  1. Not having a proper account (you can not call it that for the one reason everyone knows, but you can call it some kind of account) is the only reason why I haven't bought a Wii U yet. It also pains my heart every time I have to buy something from the eshop on 3DS, because I know it's not safe. Otherwise I'd have gone all-digital on 3DS from the start.

  2. I can't think of much bad about 3DS (save for Nintendo's account system, but that's another story), it is after all pretty much a DS 2. The Wii U on the other hand is not a Wii 2 because of the new gamepad. My most played games on 3DS are Pokémon XY and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. Neither of these games are innovative in any way or couldn't have been done on DS. Of course they could both work as well on Vita. Speaking of Vita I often do think about how much better of a console it is than 3DS, them games just simply happened to go towards the more popular system.

Oh yeah, it's also region locked. There can be no forgiveness for such travesty.

  3. I got the Welcome version from dazzybee and started playing. I noticed that the currency in the supermarket is euros so I was slightly freaked out that I was going to have to pay real money for in-game items, which isn't uncommon these days ::)

Anyway this demo version is really short as expected. You can only solve 5 problems and from then on nothing really happens. I'm definitely not picking this game up for full price, I don't think there's enough to keep me playing. The demo version doesn't allow for QR codes and since it can't use Miis from Mii parade where I have hundreds and only from the Mii maker where I have only one, I'm not bothered to create new ones.

Can you populate the game through streepass? I go to plenty of events where there are dozens of people with 3DS and all my games are constantly full of streetpass hits. Just not sure how popular this game is.

  4. Secret bases look cool. I probably won't bother making crazy bases myself but I'll happily check others. On a side note, I started playing White as I totally skipped gen 5, but I love this. Now I'm kicking myself in the head for missing out. I got burned out after gen 4 as I felt that the games are too slow and tedious. XY renewed my interest a lot but I shouldn't have skipped... Great thing is that I have a lot to do while waiting for Ruby and Sapphire!

  5. As funny as those kids react videos are, they always use the same kids who are pretty good at acting and smart talkers, I wish they interviewed random kids so it wouldn't feel so scripted. Still it had a few good points :)

  6. Pokémon XY was really easy but also the accessibility made me get into competitive gaming. I guess with the xp share they could have had slightly higher level enemies. I enjoyed the challenge in the older games but now I enjoy the quick leveling and super easy EV training more. But yes, the things you mentioned would make it more fun, there were way too many healers in XY when previously you had to go to a Pokémon Center.

Also HM are incredibly stupid outside surf and fly. I hope that age old mechanic can some day be removed.

  7. European 3DS comes with a charger for 220-240V. It won't work in Japan unless you use a step-up converter but those are usually bulky and expensive. Do not use a simple plug adapter that only changes the pins to match their sockets, those do work with 99% of mobile devices because they come with chargers that work from 100 to 240V eliminating this problem (cell phones, laptops etc.). If you want to game in Japan you need to buy a Japanese charger (will work with your EU 3DS) or a third party USB charger.

I'm actually thinking of getting a Vita while being there. They have those nice colours that are exclusive there like lime green/white, and of course it has no region lock...

  8. Ugh, I'm going to Japan in August and I realized that the 3DS charger is pretty much the only device in the world that isn't universal, ie. it only runs 230v50hz unlike even home consoles like PS3, making it even more region locked than I thought (= have to waste money on another charger). I wonder how many non-europeans have fried their 3DS chargers here thinking it will work through a one dollar plug adapter...

  9. Does the box and manual in UK include four languages or English only? They changed the packaging this year here starting with Yoshi's New Island. I think Nordic and UK markets are again with the same SKUs as it was during the N64 era.

  10. It's getting there.

Nintendo can do that for you, we just can't do it ourselves

It'd be great if this was true. Last I read Nintendo's response from the American forums, it was that there is "no way for Nintendo to unlink NNID from 3DS systems remotely" in case you lost your 3DS with your NNID linked to it. If the situation is changed then that's great but would be nice to have a source.

Also, if you format your Wii U and log back in with your old NNID, can you redownload your purchases? What if you format your Wii U and sell it, and then buy a new Wii U console, can you get your games back? I don't think so.

  11. To clarify, do we now have the same system that we have on apple devices? So everything is synched to an account? I.e. if my Wii U breaks/gets stolen, will I be able to download everything back for free on my next Wii U?

No, we most definitely do not have such a system yet.

  12. What good is having games tied to your NNID if they make it so simple to destroy everything you've purchased. Lose your 3DS, lose your NNID forever (at least from 3DS use) because you can never activate that same NNID on another system without the original system right there with you.

  13. With this, and the guy on GAF who deleted his NNID via his Wii U (he ignored the warnings and thought he was just removing it) who lost everything that was on his 3DS, we now have true confirmation that the NNIDs are cross platform and that games are tied to them :)

He lost everything for good though right?

  14. Official euro price for most console games is 59.95€ or 69.95€ but I'd be hard pressed to pay the higher price, especially for a digital version of a game. I usually wait for the inevitable sales. Latest games I paid full price for that I can remember are Dark Souls 2 and Pokémon Y.

Do you think that if Xbox One had stuck to the no used games-plan (and forgetting that stupid Gamestop-exclusive used games market), games would be slightly cheaper for it?

  15. It's got to be a repackaged Wii, Nintendo'd have nothing to do except release old games and reap the profits. Don't charge too much though because piracy is so rife in China. I just have a hard time imagining who would buy games over here, when everybody copies openly. You can buy copied games at Game Stores for heck's sake.

Nintendo does do legal business in Taiwan though. Wii has a few games translated into traditional Chinese (it was probably their test run), and 3DS is their main product with multiple games in Chinese for it. What's absolutely amazing is that 3DS has six region locks, and Taiwan/HK is one of them... I bet most people have a Japanese 3DS for games...
