mention it. I think Mario Party with a remote will be the first new party game in years. -

…not to assign any personality to the main character. You are the hero in Red Steel, and this is your adventure. The only backstory to the protagonist is that he is an American male who is engaged to a Japanese-American woman named Miyu. On the night that you are supposed to meet Miyu’s father for the first time, she is kidnapped from the posh Los Angeles restaurant you’re dining in. You quickly learn that her father is a Yakuza boss named Sato, who is in possession of an important ceremonial katana. A younger, more ruthless Yakuza faction led by a man called Tokai attempted to steal the sword from Sato to shift the balance of power within the organization. Sato thwarted the attempt to steal the sword, but was mortally wounded in the attack. Tokai’s men kidnap Miyu in response, hoping to trade her life for the sword. But Sato refuses to hand over the sword to Tokai, instead giving it to you, with the instructions to use it to find his daughter. Sato dies soon after giving you the sword, leaving you all alone and untrained against Tokai’s men. Armed with the katana and a selection of firearms, you must follow Miyu to Japan and defeat Tokai, but first you must gain the skills necessary to confront him. According to Expert, the first third of the game will be more brutal by necessity. When you are first learning to use the Revolution controller, you will be less precise and favor more devastating… …a series of headshots, it is often more beneficial to take a non-lethal shot, such as shooting a gun out of an enemy’s hands. In many situations, there will be a higher-ranking enemy who commands the others in the area. By defeating him and sparing his life, he will offer you his respect and help. The enemies he commands will surrender their guns and the boss may offer you a new weapon, a special path through the level, or other reward. Any time you spare an enemy, you will be rewarded, as it always takes more skill to spare a life than to take it. Freeze shot adds a lot of depth to the gunplay and is a natural fit for the Revolution controller, but isn’t the only way that Red Steel adds spice to the combat. After all, why would you carry a sword through a game if you couldn’t use it? Although the majority of Red Steel’s gameplay will stress ranged combat, there will be times you need to get up close and personal. You can switch to the sword at any time, and if you can get close enough to an enemy, you can use it for one-hit stealth kills. In other moments, you’ll find yourself locked into intense one-on-one sword duels. Any time you face an enemy with a sword of his own, you’ll need to take yours out right away, or his blade will make short work of you. Swinging the Revolution controller in front of you, you will see the sword…
