Splatoon update 1.3.0 coming on July 1st.

Splatoon version 1.3.0 releasing next week

A new update for Splatoon is releasing next week, Nintendo has announced. The game will be brought up to version 1.3.0.

Splatoon’s latest update makes improvements and changes to the Splatfest, weapons, and gear.

    Splatfest Amendments

    – If it takes too long to find another team, you can fight the same team again.

    * Even if playing against the same team, Splatfest Points can still be earned.

    * Only the opposing team’s results will be counted at the conclusion of a Splatfest battle.

    – If you begin the software before the Splatfest start time, an adjustment will be made where you may be able to begin 5 minutes before the start time (from the start time, you can participate in all areas).

    * The purpose of this is to reduce congestion that would occur immediately following the start.

    – The number of Super Sea Snail increases when you acquire the “Charisma” and “Eternity” titles when the team that voted loses.

    Special Weapon Adjustments

    – Inkstrike: When used, the mark that shows the impact zone has been greatly changed.

    – Kraken: If attacked in the middle of using this, they will be repelled stronger than before.

    Gear Power Adjustments

    – Ninja Squid: The speed of the squid dash has been made slower than before.

    – Stealth Jump: The time taken to charge has been made longer.

    – Ink Resistance: The negative effects of movement and damage that enemy ink has on you when walked on has been reduced.

    Other

    – Various game content has been fixed to better customer experience.

Splatoon version 1.3.0 is coming to Japan on July 1. It’s probable that the patch will be releasing on the evening of June 30 in North America.

Note that in order to battle others online, you’ll need to have this latest version of Splatoon installed.

    Discussion - Splatoon's Splatfest

  2. Zelda maker. Metroid maker. Mario kart maker. Really hope and expect Nintendo to develop it as a brand.

But then i thought we'd get more remix gsmes...

A Mario Kart Maker would definitely be possible but Zelda and Metroid they're a lot harder. Would they be 2D or 3D? They can be story driven, Zelda more so, what about bosses? They're more important in said games. A level in Mario takes a minute, maybe 2 or 3. How would you set up Metroid or Zelda? Just a section? A full game? Mario Kart could be done in 3D, the other 2 would have to be done in 2D. It's too complicated otherwise.

  3. NINTENDO DETAILS WHY SOME OF THEIR GAMES GET VOICE CHAT WHILE OTHERS DON'T

Coming from a NintendoEnthusiast interview with Nintendo representative Julie Gagnon...

“The thing with Splatoon is that the game is so visual and we really feel that the people in the game do not need voice chat in order to communicate with each other because we have ‘oh, stay here’ or ‘come here’ icons. We have many ways to communicate in the game. Plus, with the gamepad and the view, you can easily see if one of the members of your team is in trouble, or if there is a part of the map that you need to cover. So, this is something that we made a decision on so that the game can appeal to the maximum number of players. So, ultimately, the developers need to decide, depending on the features and the game itself, whether voice chat is included.”

    http://gonintendo.com/stories/237093-nintendo-details-why-some-of-their-games-get-voice-chat-while-oth

    http://nintendoenthusiast.com/news/nintendo-shares-why-some-games-get-voice-chat-while-others-dont/

See now. It's stuff like this that I cannot and will not let pass. It's complete BS. Does anybody use those awful text blurbs on the d pad? You cannot tell very often at times if your teammate is in trouble by looking at the map. Countless times after respawning I've used a super jump to their location just as they die only to be blown apart on landing as well. Looking at the map while in the game is very distracting. It's awful PR, sorry but she's talking absolute b0110cks and Splatoon is probably the game that needs it more than any other Nintendo title.

Edit: And did I miss the 'oh, stay here’ icon? At least know what you're talking about lady.

  4. KIDS REACT TO MARIO VS MINECRAFT

    Tis funny.

Breaking news from Nintendo's AGM. I'll keep updating it as it happens for as long as I'm awake.

Details from Nintendo’s 75th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders

Nintendo’s 75th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders is currently progress. We’ll be posting everything that was shared during the event below, courtesy of translations from Cheesemeister.

    Intro

    – New 3DS selling well, but the old 3DS did not, so HW sales were 8.73m. SW selling well. Pokemon, Smash numbers.

    – Mario Kart 8 at 5.11m, Smash Wii U at 3.65m. Wii U HW 2.88m.

    – Entertainment has value, centering on dedicated platforms. Providing premium experiences only available on such. Making more SW.

    – Xenoblade for New 3DS released. Rhythm Heaven, FE: if released. Supporting 1st-party and strong 3rd-party SW.

    – On Wii U, Splatoon, Yoshi’s Woolly World, and Super Mario Maker are being released.

    – Card-based and yarn amiibo are being released. The NFC dongle for old 3DS and 2DS being released. Looking to increase demand.

    – Supporting amiibo on Smash 3DS with the NFC dongle.

    – About DeNA, starting smart device apps this year. Smart devices different from dedicated consoles, so even w/ same IP, adapting play styles to suit smart devices will maximize value and drive the expansion of the gaming population.

    – Continuing with film adaptations and character merchandising to increase mind-share of IPs. Ex: Universal agreement. More later.

    – Making a marketing appeal for the IPs through experiences only possible at theme parks.

    – Making progress with QOL. (No details given.)

    – 1st measure: distribution of dividends.

    – 2nd measure: selection of board members.

    Q&A

Q1: Is there a breakdown of packaged vs. download sales of 3DS and Wii U software?

There’s a difference in value on packaged and download versions of 3DS and Wii U software.

Iwata: We believe download versions have the same value and should be priced the same. Some companies price DLs cheaper due to the there being no used sales or store price reductions. We stress the value of Nintendo software, so we price the same. Purchases can be made through the eShop or with download cards bought at stores. We typically don’t discount, but stores may. There are different risks with each. Packaged versions carry inventory risk. Download versions aren’t activated without going through the register first. Being on-demand, there is no inventory risk. Nintendo cannot control the price of packaged versions. Doing so would infringe the law. We know some aren’t satisfied w/o a diff. We plan to provide some benefit with the new membership service starting in the fall.

Q2: Would it be possible to change the minimum stock purchase from 100 to 10 or 20 shares? It’s expensive for individuals to buy.

Reducing the minimum stock purchase would increase the number of shareholders, and may possibly increase the price. Right now, it’s limited by regulation. Changes to Tokyo Stock Exchange market regulations weren’t possible. Mins can’t be changed, so a split would be required. A split might be a plus for some, but undesired by others. Will consider.

Q3: Consecutive launches of 3DS and Wii U were a failure. 3DS recovered with a revised price, but Wii U can’t. Will NX suffer too?

As you say, the launches didn’t go well. Especially the Wii U. The 3DS was restructured domestically with several measures. The Wii U has not been restructured. Looking back, the DS didn’t sell very well right away, but was propelled by Brain Training. Ideally sales would start well, but only Wii has really done that. NX was announced as a new platform alongside the DeNA venture. The NX was announced then to indicate that we are not retreating from game platforms and will continue the hardware business. Normally, the announcement would’ve been made later. It was like revealing a magic trick ahead of time. New proposals require surprises to follow. Such information on the NX won’t be announced until 2016. No announcements today. Third-party hardware selections are based primarily upon install base numbers. Several unannounced collaborations with 3rd-parties are making progress.

Q4: Randy Johnson’s number 51 should probably be retired (baseball), but it’d overlap with Ichiro’s number. Any thoughts?

NOA owns the Seattle Mariners as passed down by former President Yamauchi. It was unexpected for a Japanese business to own a Major League team, so we plan to continue valuing it. Randy Johnson and Ichiro’s numbers are not decided by Nintendo. Personally, I’m friendly with Ichiro and would like to cheer him on, but that doesn’t answer your question.

Q6: About E3, there were few software titles shown this year. Why were only titles to be released this year shown?

Miyamoto: Regarding E3, what you said is partially true. It’s available on the Internet, so it’s a global announcement. However, it’s normally an event aimed at the NA business. It’s not only for titles coming soon; last year, experiments shown. This year’s announcements didn’t include licensee software, so the number was low. This criticism is understood. Sony and Microsoft had many announcements of future titles that were not playable. VR lined the floor as a dream exhibit. There were lots of video demos of those titles. Nintendo played them. They received high praise as living room game consoles. We collected lots of data and positive impressions.

Iwata: We realize Nintendo fans in Japan were disappointed. It’s a US trade show, so what’s included there is done with both global and American audiences in mind. This is what Nintendo’s booth looked like. It was different from other companies'; everyone was smiling, having fun with games. We didn’t hold a press conference, but had a Digital Event. Before that, we held the Nintendo World Championships. NWC was very lively. We want to correct the lack of satisfaction with E3 streams, but as a whole, reactions weren’t all bad. As Miyamoto said regarding short-term E3 announcements, we decide this on a yearly basis. We talk about future titles when needed. There are years when products are more finished and we can communicate their appeal. That may explain the difference this year.

Q7: As a game fan, I’m worried about the split between the NX and Wii U.

Iwata: We can’t talk about the NX. If we do, competitors may take our ideas and customers won’t be surprised. This would not be beneficial for the company or its shareholders. The NX is new hardware, and will start from 0. However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off SW for previous HW upon the release of a new machine is inefficient. We will continue making 3DS/Wii SW while preparing for the NX. We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U.

Q8: Apps for smart devices will be released this year, but will they be paid or freemium? What’s the target age group?

Iwata: Smart devices include phones and tablets, which have large global install bases. Profits on big hits are very large. However, this isn’t an easy world in which just adding famous Nintendo characters will result in a big hit. As for monetization, there are regular sales and paid items or “free to play” systems. I don’t think that “free to play” is a good word, so I call it “free to start.” Regular sales aren’t succeeding. Apps for smart devices are highly competitive, and priced low. Some are discounted 90%. As for free to start, it’s possible to sell better progress rates or rare items. It’s becoming a societal problem. Globally, there are more that charge small prices to many users. Nintendo wants to make many apps that are global hits. We want to target many users irrespective of age, gender, game experience, or region to earn small payments from many users. We’re planning titles for this year and next, but not a large number of them. Console SW have big impacts on release, & slow down. Smart device apps’ users gradually increase. Development doesn’t end. I want to raise a few of these.

Q9: Using a player’s face in a game is usually just of the person holding the machine, but will you show others’ faces? I want to buy lots of Nintendo merchandise, but there’s no Nintendo bread. There is candy. Could there be Uniqlo shirts, or shoes?

For character faces, Mii characters have been used since the Wii. They have lots of freedom and appear in games. Using faces resembling your favorite hero or heroine is difficult. Is it better to have more licensed products for the sake of it? There’s quality control. Characters become consumable. Nintendo wants to raise its IP over the long-term. Making positive use of them isn’t in the quantity, but in increasing quality.

Q10: Your company appears to hold lots of its own stock. How do you plan to use it?

Iwata: Yes, the company holds more than usual. It’s a point of discussion. Famicom is 32 this year. We’re approaching a turning point, so we’d like people to hold. We’re thinking of redeeming more and such upon achieving results. We’re thinking of the timing to use our shares for mergers & acquisitions and partnerships.

Q11: Are you planning to make more use of Nintendo characters? Pokemon anime is popular worldwide.

Iwata: This Q&A overlaps with the previous one. We consider this internally and think globally. Short-term hits may be oversupplied, creating cases of excess stock and character value damage.

Q12: How are Virtual Console sales? Some SW can only be acquired on Virtual Console. Can anything be done about discontinued SW? I was also happy to hear about Splatoon reaching 1m sales.

Iwata: We’re happy that Splatoon, in which new squid characters squirt ink, has been received well and sold 1m quickly. We do not disclose individual Virtual Console sales numbers, as there would be no end to them. Virtual Console releases require testing, checking for present-day issues, and other various work. It’s not that we don’t want to put in the effort, but there’s new SW development, so we can’t use our limited headcount just on old products. With a few exceptions, we have the rights to Nintendo titles and can release them, but negotiating 3rd-party SW isn’t easy. We want to strive to continue providing a satisfactory Virtual Console lineup.

O.K. Who was it that let the crazy b@st@rd in the room for question 9? Nintendo bread? Get out! There's only so many questions allowed be asked and you've wasted 1 of them.

There's your consumable characters or maybe Nintendo are toast. :heh:

That question reminded me of last years AGM and the shareholder who didn't understand video games and why shareholders were asking Nintendo questions about them, so I went looking for it and found an article with other stupid questions from previous AGM's.

I hope that wasn't the same shareholder.

  5. Project CARS Studio Head “Really Dislikes Nintendo Users”

Project CARS gets more heat that most third-party developers from Nintendo fans. Developer Slightly Mad Studios is not blameless in the matter — they initially promised a Wii U version of the game in their crowdfunding campaign and made numerous statements regarding the “fine” progress on the Nintendo version. Then, out of the blue, they put the Wii U version of Project CARS on an indefinite hiatus, pointing to serious optimization issues.

With this in mind, many Wii U owners and backers have flocked to the Project CARS forums asking for answers. While most responses have been civil from the developers, Slightly Mad’s Head of Studio, Ian Bell, had enough with one particular Wii U rant and went on to say “we really dislike Nintendo users.” Check out the entire conversation below.

Project CARS has been released for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC — Slightly Mad is hoping to bring over the game and series to Nintendo NX.

  6. This game is getting better and better. I was highly skeptical of it when it was first shown but it has slowly convinced and won me over. I will definitely be buying this now. 80% sure it'll be on day 1. I just wish there were more great games.

  7. Reggie: Nintendo’s mobile games can offer “a positive experience”, drive people back to core systems

Back in 2010, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime made some comments about mobile gaming in which he told Polygon that, on these devices, people don’t seem to stick to a single title.

Here’s what he said at the time:

“Clearly, it doesn’t look like their platform is a viable profit platform for game development because so many of the games are free versus paid downloads. If our games represent a range between snacks of entertainment and full meals depending on the type of game, (Apple’s) aren’t even a mouthful, in terms of the gaming experience you get.”

Polygon spoke with Reggie at E3 2015 last week and said that Nintendo hasn’t changed its opinion on the nature of gaming on smart devices. He also believes that mobile gaming can offer “a positive experience” while driving people back to the Big N’s core systems.

“We’re going to do it in a partnership with DeNA. DeNA has technical knowledge that we’re leveraging. They have a rapid iteration process to drive improvement in the content that we’re going to leverage, but Nintendo is going to create the content. We’ve announced that Mr. Kono, from Mario Kart fame, is going to be our lead developer on this. And so from that standpoint things haven’t changed. It’s our IP, we’re going to leverage it and we do believe done properly it’s going to drive a positive experience with the IP and drive people back to our core video system business whether it’s handheld or console.”

    http://nintendoeverything.com/reggie-nintendos-mobile-games-can-offer-a-positive-experience-drive-people-back-to-core-systems/

Nintendo hasn't changed its take on the nature of smartphone games, despite DeNA deal

  8. Smyths have the amiibo bundle for €70. The pre order just went live yesterday but that's too pricey and as others have said September is rather away in the distance. €60 is the norm and it's what I'm paying for the Yoshi bundle tomorrow. They're nicer amiibo, more expensive than the usual amiibo and the Super Mario Maker amiibos are rather fugly.

  9. Details from Sakurai’s new Famitsu column, only “several more” Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS DLC characters planned

Masahiro Sakurai once again published a new column in the latest issue of Famitsu. In his piece, Sakurai writes about the new downloadable content that came to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS.

Details from the column can be found below. If you’d like a full translation, head on over to Source Gaming.

    – Sakurai mentions that the 3DS “isn’t suited for successive downloads, and there are people who don’t have Wi-Fi in their homes and go to convenience stores to connect, so we made sure to put a lot of forethought into the process.”

    – He’s amazed that Ryu is in Smash, and was excited to work on him

    – Sakurai put a bunch of effort into the small details

    – When putting Ryu in Smash, there are limits based on the number of buttons and the control scheme

    – Composer Yoko Shimomura and illustrator AKIMAN each played a little bit of Ryu in Smash

    – Shimomura exclaimed “Even I can do a Shoryuken!”

    – AKIMAN was shocked, saying “are you sure it’s okay to make performing a Shoryuken so easy?”

    – The thing that left an impression on Sakurai when making Roy was recording his lines

    – Same actor from Melee (Fukuyama) was used

    – Fukuyama remembered details from the recording session for Melee extremely well like the names for characters, and even the other actors

    – Sakurai was happy about this since he’s an actor who’s done a ton of projects since Melee

    – Lucas, Roy, and Ryu were made before the ballot was created

    – Sakurai “had a grasp on their popularity and demand, though”

“From now until the end, it is going to be fan service”

    – Since Sakurai can’t keep the team together forever, there will only be several more characters

    – Sakurai asks for fans’ patience in making more content

  10. In Japan, Famitsu are holding a Splatoon: Squid Fashion Contest. The idea is to design a full set of gear:- headgear, clothes, and shoes.

    l_555b169c5c8bd.jpg

The winning entrants will have their designs included in a future update of the game. The competition closes on June 11th and the winners chosen later that month.

    http://www.famitsu.com/news/201505/21078513.html

It would be nice if we have an equivalent competition in Europe. We will afterall most likely buy more copies of the game than Japan.

The competition winner has been announced.

    http://www.famitsu.com/news/201506/25081658.html

As it stands the costume is for Japan only.

There's more runner-up costumes at the link above. They get signed posters from the developers.

  11. I cancelled my thegamecollection game only order and yesterday morning I got a confirmation e-mail that it was cancelled and I'd receive a refund soon but that was followed a few hours later by a your order has been despatched. ??? Nothing doing on my bank balance but that could take a few days. Am I getting a refund, should I contact them only for them to ask me to return the game? I've arrangements to buy the amiibo bundle here in Ireland instead. Chances are now that it will arrive tomorrow.

  12. In fairness, I usually find that Nintendo get the controls for their games pretty spot on most of the time :hehe: It's the people holding the controller that are generally the problem.. :heh:

I'm not the problem. The controls aren't right, they're way too cumbersome. They're not broken but neither are they perfect. The Wii remote and nunchuk was perfect for shooters.

  13. Monolith Soft Would Work On Zelda Wii U If Needed

Today we have found out that Monolith Soft were one of the teams to help Nintendo out with Splatoon. Now the company says they would work alongside Nintendo to help out on The Legend of Zelda title for Wii U, if they were needed. Tetsuya Takahashi, the director of Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenogears and Xenosaga, says that his team is always on hand for support if required.

So with the team’s experience now in the open-world genre, I’m curious if you can offer any tips to the Zelda Wii U team? Is there some knowledge that can be transferred there? I know Monolith helped work on Skyward Sword.

Yokota: So as it turns out, in the development of this game we had a lot of opportunities to prepare reports and feedback on the technology and the different kinds of problems that we encountered. When we’re able to share those documents internally, they’re going to go to all the other teams so they’ll be able to draw from them and I hope that those guys working on that game will be able to benefit as well.

Is there any chance that you’ll be supporting that team once again after this project is fully done?

Takahashi: I mean I suppose it’s possible, but we haven’t heard anything. I would want to say that Monolith Soft is always available and we would love to help anytime people ask us.

It must be refreshing for the team to work on something from Nintendo to cleanse the Xenoblade out of your system every once a while.

Takahashi: Sure, absolutely. It would be nice.

It's a pity they weren't given more control over Skyward Sword instead of being a lackey. It would have turned out well had they held the reins.

  14. Plenty of rumours flying around about NX.

Rumor: NX isn’t Android-based, but can emulate Android games

Building off rumors concerning Nintendo and Amazon’s relationship comes additional speculation about NX. Here’s the latest:

    – When Nintendo announced their mobile games, Amazon was very interested in having the games also be on the Amazon App store.

    – Nintendo games will be on the Amazon store on day one, or shortly after Play Store and App Store.

    – Amazon is asking Nintendo what they need to do to have Amazon App Store games play on Nintendo consoles

    – Amazon got the impression that Nintendo is thinking about emulating Android games.

    – Nintendo will not create an Android system, but instead will emulate Android games. It’s not something that’s confirmed, but just an interpretation of the conversations.

All of today’s rumors stem from reports made by Revogamers. Those who missed the original post can read up on it here.

    http://nintendoeverything.com/rumor-nx-isnt-android-based-but-can-emulate-android-games/

    http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1069727

Rumor: Potential Nintendo and Disney deal, Nintendo mobile games on the Amazon Appstore

Spanish outlet Revogamers has put up a pair of new rumors about Nintendo. We’re generally wary about posting speculation, but the site did publish accurate reports last year about amiibo and Nintendo characters joining Skylanders.

In any case, here’s what Revogamers passed along:

Nintendo & Disney negotiate a big deal: films, videogames and interactive toys and merchansing

    – amiibo are not included in Disney Infinity 3.0 because both companies have yet to set an agreement

    – Disney wanted to have a Mario figure in Infinity, but Nintendo refused to lend their most important character

    – This is not a dead end in the negotiation

    – Both companies have been in conversations for years, as Disney has asked Nintendo many times to have Mario in films and other media

    – Under new Nintendo rules (licensing characters) options for Disney are widened: they are talking about Mario starring in films, probably something related to Wreck it Ralph

    – Disney is after Nintendo to have a game with Mario and Mickey together

    – Nintendo is open to it but wants to set their own pace for it

Nintendo mobile games on Amazon Appstore

    – Nintendo will offer their mobile games through Amazon Appstore

    – The American company was the one approaching their Japanese partner for the deal

    – In response, Nintendo asked Amazon about Amazon TV games

    – It is not clear what is this for, but people at Amazon think that there is something related to Android in Nintendo’s future

    – Nintendo is moving some of their data out of Amazon Cloud Servers, probably to DeNA ones

Obviously both of these rumors aren’t at all confirmed currently. I’ll let you be the ones to decide if they hold any truth!
