  1. Component Cable £14.99 from Play.com

Yes, Jersey is exempt from VAT. That's why loads of online stores are now setting up shop in Jersey.
  2. Cheap Games...

If you shop on-line at http://www.choicesuk.com, add the code 'reward' at the checkout, and you'll get a 5% discount, valid 8/11/2006 - 31/12 2006 ***EDIT*** Ooops sorry, just read the bargain board and see that someone has already posted this code!
  3. PAL component cable and RGB cable available

I haven't got an HD TV, just an (oldish) Toshiba 28" CRT Widescreen, but it does have component inputs which I use with my Cube. Believe me, there is a big difference in quality between Component and Composite. I'm sure not many of my Cube games support progressive scan, but as already stated above, Component DOES provide a far superior picture over composite.
  4. Get Ready for Wii! £18 2G SD Card!!

Unless Nintendo force you to format the card to something other than FAT, FAT32 or NTFS . . . Would be pretty stupid if they did, however.
  5. Get Ready for Wii! £18 2G SD Card!!

The problem I can see with buying one large capacity card is that if you damage it, or it becomes corrupt (which can happen even with decent branded ones), you've lost everything unless you make a habit of backing it up to your PC, so it might be more prudent to get a few smaller capacity cards. At least with SD cards, we shouldn't get the problem we used to get with the Cube and N64 in that unless you bought Nintendo branded ones or were very lucky, you were almost certain to lose your data.
  6. Wii Exchange Gaming Knowledge.

What's this then - a Saturday job in your local GAME store? Can't be Dixons or anywhere like that as their staff know *!$* all. The fact you're asking must mean that you haven't got the knowledge, in which case I'm puzzled as to why any company would employ someone who doesn't have the right qualifications for the job.
  7. Wii production exceeding expectations

The trouble with this news, if it's true, is I can see the following happening. When the PS3 and Wii launch in the States, Sony will be boasting/bragging about how more popular their console is than the Wii because shops have sold out, whereas Wii's will still be on the shelves. Also, all the tabloids will have massive headlines about it (probably paid for by Sony) and they'll conveniently ignore the real reason.
  8. Gamecube RGB cabel on Wii Question

I've checked and it does look slightly like the component socket of the cube, but does it really matter? The cube will come with a composite cable, so you won't need your cube cable, and as I've already said, there's no point trying to fit your old component cable into the slot as, even if it does fit, you won't get any sound.
  9. Gamecube RGB cabel on Wii Question

I've had a look at this and whilst the socket does look the same, the problem, as KingOfHyrule has pointed out, is that the Cube component cable only carries video. In order to get any sound, we still need to have the composite cable plugged in. As there is only one output socket on the Wii, as opposed to 2 on the Cube, there is going to have to be a new component cable made that carries both Video and Audio. As far a TV's which have component inputs is concerned, my TV is about 3 years old, and is just a standard 28" widescreen CRT TV, but it does have component inputs, so it's not just HDTV sets that have them.
  10. A short rant from a gaming veteran

Vic 20 - Standard memory 3.5K. Boy did programmers have to write decent code in those days, Jeff Minter being one of the best. Although I did manage to upgrade it to a massive 32K !!! The worst game I had for loading times was The Hobbit - 30 minutes and it didn't always load correctly the first time. Kids these days don't know how lucky they are!
  11. A short rant from a gaming veteran

I'll add my name to the list of oldies - 43 Systems owned:- Binatone Pong game Atari VCS Commodore Vic 20 Atari Lynx Atari ST Yamaha MSX Toshiba MSX Gameboy N64 Gameboy Advance GameCube 2 original DS's 1 DS lite
  12. Gamecube RGB cabel on Wii Question

My only thought on this is that as the Wii is so much smaller than previous consoles, they may have had to change the output connections because of space issues - the component cable I've got for my Cube is quite a chunky plug.
  13. Gamecube RGB cabel on Wii Question

I play all my Cube games (PAL) using the component cable. The graphics are far sharper and the colours more vibrant than using the composite cable. The display is more comparable to using a PC monitor. It will be a shame if the connection isn't the same. If it isn't perhaps there will be an adaptor made available.
  14. European Wii Preorders

Has anyone managed to place an order and get a discount on their bundle? Just out of interest, I selected everything and still got discount of £0.00 Will just keep my original order I did this morning.
  15. European Wii Preorders

Yep, I've have my order confirmation too!
  16. European Wii Preorders

That's not too bad. At least they're not £50
  17. European Wii Preorders

How much is ouch ? Also Gameplay preorders still aren't live yet.
  18. European Wii Preorders

Well I filled in the "register your interest" form on ToysRUs website, but haven't heard anything yet. But then again, haven't heard from any of the sites that I've done this on. Hopefully soon.
  19. NOT! For idiots or the very desparate only:- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nintendo-Wii-Console-Game_W0QQitemZ280028742486QQihZ018QQcategoryZ187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This is £70 over the recomended price and doesn't come with anything other than the standard package. Oh, and he wants immediate payment!!!!! Also be wary that someone else on ebay is claiming you can get a Wii by going to a referral site wiigenie or something like that. Of course, the link he gives contains his referral id! Lots of other bargains are to be had (as you will be!) as well if you look around ebay.
  20. The Official Wii Price Thread.

I'm sorry to have to repeat myself, but you must take into consideration that we have far higher import duties and taxes than the US which I'm sure, once you take these into consideration, levels the playing field somewhat. Also, I'm sure I read somewhere that the $250 cost in the US was before any local taxes (different states have different scales of taxes), so you're not really comparing like with like.
  21. European Wii Preorders

amazon.com is the American site. The UK site hasn't started taking any orders yet (as far as I can see).
  22. Midnight Launch - Possibility?

Does it really matter if you get it at midnight? Get a decent night's sleep then you will be more alert to go and collect your console in the morning and then play it all day.
  23. The Official Wii Fund Tracking Thread

Wii Fund? Don't need one. It will just come out of my monthly salary
  24. European Wii Preorders

I didn't pre-order my gamecube so don't know the answer to the following. If, once we've pre-ordered, the price does go down before release (as could easily happen), do I assume that we would only pay the price at release and not at the time of ordering? Has anyone got stung by a particular company in the past?
  25. European Wii Preorders

Owen. When I posted about the paranoia shown by people on this thread, I only quoted your post as it was the last one of many. Can I just make it clear that I wasn't particularly having a go at you. My point still is that some people are still behaving as if it's going to be the end of the world if they don't get their Wii at 1 minute past midnight on the 8th. I just wish people would put everything into perspective - IT'S ONLY A GAMES CONSOLE! If people are going to almost have a nervous breakdown over something like this, then heaven help them once they've left school/college and gone into the real world. . . . Anyway, just to rub things in a bit, as a worker I don't need to save for the Wii - I'll just use some of my large monthly earnings to pay for it
