  1. They're talking about this on Treehouse.

There's a Nintendo Direct focusing on this game in about a week.

EDIT: January 18th, although that's based on American time.

2PM PST I believe they said, which is 10PM GMT for us! :D

  2. Posted this elsewhere, but figured it sort of belongs here too.

Been looking around at game pricings everywhere, and stumbled upon something on GAME. It might be nothing, or it may be placeholder - so take it with a grain of salt - but these dates aren't "TBC" like others with unconfirmed release dates (such as FIFA, Skyrim, etc.), so I thought it was worth sharing, especially seeing as other dates that are specific thus far seem to match the officially confirmed dates.

    According to the website:

    Splatoon 2 - August 18th

    ARMS - April 15th

ShopTo seems to have a similar thing going on, with Ubisoft's Steep (the skiing game) and Rayman Legends Definitive Edition currently stated as having March 3rd - launch day - releases.

Again, grain of salt, but this would certainly back up just how much Ubisoft were backing the Switch before reveal: 3 launch day titles (the two aforementioned as well as Just Dance).

  3. So this is launch apparently...

Oh they seem to have deleted it.

Launch titles were Zelda, Just Dance, Skylanders, Street Fighter, 12 and something else...

Later in March was Snipper, Fast and something else. Will see if anyone took a copy.

Seems they just took it down and re-did it... But if it goes again:

I know there will be more coming out this year, but they've got 26 games there for the first nine months. The Wii U launched with 30 games.

  4. Bomberman R was also a launch title.

Skyrim in Autumn is way too late, I don't think it's going to sell too well. I wonder if Xenoblade 2 is just coming to Japan this year and will be in other territories around March 2018.

If I were them I wouldn't play such a dangerous game with fans if that turns out to be the case. It was shared by Ninty UK though, and if anything I'm sure we would be the ones to get it last.

  5. Me too :D

I was hesitant because of motion controls but was going to give it a go, but now I am 100% in.

People are complaining it's barebones, but like Splatoon's reveal this is just a very small microcosm of the game in a demo

Too right, this game looks genuinely fun at a glance, and to find out it has great depth with strategy too? :D

Can definitely see this taking off in eSports

  6. I'm just sat here thinking at just how baffling the price is.

It's a home console. It's not a portable - it's a home console you can unplug for a while. It's weaker than the PS4 and the Xbox One. Considerably so. It costs £100 more than a PS4 or Xbox One.

Yes it has tech that the others don't like a screen, and its one controller is basically two controllers.

It has a poor amount of storage.

    Surely it shouldn't cost a whole £100 more than a PS4!?

I can't help but feel Nintendo have made a massive mistake here and this is just going to be another Wii U situation.

While watching the presentation I was feeling the hype, but all the little details since have disappointed me a lot.

I think the biggest problem is that many are citing that the price is as high as it is because of it being innovative - the first of its kind in my memory - and having the pros (and cons) of being both a home and portable console. If the price is way high because of that (and to make profit), why then does it seem like they're double-dipping on that fact with the prices of the games? I mean, awesome, I can play Zelda at home or on the go (for three hours, give or take), but why are both console and game price both reflecting the "innovation" we've had presented to us.

Financially, it makes total sense. No exclusive home or portable console, so double the game price. But in terms of marketing, average game cost, etc? Not so much.

  7. I will, or at least that's currently the plan (if something shifty, such as ridiculous subscription prices, comes out, then I might question it).

Pre-ordered Special Edition BotW and Grey Switch with Amazon (the latter with ShopTo also!). Still quietly praying that the pre-order price slips like so many things (even if just to cover the price of the Pro controller).

  8. I've managed to not say anything about this yet, so...

...this game looks awesome. I mean, "has the potential to be the best game: period." awesome. It looks very childlike with the use of shading and art style, yet it seems to have a very dark undertone, which will more than likely lead to a great narrative. It feels and looks like Studio Ghibli, and is made by Nintendo using the Legend of Zelda. COULD MY BODY BE ANY MORE READY?!

  9. Looked pretty vibrant and fun to me; very Nintendo-esque. Can't say I saw lots of value in it though - I presume it's not aiming to be a huge title?

Seems to be their (attempt at an) answer to a lot of multiplayer heavy, strategy-focused games.

  10. This is Nintendo being very, very aware of the current success of eSports in my opinion.

And that's great, because this game looks like it could be great fun!

  11. If the rumours were true I imagine that it will get announced around E3 once Sun/Moon momentum has dropped.

Couldn't agree more. Dropping the news on SM last year was smartly done, but this year we probably won't hear anything until April at the earliest - in the event that there is a game due to be released at the end of this year, that is - in my opinion. Possibly even later if it's "just" a revamp/third version of SM.

  12. I think they NEED to do a smaller portable only one, which they can do with less high-spec stuff in the machine, for cheaper before they bring Pokémon on it

Don't think I could agree more with this. As things stand, it simply out-prices a lot of families, and let's not forget the potential downturn for damaging the console. What is it, ~£40/Joy-Con half? Wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot of insurance plans floating around for this.

Anyway, personally, I don't have a problem with the cost of the console: it's the first of its kind, and is cheaper overall than shelling out on both a 3DS and Wii U (at least based on their respective launch prices). I do understand the qualms many of you have with the prices we've seen floating around, which is why I plan on optimising my use of pre-order price guarantees. My biggest problem is the cost of everything else, though.

    Based on GAME pre-order prices:

£65 for a pro controller, which is more-or-less Ninty's Dualshock? £114.97 (!!!) for another fully functioning Joy-Con controller (each Joy-Con half is £42.99, with the main body of the unifying controller being £27.99)? Some prices seem reasonable, such as the Joy-Con straps, some of the cases, and even the Joy-Con wheels. But since when do we have tiers for the prices of games? I mean, it makes sense - for example, 1-2 is £39.99 and is more-or-less just a Joy-Con game, whereas Zelda and other AAA titles have been optimised for both home and portable use - but the fact that we now have pricing tiers is bound to baffle the more casual of gamers, surely?

  13. Man, the inconsistent prices are going to drive people off the wall.

At a glance, seems to be:

    • first party/AAA title - £59.99

    • Wii U Port - £49.99

    • experimental/indie games - £39.99

EDIT: expect to see some people talk about Sony/Microsoft already having online subscriptions. That's true. But theyre more powerful systems with a much, much wider array of already established games, and currently at a lower price than the Switch?
