I tend to stick to RPG/Action/Adventure for the most part, and there are certain genres I don't care for. Although I don't really use my consoles much anymore, I have a PC, a PS3, and a Wii, and I've used each of them extensively and I know what they each have to offer. I know a fair bit about the industry, from the perspective of a consumer anyway, and I tend to pay attention to the major events and read reviews frequently. As far as opinion goes, I do have one, but I explain it properly, and accept that different people have different opinions.
