  3. Red Steel Thread

As Nina Simone once sang.. "its a new dawn its a new day" I popped RS back into the Wii this morning adjusted the sensitivity back to the default Middle level and low and behold - I've have a new gaming experience. 1hr 29mins to be exact of new gaming experience! To anyone deciding on buying this game - and have read my previous earlier post about RS (and been put off) - rest assured that although graphically a lot can be improved it offers a solid shooter experience. Take time adjusting to your desired sensi setting and work wth the game. My second sword fight (the one where you learn to block - lasted about 20mins) - doh! we kept dancing around and I kept missing the block window of opportunity so we didnt progress. This enemy as well as your own energy keeps replenishing - so it was a long slog until I cracked it with the timing. Its a good game - I'm enjoying it and glad I own it. Have just finished level 1 and feel satisfied with my purchase and looking forward to LEVEL 2. So that shoud tell you something (and no I'm not being paid by Ubi...hahaaha)... GAME will not be getting it as a Pre-Owned title afterall. Well not anytime soon anyway. 3 Main points about RS to bare in mind: Work with the controls (give yourself time to sink into the mechanics of the gameplay) Don't expect this as a showcase title for the rendering power of the Wii (its basically a PS2 but with a unique level of cheese, style and control) LOVE IT - DON'T HATE IT Peace Darth-Marximus
  4. Red Steel Thread

Alrighty folks..here's the deal...got my Amazon orders of Red Steel and Zelda today...played both a little. This was my mindframe for Red Steel (prior to playing) Great Concept - love all things Yakuza flavoured, Samurai Swords and of course Guns! Nice BoxArt A Strong desire to buy and play game (regardless of reviews good/bad etc) Here's my first impresions of Red Steel. (after a short gaming session) Main Menu "pick and drag system" - garish and quite non-userfriendly Presentation and overal visual game style - fairy nice (def above passable) Control - a bit loose and "over the shop" - however I did have sensi set to HIGH (so I'm wiling to forgive that) HOWEVER What I won't forgive is unruly object collision/detection and dodgy animations. (I'll explain) (SPOILER) You begin the game, get your gun - meet your GF's dad's servant dude - follow him round a corner and then he gets gubbed. (so far so 80's) Then you enter a room where you meet your first real band of enemies. After dispatching them you must open a door and continue on ... BUT WAIT..... Something on the other side of the opened door is shooting and talking trash at me..... What is it? Theres no-one there? And then I look up and see a Yakuza enemy floating in mid air!! MID AIR! top half of his torso is inside the ceiling above me - his legs are dangling below. (END SPOILER) I'll try this game again tomorrow - I so want to love this game and its great that some people clicked right away, I wish I was one of them. I feel slightly sick at thinking of trading in the game at a gamestation or game shop almost as soon as I took it out of the Wii I wondered how CoD3 would control (its has some good/bad press) for similar reasons graphics/control etc - I bought it tonight and loved it immediately and felt that its controls were very intuitive.. More thoughts after I play around with RS again soon
  5. Wii Porn (Post your Wii setup: 56k warning!)

I do indeed have some tastey goodies...but I will admit their is a slight starwars slant..shame I didn't get my little R2 Interactive droid in on the gig in that last pic....More pics standing by
  6. Routers - what you got and did it work?

I use the D-Link GT604 (running with australian firmware - DS had wifi probs with the UK ver) It works great with Wii (altho you have to set the broadcast channel no. to 10 rather than the default 6).
  7. Wii Porn (Post your Wii setup: 56k warning!)

It is indeed! Its the PPK - Love it
  8. Wii Porn (Post your Wii setup: 56k warning!)

Zero to Hero! So in contuinuation of my story from the "PreOrder Woes thread" Follishly not pre-ordering I took my chances scouring shops like a game loving curb crawler. Yes readers it was a long, bitter trek from 24hr ASDA to 24hr Tesco's on launch day eve. Alas like many - I was not to triumph. Returning from my quest I was beaten...but not broken! Searching my usual treasure trove of forums I came across the news that Amazon were having a last minute re-stocking of the Wii. Thats right from 3pm - 4pm on launch day there was gonna be a window of chance for me.... me and the rest of the United Kingdom that is! Thank Bill Gates for the F5 key! Yes, thank god for Bill Gates (his F5 key) and the 1-Click Ordering process of Amazon. I bagged a Wii and for cheaper than the typical retail price (thanks to some Amazon gift voucherage - yeah stick that ASDA & Tesco!) I ordered it on Fri 8th Dec for £176.98 Amazon gave my Wii an est delivery 12-13th Dec. It came today at approx 11:45am I've now coerced my D-Link GT604 router config to allowing Wii WiFi access (set to channel 10 rather than default of 6 btw). I have patched to Version 2.0 firmware..it runs no probs.... no slow overly slow patching no weird disc loading or rejection problems no error messages Again I reiterate the message - "For everyone else still in Wii limbo - I feel your pain.....I suggest absorbing some of it by watching Wii vids on YouTube...it worked for me.." now for some proof of concept: And that folks is how I went from Zero to Hero. Peace Marximus
  9. European Wii Preorders

Finally managed to secure a Wii (and we all know that feeling - Ahem... After a long and bitter trek from 24hr ASDA to 24hr Tesco's I finally bagged me some Wii action via the spur of the moment 3pm - 4pm Amazon restock sale today. All I can say is thanks god for 1-Click purchasing and the F5 key. You know I aint ever used that before - damn my weakness for Microsofts Intelimouse - damn it all to hell. Still can't believe I have finally seured one and for cheaper than retail thanks to some Amazon gift voucherage - yeah stick that ASDA! Wii est delivery 12-13th Dec for £176.98 Zelda & Red Steel est del = 14-15th Dec For everyone else still in Wii limbo - I feel your pain.....I suggest absorbing some of it by watching Wii vids on YouTube...it worked for me.. Peace Marximus
  10. The third Revolution secret!

Hey Dudes & Dudettes! I'm was scouring the boards (as you do) and again felt compelled to read over everyone's views on what the mythical "3rd Secret" was. I would have to bow to the majority here and say that I do seem to recall discussion that there is indeed a 3rd secret yet to be revealed - alas I have yet to rediscover the exact source. However I did find a blog on GameSpot during my usual traul: Shigsy stating that the Rev controller has one more feature - yet to be revealed. Any who I also discovered this little webpage: Unfortunately i still cannot post weblinks as yet but it was seemingly devoted to finding the smoking gun at Ninty HQ. Its a nice read - its gets me excited, but then so do brunettes in leather! Personally I really dig all this speculation and I'm not one bit frustrated by peoples crackpot ideas ... its great to finally be excited enough for us all to talk about a console again - even if most of it is pure speculation. Again this guys arguement tends to loose weight when he talks about the Rev base stand as a battery device (now a defunct rumor I believe). However I hope some of his conclusions are true, certainly stereoscopic imaging and Hollywood transitioning into multiplatform experiences (such as James Camerons Project 880) give more weight to the theory ...but who knows eh? And yes he goes on about the Blue Light technonology and how patents have been modified to allow laserlight imaging....personally I reckons thats more to do with the new LED projection keyboards we can all use with our PDA devices as opposed to a Rev secret - although I would love it to be true. Ninty if you are transitioning into movies - please DON'T make SuperMario Bros the Movie 2 Rev edition - even if Bob Hoskins is available. I want interactive Darth Vader lightsaber dueling and if thats as close to Ninty closing in on Hollywood then thats fine with me. Darth signing out!
  11. For the Revolution I wish for . . .

A Love note to the creative team behind the eventual Rogue Squadron 4 Revolution... The Scene: Bespin Carbon Freezing Chamber. Steam rising all around, mchinery whirring and lights flickering as electricity pulses through their cores. "The Force is with you young Skywalker......" echoes an eerie mechanical voice "but you are not a Jedi yet..." The sound of Mechanized Breathing envelopes all around you. Rev batton in Hand you navigate up the stairwell with the directional nunchuck and are confronted with the fearfull image of Darth Vader Dark Lord of the Sith. With a flick of the underside "Trigger" button you ignite your saberblade - poised ready for battle. As the battle progresses you defty lunge, parry and deflect strikes through your motion activated Rev batton. Now this is how on foot sections of Rogue Squadron games should be... To all Sony fanboys "I feel the hate swealing in you now - give in to your anger - buy a Revoluition!" Seriously ... don't hate me - I'm a multi-system gamer and I hope a PS3 won't cost too much caus I can't wait to play MGS4 either. Darth-Marximus
  12. For the Revolution I wish for . . .

Having just completed Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes on the Cube (of which I'm thrilled about by the awy) - I had a thought about the entire Codec system overhual for the Revolution. Imagine a future installment of the franchise on the Rev (or one like it) where the player is communicated to by NPC's within the gaming envorinment ala "The Colonel". But instead of the gaming screen suddenly changing to an "in-game" Codec interface - all info actually gets wirelessly send to the DS upon which it would ring similar to a mobile phone. Thus ensuing a waste of game screen realistate on our main TV screen and allowing the user to interact in a more indepth manner with the info coming through. This idea of device connectivity could also be used to present additional channel info/communcation from other human players over the WiFi network. it just struck me that Microsoft and Sony seem hellbent on making their next gen systems the heart of the living room by ensuring their peripheral devices are interconnected - whereas Nintendo's previous attempts at this have met with limited success ie GC - GBA (additional maps and hints). I even thought of a crime FPS style game (not unlike the new Condemed on X-Box 360) whereby you navigate/shoot/jump etc via the unique controller set-up on the Rev - but when it comes to inputting phone numbers, cracking codes and communicating with NPC's and other intimate stuff like that then you could use your DS as an extention of the gameplay environment. Imagine tracking a killer through a game that contacts you at ramdom via your DS! - Freaky Man - Just Freaky! Anyway thats my two cents - or two P - as I'm a UK resident! Darth-Marximus
