  1. Have we any idea how the 3DS is doing in the UK?

We won't know for sure into Nintendo release the numbers. We do know that over the holiday season Mario kart, nsmbu 2 and Mario 3D have been holding very well every week in the software top 40. I don't think it's doing wonders but I do think the 3DS hardware sales would of been pretty good in the UK during the holiday period.

    NPD results are in.

    Nintendo News

Wii U Hardware Sales Surpass Wii Sales by More Than $30 Million through First Six Weeks

With more than 460,000 units sold in December, Wii U has now sold nearly 890,000 units in the United States after only 41 days on the market, according to the NPD Group. To date, Wii U hardware sales have generated more than $300 million in the U.S. alone; Wii hardware had generated just more than $270 million at the same point in its lifecycle.

“While the Wii launch established new benchmarks in the United States, Wii U has surpassed its predecessor in perhaps the most important category: revenue generation,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The demand for the Deluxe SKU, which was essentially sold out at retail this holiday, and the strong attach rate of New Super Mario Bros. U, shows that we have the value and the games to drive momentum in 2013. We look forward to offering great new experiences and bringing smiles to millions of new faces throughout the year.”

New Super Mario Bros. U has now sold more than 580,000 units, an attach rate of more than 65 percent.

Nintendo 3DS sold more than 1.25 million units in December and has crossed 7.7 million units sold life to date.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 became the fourth Nintendo 3DS title to surpass 1 million units sold in the U.S., and has now sold more than 1.45 million units life to date.

Nintendo 3DS continues to outpace the historic sales rate of Nintendo DS.

Wii sold nearly 475,000 units and crossed 40.8 million units sold life to date.

Ubisoft’s Just Dance 3 became the 10th Wii title to sell more than 5 million units life to date.

Nintendo DS sold nearly 470,000 units and crossed 53 million units sold life to date.

Yikes less than 500k in December. I like the spin but damn 460,000 units in December is very low. The wii outsold the Wii U!!

The attach rate for NSMB U is fantastic.

    Great 3DS numbers. Brilliant!!!

  2. Probably a good idea to seperate the discussion into its own thread really. Plus it gives us a place to talk about Wii U and 3DS stuff together! :D

Wii U held on much better than I had expected BTW. It barely dropped at all! (As did the 3DS, continuing its rise to heaven!)

Its software also has some nice legs growing there. I suspect that they'll stick around for a good while there!

NSMB2 has bounced back quite a bit and Paper Mario SS is almost certain to become the best selling game in the series now!

Fantasy Life's drop is reletively low too. Looks like Level 5 have found their saving grace after their recent run of bombas.

Also where the hell did New Style Boutique come from!? It just came back out of nowhere! Nice to see a bump for MH3U 3DS and PKMD 3DS too (I wonder if we'll see a rise for that next week as a result of the Gen 6 announcement...)

The only figure we have is for Animal Crossing New Leaf, which is now number 1 in the Japanese charts with over 500k sales.

Wasnt Fantasy Life supply constrained as well.

  3. Does there exist any numbers on how download-only eShop games are doing?

No. Nintendo give out numbers for 3ds eshop games at times.

Good to see Nintendo Land and Mario holding and they should soften the blow from the HW drop which I think will happen over the next month. Hopefully it will stay above 50k a week but there is nothing coming out.

  4. Wii U retail demo

ZombiU (Ubisoft, free) — Originally thought to be on the way in December last year, the ZombiU demo has finally arrived on the European eShop. Unfortunately its 18 rating means that you'll have to wait for a four hour window late tonight to download it — at least it'll be appropriately dark and spooky when you give it a try and bash some zombie heads.

FFS Nintendo get some new content on the Eshop!!

  5. I've been playing this for a couple of days now, and I'm absolutely loving it! :yay:

This game is incredible! And (as I mentioned on Miiverse) the perfect example of a port to Wii U done right. Not only does it run flawlessly at 60fps and feature all of the game modes/content from the other versions, but there's the additional GamePad options and Nintendo themed stuff too! :bouncy:

I'm already hooked on the customization aspect, and although the paint tool is pretty limited it's still loads of fun. :hehe:

Played a few online games too, not had any problems so far and it runs perfectly. icon14.gif

I also love how the Wii U Friend List keeps a history of all the people you've played against, giving you the option to add them, or just check out their Miiverse.

Another thing that I love is how completely mental some of the character endings are, and how they all use really different art styles.

Mokujin's ending was especially entertaining.

So yeah, this game definitely gets a recommendation from me.

    • Looks excellent
    • Plays excellent
    • Loads and loads of excellent content

    EXCELLENT!! :D

How do you find using the gamepad? I play all my fighting games with an arcade stick on 360 but dont really wanna get a stick for the Wii U yet until there are some more fighting games on the horizon. As someone who tends to really dislike playing fighting games without an arcade stick would you say I should just wait for now?

  6. HD Wind Waker, Sunshine and Prime?

    wouldn't complain...

just get the VC up on there with gamecube games among others. Really looking forward to a fully fledged wii u Virtual console.

Not sure how to play sunshine with no analogue triggers.

  7. Funny to see the word "unjustified" flying around considering how you got to this point in the conversation..

I'd say he was fair to say it to be honest. 75 whole pounds off the RRP less than a month after it has launched is really concerning. That's nearly a third of the price! liger even made the effort to make sure to state UK/Europe, indicating it's definitely failing in one of the two regions. My guess? UK only, because I'm not seeing much data for Europe.

Now, lets check out your response..

Basically the "I don't like your argument, but can not provide any productive counter arguments so I'll just stretch what you said with a sarcastic response".

C'mon Aneres, you're better than this. The only thing I'll pick at liger's posts is the use of past tense. I would personally say 'The Wii U is bombing in the UK', 'bombed' sounds like the thing is already done for and there's no saving it.

good point and 3 weeks is too soon to say write a console off. Things can be turned around its just had a really bad start in the UK. Way worse than I thought it would be.

TBH even this zavvi deal I would expect at that price for them the units to of been sold out within an hour or two but its still there with 115 sold.

I do wonder if its another N64 situation where there is an official price drop within a couple of months. I hope not but I cant see the sales picking up too much as the software isnt there right now.

I clearly need to be clearer.

Fair to me is takin a look at the situation.

We have a console that has been out for 3 weeks or so and in that time it has sold however many units. (I don't have exact numbers, sorry).

First week sales were good. They were very good considering the marketing for this from Nintendo has been absolutely pathetic. Not to mention the fact we've had no consoles in supermarkets which is a bit of a bummer and may have hindered sales somewhat.

Also, with the name and confusion of whether this is a new console or new controller by lots of people, the sales haven't been terrible.

They're not consistent, no - but I don't think that is typical of any console launch / release.

So my point, is that the failing and bombing comment isn't fair (once again, my opinion) when taking the above into consideration (terrible marketing, confusion, no stock in supermarkets etc) and the fact it has only been out for 3 weeks. A console doesn't fail or succeed in it's first few weeks! If that was the case then the 3DS would be dead and buried.

Yes, my first comment may have been slightly childish and sarcastic and I apologise, but it wasn't nasty or personal. But again, sorry if offensive.

Hopefully that explains my thoughts better.

First week sales were not good. MCV reported it did 40k on the first weekend. That is very very low and ranked below all other launches.

The product confusion and bad marketing is down to nintendo and thats the worst thing. There are elements Nintendo can control and they blew it. Either they were not prepared for the current market conditions or just thought the 'wii' name alone would do the job.

There is only so much money people have and come January/Feb people aint out spending big money after the holiday period.

The biggest indicator we have of poor sales in the UK & Europe is no PR from Nintendo. Nintendo being completely silent about sales in the UK or France and Germany tells us things are not going well.

  8. Yeah totally. Nintendo are doomed, they'll never recover from this and this time next year they will be making games for iOS.

    :indeed:

lol no need to try and be funny. Nobody is saying that, Nintendo has enough money in the bank survive the Wii U being a failure but lets not kid ourselves here, the first month in the UK the Wii U has bombed hard.

Retailers dont sell new consoles for £75 off the rrp a month after launch if they are selling well.
