  1. I'm gone for a few hours and the apparent contents (most of which I totally called!) of the Direct are leaked once again.

Nintendo and their friends (looking at you Pikachu) are having an absolute nightmare of these are the contents...

And it doesn't even look to be anything of real interest. All toes crossed they have something up their sleeve.

  2. That sounds better to me than a pre-recorded half-reveal to me. And you never know they still have 3 months to do a dedicated event for it.

I'm not sure. The PS4 reveal went well:

    - show some gameplay graphics and the controller a few months before E3.

    - reveal console and games at E3.

    - a few events during the summer for people to try it out.

Unless we get a Direct just before E3 now, I don't expect a dedicated Direct for it. Perhaps they'll treat E3 like a Direct, who knows. I'm just worried that they might be putting all of their eggs in one basket (and I want to see something, pretty badly at this point).

  3. Well. No NX news or mobile news. I can understand leaving the NX until E3 - which now looks to be an all-inclusive hardware and software reveal - but with Miitomo launching this month, it's strange for them to not at least mention it.

Looking at the leaked list of first party releases, they'll probably talk about Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, Federatiom Force, Hyrule Warriors Legends, the code names Cadillac (I'm sure they've used this one before), Torte City and F Caviar (F-Zero?), Bravely Second, Dragon Quest VII, the first wave of Selects for the year and probably Star Fox too. More Yokai Watch stateside, no doubt.

I don't expect anything on Pikmin (considering that they've said they're looking at a future console for this), Mario (same lines here, I mean unless it's Party or Tennis...), or Zelda Wii U (if it is releasing on the NX, they're likely saving a lot for E3). Don't expect too much on the Pokémon front apart from maybe showing the trailer again.

Not so sure about Mother 3.

  4. Surely you will be sick to the back teeth of Pokemon playing through all that?

Not at all. I've never been a major completionist, but I've been playing Pokémon for a long time now, and this being the 20th Anniversary I figured it only makes sense. Sick of Pokémon? Never!

I also only play through Pokémon games once and then leave them to gather dust. I used to avoid trainers and catching everything I saw. The gap between now and Sun/Moon seems long enough, though seeing as I've mapped that out, I'm now firmly in the field of purchasing both games (which to date I've never done before, but may do by purchasing Y and Alpha Sapphire) because I want to have the Pokédex completed.

That being said, it comes at a price. I had plans to play Zelda, as I've never completed one of those before, or Fire Emblem, which I've never even played before. But these things can wait.

If these games come out in November/December, I'm going to have a great few weeks. These games, Star Wars Rogue One, my 18th birthday, Christmas...

Why couldn't this have ever happened when I were younger?

  5. E3 is my bet

I don't know if I can last until then. Then again, I've got a lot to do in the next three and a half months anyways (besides college, oh how I hate to mention the frivolous nature of u18 requirements in the UK...).

Play through Green, battling and catching every Pokémon available.

Playing through Red, battling and catching every Pokémon available.

Speed-running through Yellow because I've completed the Pokédex on the above^^^ and the trading so I've complete the Pokédex on Yellow.

    Umm...

Replay Diamond, Soul Silver, White and play the only game I haven't played, being White 2 (what happened? Idk. It just came and went and I was like "uh, okay". But it's not okay. I completed Black 2 for my little brother (I hope he never reads this).

Then possibly play through Alpha Sapphire and Y. And Super Myster Dungeon. Did I forget anything? (Yeah, this is just the Pokémon stuff).

My year goal for Pokémon is to complete the Pokédex (up to Diancie, I may have missed an event or two) for Gen VI and to get into competitive battling.

Still can't wait that long for Sun/Moon info though...I expect a Direct in April too, but doubt we'll get much there. Come on Pokémon, throw me another bone!

    NASA's Twitter feed.

Yes. During the next eclipse (now I've said that I'll find out we don't have one for another fifteen years or something).

  6. Did Nintendo give a specific date for Miitomo, I can't remember..?

Nothing beyond it being released next month, March 2016 (my bets are on the second half of the month). Shouldn't have to wait too long for an announcement, and, if you've signed up already, probably an email notifying you of its release.

Apparently Nintendo plan to have four apps up and running by March 2017 with over 100 million users (these apps not being for games, note).

  7. Just powered up my cartridge to check if they're all still healthy - found I had a level 176 rapidash.... I know it was possible to get over level 100, but even so.. did the glitch randomly give a level, or at some point did I put in stupid effort to make that rapidash level 176?

I can see I have my Persian with Payday - when I realised I couldn't get a persian on x/y I lost all interest... that pay day move made me rich :(

So.. kinda tempted to buy the vc version but are there any additions (beyond miiverse which I don't really use) and pokebank (which I won't use) that make it worth very cash?

It's a third or a quarter of the price you pay for a brand new Pokémon game?

  8. O . O i've seen that same list popping up in a few places...Part of me is like " Eh it's just rumours" but then I see Jinron and I thing "Man a fighting dragon would be cool"

    The thing that made a lot of people think it was fake is that we got too many things we've wanted for so long (and if you didn't before, you will now);

    • dolphin Pokémon.

    • a load of dual types we've never seen before, the standouts being: grass/fire, ice/fire, fighting/dragon, bug/ice, ice/flying, poison/ground, ground/fighting, ice/fighting.

  9. There are some more rumours, from an apparently solid source called 'Geno' who in the past has provided legit info on the PS4 and Xbox One, but obviously take it with a pinch of salt but it sounds interesting.

    http://dualpixels.com/2016/02/27/rumor-new-information-on-next-gen-nintendo-nx-console/

The most exciting thing is obviously the apparent ease of development and porting from other consoles. The wireless HDMI dongle coming with the console is interesting, but I hope they still include an HDMI port.

Firstly, hearing that they say "For Iwata!" at the end of each meeting concerning the NX is one of the best things I've ever heard about a game company. He will forever be sorely missed, and Nintendo, despite apparent major shifts internally, look to the future more as a cohesive unit as opposed to individual components.

Secondly, if even only a few things that the source outlines is on the NX, it sounds great. This is sure to be a great year for Nintendo!

  10. "If" this new region is the nation Kalos warred with, that could mean totally new story PLUS finishing off of loose ends from XY. If this game doesn't visit Kalos during or after the main game I'll eat my hat (after I buy one).

I like the new leaked list, fake or not. Seems the humming bird does have an evo and it's flying/electric.

Yukiba/Fukiba the ice wolf clearly Moon exclusive, Nikkoguma/Beasahi the morning sun clearly Sun exclusive, and two sets of three form fighters each likely an exclusive. The dragon/steel type lance/shield sounds like some sort of knight dragon and cool as fuck.

Oh, and for Glen: Dolphin is on the list, too. I'd be happy if the list was real.

I'm sure this will be 3DS, the units are already sold and the game's been in the works for a while. I doubt it would skip 3DS.

It is for the 3DS. Scroll to the bottom of this here page: http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-video-games/pokemon-sun-and-pokemon-moon/

I thought Lanturn is a dolphin-like angler fish?

Edit: Ocean Pattern Vivillion, rainbow licence plate just convinced me that Gen 7 will be in Hawaii inspired Hawaii region. I guess the flower clue is probably Lei (flower necklace)

Heard the rest before, but hadn't heard of the Lei being the connection to flowers. I like it!

  11. It's true that they held your attention for hours back then but look at it from a newcomers perspective - most games that make any impact or offer something new to the world of gaming are copied and refined - even if just in sequels from the same developer. It's hard to see how an early monster hunter game can ever be viewed the same way by people who first played MH4U compared with legacy players, for instance.

If we go by readjusting how good we think games are as time passes then any old titles in series like Pokemon will progressively become 'worse', as new titles become more and more refined in just about every way. Graphics of old games will age, while gameplay mechanics of new games will become more sophisticated, set pieces more grande, and generally higher tech allows for much more sophisticated game setups. That's not to say new games supersede old games always, but certain aspects of games will usually always age over time.

I believe that original games in series that haven't gone on to change too radically often gave you more entertainment as it was a fresh new experience, and not only that; original titles are the ones that displayed these brilliant new idea and broke waves. Those ideas usually have less and less effect the more you encounter them. I think Nostalgia does play a part in forming these judgements (new players to a series won't suffer any franchise fatigue) - but in a good way. A lot of how we feel about games is a product of how things were at the time.

Even if an old game no longer stands up to more modern games/sequels in the same genre, I don't think it's right to take away our past praise. Let's not forget the most important thing - what they once made us feel. Not how we judge them as late twenty something all these years on. :)

I urge you to make a thread on this topic!!! (in particular game sequels, but keeping it open as sequels would do just as well I'm sure)

  12. I bought my first ever main series Pokémon game.

Really?! One of the VC downloads of RBY?

I streamed Pokémon Green on twitch :D

I saw, great job Serebii, I really enjoyed it!

I think you should really consider doing it more often, well done :)

I spent the day playing Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. Unlike you bunch of mainstream posers!

    Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.

    PSMD.

    SM.

    S&M.

    Sun & Moon.

  13. what did everyone do for the 20th Anniversary?

I went to work, and whilst on my lunch break went to GAME (which was of course packed). Picked up download codes for RBY VC, the Mewtwo and Pikachu amiibo, and asked for a Mew code (the guy was kind enough to give me a code for both my OR and X games). Had a great chat with the cashier whilst transactions were taking place, and he let me know that they were already taking £5 deposits for pre-orders of Sun and Moon. Great to meet some fellow fans!

  14. Picked up Red, Blue and Yellow downloadable codes in GAME whilst on my lunch break at work today. It's an understatement to say it was absolutely packed.

Also picked up the Pikachu and Mewtwo amiibo, and started talking to the cashier: they're already taking deposits for pre-orders for Sun and Moon. Finally got around to asking for a Mew code (not going to leave it so late next time), and he asked which game I had, and I responded by saying I had both Omega Ruby and X. Gave me a code for each!
