  1. Oh, and, what am I missing? Why do people suddenly not like John Cena?

A load of people don't like him because he has a limited moveset, usually childish promos, and is screamed at by adoring women and children enducing fits of jealousy. Personally, I like the guy. He carries himself well, he works his ass off and from what I hear he's an all round nice guy. I wish he'd turn heel though, he had such better promo skills when he was rapping. Plus, the Five Knuckle Shuffle is one of the most awesome gimmick moves since the Rock's People's Elbow, Scotty 2 Hotty's Worm and Hogan's Leg Drop. You can't see me!

  2. I also cheered when Undertaker hammered Kennedy with the chair, that shit.

Dude, that chairshot was SICK! Overall, it was an alright PPV. Nothing special, but nothing particularly bad. Ken Kennedy still rules. Kennedy. I just wish that Taker could have lost cleanly and then beaten Kennedy at Armageddon. Loved that the crowd reaction for CM Punk was better than that of DX. Kinda like when DX were trying to out-pop Hogan at Summerslam! I think the only way of eventually turning Punk heel would be for him to legitimately kill the Untertaker, piss on his grave and rape his corpse - that guy is OVER.

  3. When Iwata said firmware updates could come on discs, why didn't anyone remember how PSP updates without using the internet? Yep, that's right, the firmware is packaged on the same UMD as the games you buy. So every time you run a new game, it'll check to see if you need new firmware. Thus, no internet connection required. Though I guess you'd actually have to wait for a game you want to buy first. Magazines could always include them on demo discs too.

  4. To be honest, I reckon this is shaping up to be one of the best WWE PPVs in a while. Summerslam was a letdown, despite a promising card. Unforgiven and No Mercy were also good PPVs. I think this is worth the £15. Perhaps I'll get a few people round to share the cost!

  5. To be honest, I hope it's JUST a stadium game. Though, more in the style of Stadium 2 on the 64. Easily the best non-RPG Pokemon game. Coliseum tried to incorporate an RPG mode but it sucked. Would you rather have a crappy tacked on RPG, or a full-blown MMORPG as a seperate game? I know I'll be getting P:BR when it comes out for sure.

  6. My housemate tripped over me this morning at god knows what hour when he found I was asleep in the hallway, but (as far as I know) I haven't been sick in a while. Usually being sick helps (I guess that's why the body does it, but I left biology way back at GCSE), but I try and stop drinking when I feel queasy. I've got hair that's just long enough to get in the path of liquids exiting my mouth, and unless there's someone nice enough to hold it back the end result is not pretty.

In my first year, one of my housemates (who, admittedly, was quite strange) employed a "tactical throw up" before he went to bed, necked a pint of water and two paracetemol and was up early for a morning run. I can't say that sounds particularly fun to be honest!

  7. Now, after quite an excessive night out last night, I woke up this morning feeling absolutely awful. Banging headache, dizziness, nausea, the lot. Anyhow, I had to go to work at 3 so I needed a cure and I needed it fast. Some people like a big greasy fry up, I myself cannot stand to think of eating when I feel like that. I'd been drinking lots of water before I went to bed (that usually helps) but as I said, it was a particularly excessive night.

Anyhow, a stop in the shop on the way to work and something behind the counter catches my eye when I'm looking for my chosen brand of cancer sticks. "Alka Seltzer XS". XS can only mean "Excessive", right? So I buy myself a pack and drag my slow moving body to work. Popped two pills in a glass of water, waited for it to dissolve and downed it. 30 minutes later, I was right as rain. Well, in comparison to earlier. Checked the packet, and supposedly it contains something that "empties your stomach" (I was somewhat worried by the way they worded it). Plus besides, aspirin and paracetemol, there was one vital ingredient : Caffiene! Genius!

So from now on they'll be a box of Alka Seltzer XS by my bed every night for the morning after. Just thought I'd share this mystical cure with you guys! What do you all find works for you? And don't say don't drink alcohol, I'm a student, it's compulsory!

  8. Casual gamers become casual potatoes. Anyway lets save it for another thread in 2 years when loads of bollocks games come out like darts.

As long as they have a pint-glass shell attatchment to the Wiimote, I'd buy it! Imagine the minigames! Pint downing with noted attatchment, smoking as many fags as you can while your opponent throws using the Wiimote as the cigarette simulator!

    I kid, I kid. Although...

  9. And don't forget the intellectual advantage :heh: . Honestly though, for the most part this forum is pretty mature. I feel so old knowing that at just 20 I'm in the oldest 13% of the forums! Still, I know I won't feel old until I finish uni and get a proper job. I've already started saying "back in my day"... :red:

  10. Yes, thank you for pointing out my already quoted statement. I do have a job. In fact, a rather wonderful thing happened to me today. Having already gotten paid for 6 weeks work (they didn't register some details apparently, so they tacked 2 weeks onto this month's wages), my boss gave me an envelope with £200 in cash, saying it was for the two weeks they forgot to pay me last time. I got a little confused, but it wasn't until my break (and by that time she'd left) that I realised what had happened. It's like playing Monopoly and getting a Community Chest card. "Stupid boss error in your favour, get overpaid £200"

  11. Whatever time the man from Play.com comes and rings my doorbell. Luckily enough, I don't have lectures on fridays, and I moved my lab session for that friday afternoon to the previous one. Hope to god he gets here before noon. It's like waiting for christmas. Except I don't really care about christmas any more!

  12. but that will leave me with nothing until I next get paid

lol, thanks for the suggestions so far. I think I'm a bit limited with ebay, I've tried to bring as little as possible with me to uni. I'm also far too sentimental about some things! As for being a rent boy... uhhh... no thanks.

Only joking. It sucks that student loans have screwed up so badly. I know a couple of people here in the same situation because of their loans going wandering. Do you need the car for a while, because you could put off getting the repair work done for a week or so until you get paid or the loan appears. Also if you don't have a student bank account you could get one, an interest free overdraft could solve your problems temporarily.

I'm currently at balance of £-1100. My account has a max £1500 overdraft (interest free, student account, been around this game for three years now!). I'd like to say I could rely on my credit card, but I'm still paying off my last car's MOT (I sold it straight afterwards, ended up spending more on MOT than got from car sale! And before you ask, I didn't buy the new car, I inherited it. Having two cars made no sense so I got rid of the worse one!)

  13. Now, before you automatically think "Hey, this guy's only made 3 posts and he's already spamming", let me explain. This is not a "sign up to some pyramid scheme" thing. Hell, I don't even have any suggestions myself.

Let me tell my story. I'm in my 3rd year of Uni. Well, repeating my second year, but that's another story. For some reason, the Student Loan Company lose my application and fail to pay me the money I need on time. "Fair enough", I think, "I've saved enough over the holidays to keep me going until they sort it out". 1 drink-filled Fresher's Week, 8 or 9 regular term time weeks, one £1200 rent cheque, one £600 tuition fee payment, amongst food and utility bills later, and that bank account is starting to look a little empty. "It's alright, I've got nothing expensive coming soon, I can wait another few weeks for that loan", I think to myself confidently, "£400 is easily enough to last me".

Of course, one thing I hadn't bargained on was my car's MOT. I got the car quite recently and I knew the previous owner who took very good care of it. I assumed it would pass no problem, and I'd fork out £30 for the MOT and be done. After dropping the car off this morning, I took a walk around town (worth it, I guess, I could have sworn that Future Publishing building was recieving a delivery of several boxes of Wii gaming goodness). One phone call an hour later however, and I think my bank account screamed something along the lines of "My balls, my balls! They kicked me in the balls!". 4 new tyres, welding on both sides to repair corrosion near the suspension, brake light re-wiring and a couple of hours labour. Total cost... yep, you guessed it, £400.

Now I can afford the repairs, but that will leave me with nothing until I next get paid (4 weeks, that's my Wii fund and nothin's touching that!), or my student loan comes through (which is some time... er... "soon"). OR I can find another way to make money. That's where you guys, and the thread title comes in.

What do you guys think will be a short term make-money scheme, no matter how ridiculous, that can get me out of a spot of bother. A few ground rules however:

    - No asking parents for a bail out (played that card once too many times)

    - No ripping off / conning people.

    - No becoming a rent boy

I've been playing poker a lot, but it's only low stakes so it's pretty slow progress. I'd not be against the idea of life modelling, but it's not often you see signs out in the street advertising!

Sorry if the post breaks any rules, I read through but I didn't really see anything against it. Only related rule I saw was:

"Aggressive advertising is not allowed. Only advertising allowed is a one line advert in your signature in regular size and face font."

Since I'm not really advertising anything, I hope I'm alright. Your judgment I guess! Thought this thread could be useful for all the other hard-up students that populate the forum!

  14. I may have only just joined the forum, but I've been a long time lurker (and I mean long time. Like, back in the C-E days and before). I used to mainly frequent the PGC boards and chat, but I kinda slowly weaned (sp?) myself off once Billy Berghammer left. Not to say the rest of the staff weren't good, but it just didn't quite seem the same. Maybe it was just the fact the GC was out for about a year at that point, and all the hype had passed.

Anyhow, I like this board because I see quite a nice lack of unneeded flaming, fanboyism (is that a word?) and general n00bishness (now that definetly isn't a word!). So I thought I might as well try an contribute something to the forum. Plus, everyone seems to be nice and friendly to the new guys. Especially if they read the posting rules and t0T4lLy sP3lLz0Rs pR0p3rLY. W3rD.

  15. So far, so good. Survivor Series is shaping up to be an interesting PPV. DX, Hardyz, CM Punk, Edge and Sugar Shane Helms (I won't stop calling him that) in the same match? Yes please! Shame about Randy "What?" Orton, Johnny "Why?" Nitro and Mike "Who?" Knox being there. Oh, and what's more, seing the Undertaker facing Mr. Kennedy... Kennedy again - awesome. Kennedy rules (what a finisher!), and working with Taker can only give him a good rub into main eventing within a year.

Having said that, Team Cena vs Team Big Show? Can you say "clash of styles"? Rob Van Dam, Sabu and Finlay will make this match. But seriously, weird mix of big-man power and high-flying acrobatics.

Chris Benoit vs Chavo Guerrero... I like the sound of the match, but I really can't stand Chavo's gimmick at the moment. It's so distasteful.

Surely they've just used all of their top-tier talent in those matches? Carlito vs Shelton Benjamin? Or given recent RAW, Shelton & someone vs Cryme Tyme?

Some tag-team battle royal? I think I can see Flair and Piper losing their titles at SS. I see their run more of a nostalgia trip rather than a way to lift some of the younger guys. I mean, Flair has been destroying the Spirit Squad recently.

  16. Hi guys, long time lurker first time poster. Thought this thread would be a nice easy start.

Anyhow, almost straight after Play.com started taking orders, I placed my order for:

    - Wii + Wii Sports

    - Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess

    - Super Monkey Ball : Banana Blitz

    - 1 Wiimote

    - 1 Nunchuck

Then, having visited the site later, I found the price of the Wiimotes had gone up from £24.99 to £28.99. When I realised I'd have to buy another Wiimote and Nunchuck for a friend, I thought I might as well spend the extra £3 and get Wii Play too.

It better all turn up on the 8th! I recieved one of the "Despite a shortage, we should fulfil your order" emails from them, so here's to hoping!
