  1. Ok? Well sucks for Ireland.

Why is this an issue for you, anyway? You don't collect amiibo and are constantly grousing about them existing.

I don't just write Ireland as my address. Other people do live here too you know.

  2. Nintendo: Wii U has a lot of quality games, NX shows company’s commitment to dedicated game hardware

The Financial Post has posted a few more comments from Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s vice president of sales and marketing. Moffitt mainly commented on how the Wii U has plenty of quality games, and how NX shows the company’s commitment to dedicated gaming hardware.

Here’s a quick roundup of what was shared:

On how Wii U still has a lot to offer…

“Our job and our goal is through our first-party games, to build the installed base up so that it makes it easy for third-party publisher to bring their third-party content to our systems.”

On the quality of Wii U games…

“If you look at just one indicator of game quality, which is Metacritic score and the user score, and what the gold standard we believe is an 85 Metacritic score and an 85 user score, meaning both critics and game fans alike thought the game was great. When you look at that standard measure there are more games to play on Wii U than there are on either of the two current generation platforms. As a measure of quality, there’s great quality to be enjoyed on Wii U. And that we think is maybe more important than just the number of games and where they come from (whether it’s first-party or third-party).”

On announcing NX a few months ago…

“Our first focus is maximize the sales potential of Wii U and 3DS and we have great content coming that we think will help us do that. But we also have an eye for the future. One of the reasons for mentioning NX in the financial announcement was linked to the reveal of our partnership with DeNA about the mobile gaming initiative.”

“We wanted to ensure that our game fans know that Nintendo remains very committed to the dedicated game device business. While we recognize the appeal of the mobile gaming space and the broad number of units that are out there, and that we wanted to develop content for smart devices, at the same time we want to remind fans that we remain committed to a dedicated gaming platform.”

See Nintendo like using Metacritic too.

  3. I think most of them were, apart from Rosalina.

The restocked clearly weren't nationwide. Not a single GAME, Argos or Toys R Us near me got any stock of Dedede, Little Mac or Shulk.

They're not available in Ireland either. Only Argos have Shulk and King Dedede available for reservation next week. And only Smyths have put Little Mac back on their website but it's not available, maybe it'll be available soon.

  4. What got restocked exactly? I have a fair idea, but just to be clear. Shulk, King Dedede, the Fire Emblem characters(Robin, Lucina, Marth and Ike), some Little Macs, Dark Pit and Palutena?

Weren't the Fire Emblem characters planned for last month to coincide with Codename Steam? Don't answer, they were.

  6. Yeah, that was the general opinion I got from most of the people I met while I lived in Ireland.

Now don't get me wrong, Portumna in Ireland is full of many, many, many drunkards. But when they live in the middle of nowhere, I don't blame them one bit.

I almost went mad living there...

Living in the sticks isn't the best place to get a good impression of Ireland. I wouldn't want to live in Portumna either. Guinness is very popular. I just don't like it myself. But yes Ireland is full of many, many, many drunkards.

Now back to the game. While the sales are good, I hope Nintendo don't take this as a message that we don't care about voice chat. I said I was buying it to support a new franchise and that I'd like to see more risk taking. I said I'd voice my disquiet on Miiverse but never did. So off I go to Miiverse and on the day they've changed the rules.

  7. Wii U has performed worst in Europe hasn't it? France and Germany it is better but in the UK Wii u is a ghost.

France, yes Wii U is doing very well there. Germany I don't know about. UK is tumbleweed territory alright.

    Amazing, isn't it?

Japan generally hate shooters, so it's truly amazing that this has done so well over there.

It appears that Nintendo have cracked how to do a shooter that Japan would like.

They didn't do a shooter I liked though. That still goes to Resi Evil 4 Wii Edition.

Give the Japanese the opportunity to torture marine life and they'll jump at it. :heh:

  8. Nintendo's official statement regarding sales passing 1 million.

“Nintendo has hauled up its nets, tallied its catch and crossed another milestone. Sales of Splatoon, the new squid-based game for Nintendo’s Wii U home console, have crossed 1 million worldwide, according to Nintendo’s internal figures. That figure includes more than 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, more than 230,000 sold in Europe and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia and New Zealand.

“Ever since Splatoon launched on May 29 in the United States, we’ve seen thousands of people go online to have fun in this colorful, chaotic competition,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “This milestone puts us in a nice position as we prepare to launch 11 more exclusive Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games before the end of the year, plus amiibo, digital offerings and games from our third-party partners.”

I would have expected better sales in Europe than Japan.

  9. Sorry that it's inaccurate. I was thinking about games like Super Metroid and other VC games. Remember when they were 30p. They must have sold ridiculous amounts but would they count towards this list? There's a couple of other Wii U games that might make the list before the generation is over, e.g. Lego City Undercover should and maybe ZombiU.

  10. With Splatoon having reached the 1,000,000 mark, I thought I'd have a look at the list of Wii U games to likewise do so and threw in the competition by way of comparison.

    Wii U Million Sellers List- 10 in total;

    1. Mario Kart 8
    2. Nintendo Land
    3. New Super Mario Bros. U
    4. Super Mario 3D World
    5. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
    6. New Super Luigi U
    7. Wii Party U
    8. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
    9. Hyrule Warriors
    10. Splatoon

    Playstation 4 Million Sellers List - 4 in total;

    1. Killzone Shadow Fall
    2. Bloodborne
    3. InFamous Second Son
    4. The Last of Us Remastered

    Xbox1 Million Sellers List- 5 in total;

    1. Titanfall
    2. Call of Duty: Ghosts
    3. Battlefield 4
    4. Dead Rising 3
    5. Forza Motorsport 5

Not bad for a console that's severely lagging behind the competition in terms of hardware sold. The Wii U is also the only console to have more than one 2,000,000+ seller(MK8 and Smash Bros.).

  11. Whoa, there was absolutely no chatter about Wii U, but people are still talking about the Wii, maybe Nintendo should start making more games for the old console again. Or are they just talking about the one and only @Wii

Maybe it was the Wii. The GOTY Just Dance 2016 is coming out in October and it's trending everywhere.

Someone should break the bad news to Ubisoft about wi-fi. :blank:

  12. REGGIE - MORE AMIIBO ON THE WAY, DIFFERENT FORM FACTORS CONSIDERED, SUPPLY ISSUES DISCUSSED, TRADITIONAL SOFTWARE IMPORTANT

Coming from a Polygon interview with Reggie Fils-Aime...

"Amiibo is really a supply chain challenge and process right now: Getting the core design, building the mold, managing the production. Our amiibo are hand-painted. So it's a very intricate supply chain. The people involved in doing that are not the same people involved in creating the games and creating the implementation.

There's no issue with our first- and second-party development. In fact, I don't know if you've been to Kyoto recently, but we've got a whole new R&D building that is full of developers; whether they are software developers or hardware developers. So, we're increasing our capacity to create more content. We're focused on creating great content.

The toys-to-life category is most developed here in the United States. Early on, we challenged our internal supply chain that this was going to be big and we needed to scale it up. The fact that we had supply challenges probably says we didn't think big enough. But certainly the demand has been exceedingly strong. We think this category and Nintendo's execution in the category can be significant. We are going to come out with a regular pacing of waves.

We are going to continue to launch these, there are many more figures to support. We are going to continue to innovate with different form factors and our developers are going to continue to find unique ways to leverage the amiibo. Our developers are having fun in finding ways to leverage the amiibo functionality across all of our different games. You're going to continue to see a range of executions and range of different functionality."

    http://gonintendo.com/stories/236834-reggie-more-amiibo-on-the-way-different-form-factors-considere

    http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/23/8833453/fils-aime-nintendo-loves-its-amiibo-but-video-games-will-always-come

More and more amiibo. Don't sort out the issues with previous waves, just keep spilling amiibo onto the market, make them rare and keep demand up. It doesn't matter if people can't get them because there'll be another new wave out after that. Is there even 1 game left that doesn't have amiibo something in it? XCX, but then it's not really suitable as the characters are unknown, there's no main protagonist and most of that audience I'd say would tell Nintendo to f#ck off, myself included. So now sites are starting to cotton on that Nintendo care more about amiibo than software. I said there were 18 new amiibo at E3, I was wrong, it's more. And of course there'll be Starfox amiibo.

This focus on amiibo crap could come back to bite Nintendo in the @$$. It happened with the Wii.

I hate these things with a passion. They're a scurge on GAMING.

  13. The Wii U is likely to go a year without a AAA game. Smash Bros. being the last game. Xenoblade Chronicles X, which I can't wait for but isn't everyones cup of tea will probably be the next game and possibly the last if Zelda doesn't come out on Wii U. All the games in the interim have averaged 80% or less. Starfox I can nearly say with confidence won't be a AAA game. Fatal Frame will probably be an 80 something game.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker - 81%

    Mario Party 10 - 66%

Mario vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars - 70%

Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush - 73%

    Splatoon - 81%

    Yoshi's Woolly World - 79%

Seems like they're just going through the motions. Did I miss a game? I don't think so.

  14. Yeah, was about to say the same thing.

The only thing a Yoshi game should be directly compared to are other Yoshi games.

There's a lot of shooters out there, but that in no way should affect a review of a new one.

It's a poor reason to mark something down in a review.

Also, someone mentioned something about someone saying the "controls are too perfect"?

Can someone get me a quote or something? I can't believe this without some kind of context!

Seeing as you asked, I went looking.

As expected from a Nintendo platformer, the controls are immeasurably perfect and dependable. Along with the usual high-jumps, tongue-whips and ground-pounds, Yoshi can also carry balls of yarn with him, which can be tossed at the press of a button. This manoeuvre requires timing, as once you hold down the throw button, a reticule will run up and down the screen, which will determine the projectile's trajectory upon the button's release. Care and attention is necessary, as Yoshi only has a max capacity of five yarns, and they are handy in many scenarios, such as activating secret platforms and wrapping piranhas in cotton muzzles. Since the vast majority of foes are made of wool, Yoshi can pull them in with his tongue, and instantly digest them into new balls of yarn. It's probably not worth mentioning where the balls sprout from.

The excellent controls only makes Woolly World easier to finish without many issues. In fact, if you have experience playing the likes of Super Mario World or Yoshi's Island, it's likely you'll be able to breeze through the game's first half on autopilot: Run right, line your jumps along the craniums of Shy Guys and Koopas, eat foes with a whip of Yoshi's tongue, and reach the exit on the furthermost-right point of the level. No real peril or heroics; just violent tourism.

How is that a negative, @Serebii?

  15. Well, that's a problem of where you live, not thegamecollection's problem. I've never heard of any retailer who would send out international orders before their own country.

Well if they'd matched Shopto's delivery it could have arrived here by Friday. Thegamecollection said why they wouldn't send it out earlier because it was "to avoid games being leaked early". It's hardly leaked early when it would be in transit somewhere over the Irish Sea. Where I live isn't the problem. It's their delivery policies that's the problem.

  16. I cancelled my order with thegamecollection. I told them if they can't have it here by Friday then I want my money back. I'm not having another Splatoon on my hands. That didn't arrive until the following Tuesday. I said they treat international customers badly, sending games out on the same date as UK orders knowing full well it takes longer to deliver. Here some of ye again are going to have the Yoshi's Woolly World tomorrow when thegamecollection won't send it out until Thursday. I'll get the amiibo bundle from Smyths instore on Friday. Sure it's more inconvenient and expensive but it's just one of the many joys of being an Irish consumer.
