  1. I just preorded my Wii today from GAME. Here's what i got:

I asked where I would be on the list and he told me 27th so he thinks i'd get one because he reckons most stores will have around 50 units.

However, on my receipt it has a number of 0008, so I don't know what relevance this has to what some of you have been saying. I doubt it means I'm 8th on the list.

Then again I read that Reward Customers get primary allocation. Could this have been the reason I got a higher number?

There are 2 GAME stores in Cambridge so I'm hopeful there will be enough stock. It says on the back of the Wii receipt that they have to hold it and not sell it to someone else within 48 hours.

  2. There's a chance something like this will happen and I think I did hear some mention of it early when the Virtual Console was first annonced. It's a good way for Nintendo to reward it's fans and will actually work out cheaper I think, for them to do this than tp put items up on the website. VC games will be more or less an infinite source of income and it won't cost them anything.

  3. what's the point people saying gameplay is the most important thing? we all know and agree to that. but this does not mean that graphics should have been sacrificed.

the issue is what we've seen with the graphics just aint good enough. i will not buy some games because of their graphics. the new screenshots of Far Cry Vengence is one such example. I really hope they fix that as i was really looking forward to it, but if it don't look better than xbox version i won't bother.

for the price the Wii should be more powerful.

  4. I don't think anyone doubts the Wii is actually worth the money Nintendo asks for it. The problem is that Nintendo promised 'under $250' and the fanbase makes $200 from that by definition. Nintendo has failed to price the Wii aggressively (they're even proudly claiming they're making profit on the hardware) and the lack of guts is highly annoying. We're all fan enough here to fork over the 180 pounds or 250 euros though.

Also, the full potential of the console is still vague, especially when third parties release terrible screenshots all the time.

I agree with you mate. Although I will still buy a Wii because of Zelda, I'm really underwhelmed by anything else at launch. £180 is not cheap and not mass market affordable which was what Nintendo have been beating on about. It's not aggressive enough.

Now with the announcement that PS3 core system price has been slashed by 20% in Japan because of the complaints, that's not a whole lot more expensive than the Wii now. But I can't see Nintendo changing the price in that region as it's already the equivalent of about £100 which is a good price.

I'm still concerned about how great these controls actually going to be. Obviously some games will benefit but others will just not. And actually i think there are more genres where it's not really necessary

  5. Alright, here's my take on the whole thing. Listen closely, because this is the last time I will comment on Wii's graphics. Really.

It seems like alot of you forget something. Nintendo is a video game company. They're not here to make you happy, they're here to take your money. It's just simple economics. They want to make money, so they'll sell you a product. Nintendo makes good games so people will buy them. Not so they can please a bunch of rabid fanboys. Not to appease the critics. To make money. It's simple. They're a company, got it?

Do you get it? They don't give two shits about hardcore gamers. They're trying to attract a new audience, to make money. They think they can make money this way. Got it?

Alright, I'm done. That's all you'll ever hear from me.

This is where you are completely wrong. That is a very limited view on what they are doing. Yes they are a company that wants to make a profit, but far and away more than that they are a company that want to bring the fun factor back into videogames. They are the ones doing all the innovating, and they do want to keep their loyal fans happy. They believe in games should be fun and they want to reach out to as many people as possible not just to make money but for the future of the industry as a whole.

If Nintendo were to hear your views about them and what they are doing they shoot you down without a second.

They have not changed strategies (as you say) to avoid the competition. What you think they can't stand toe to toe with them? Nintendo has been around for the longest time and I believe all their major consoles have been successful and made a profit for them. The've gone in another direction to innovate and expand the industry.

Your economics don't add up. Of course they want us to be happy else we will take are hard earned cash elsewhere. We the customers keep them going, part of the reason they are still here is because of their loyal fanbase. Aren't Nintendo the only ones with a loyalty scheme?

If you don't want to comment further on the subject, don't. No one is asking you to so don't feel obliged.

  6. i haven't even seen the ps3 videos, but i know as we all do that they will look amazing.

i don't dislike the Wii and everying it and Nintendo are trying to achieve, but i do believe they could have pushed the graphical abilties of the Wii further so the gap is not so wide.

we talk about these being early days and later games will improve, yet we already see how great the ps3 games look, imagine in 5 or 6 years time. honestly the Wii will seriously be out of date where as the ps3 will be only half way going from strength to strength.

Could this be an all too familiar story - in 2 years the ps3 will be considered affordable, the Wii will be under £100 and cast into the corner of the shop with the DS and considered as a toy for kids.

I think Nintendo will need to think of a Wii-2 upgrade the Wii's powers by 3 or 4 years max. Shorter life span than the Cube. Things are different on the DS, where graphics are not as important for many reasons.

  7. Yes this again, and sure it should be a very hot topic. fact is - with the power of the Wii, I think Nintendo will, I'm afraid push a lot of their core fan base away on to one of the other two consoles. Sure they will still buy a Wii just to satify their zelda, mario, metroid needs etc.

But once they make that jump, then they may not be such big Nintendo fans anymore because they will experience a lot of other great games. I am one such gamer, dedicated to Nintendo since owning the N64 but I will be very tempted by the xbox360 and ps3 simply because great 3rd parties games will be better on them.

This whole new control is great, but not necessarily that great on certain games that we will choose it over the better looking version. Afterall there wasn't all that wrong with the traditional control method most of us have been used to for years.

I'm sure it won't be that big of a problem for Nintendo as they will attract a wider, broader audience and achieve their sales. But Wii will be more for casual gamers than hardcore gamers.

I kinda expected graphics to be twice that of Zelda, Resi 4 etc. but nothing we've seen have indicated anything better than the Cube and Xbox

  8. no, you can't say the majority of people are very impressed with the graphics of Super Mario Galaxy.

So far I am not sold. There's really not that much to be impressed about, obviously the gameplay and controls will be the deciding factor in this game but there's no denying that it doesn't look all that.

  9. i don't think any Wii games have graphics worth mentioning. Zelda is the best looking game on the Wii and that is Cube graphics.

everything else can look better but probably won't because graphics are not going to be what developers focus on at all. a lot of them seem to be in the belief that because it's the Wii it don't need to look good. I don't think Red Steel looks any better than Cube or xbox games, sure it has a few extra lighting effects.

tbh, i think it's going to be the developers who traditionally put a lot into graphics that we see the improvement. Capcom and Sqaure Enix will do it right.

  10. well, don't expect graphics to be much better than the xbox - if even. the more i hear about the wii's graphical abilities the less impressed i get. you'd think twice the power of the Cube could produce much better graphics.

lets hope that these are early days and we'll see much better looking games in a few months.

i'm still very interested in far cry vengeance and expect the graphics to be polished up a bit when it finally comes out. from the interview they are still exploring a lot of possiblities and i won't be suprised if the game was pushed back to March in Europe.

looks like we're all still very concerned about the graphics though, could this be Wii's downfall in 2 or 3 years time when the graphics will look very dated.

  11. 3 games on launch are you crazy? Zelda couldn't have been done an year ago, GC or no GC, these games take time. This is the best launch ever and still people moan and whine like little girls.

I'm talking about launch day Nintendo games. Take out Zelda and what do we have from Nintendo? What I'm saying is Zelda was a Cube game and at one point was scheduled for release a year ago. Obviously they have added to the game loads since then. You think we haven't waited long enough for it?

I'm not talking launch window games which could take up to 3 months, and I'm not talking third parties either.

And btw games have not been delayed to spread out the releases, but because they are not ready to launch.

And also you sound like a child.

  12. of course the graphics are important, that is a game's main selling point after the gameplay, and at the end of the day graphics sell games.

for a system that was touted as twice the power of the Gamecube, you'd expect better visuals than the Gamecube. I've not seen anything here that can't be done on the Cube.

  13. can i just say: the bundle isnt a wii plus 1 free game. a wii is £150 plus wiisports £30

Don't be rudiculous, the price we pay is £179 for the Wii with Wii Sports included. You cannot buy the Wii for £150 on it's own so you cannot make that comment. If Nintendo told us that, they'd probably get more flack by forcing people to pay for a game that they may not want.

Many had £150 in mind only because Nintendo kept banging on about the Wii being cheap and affordable appealing to the mass market and casual gamers. £180 is not that price with or without Wii Sports. Also, with Nintendo saying the Wii would not cost more than $250 in the USA, which by simple conversion is a little over £130. Matt at IGN got well worked up over that price when he heard it initially. And this was when we thought it would also play dvds.

  14. look, the point of this thread is to debate about the new launch price details etc, why some people are posting for all of us to shut up and stop whining. it's the whole point of this forum to share our thoughts. listen to what others have to say, no need to start the childish remarks about whinging and crying and all that.

if you don't like it, don't read it. People have every right to feel how they do so let them say what they want to. I'm a massive Nintendo fan myself, but can't say I wasn't disappointed with the recent launch information including the price, but some of you seem to get so bloody defensive for nothing.

  15. i'm little concerned i will not like the new controls after seeing a latest video of someone playing on it.

turning with the remote seems to be the biggest problem and I heard the people playing it weren't totally convinced with it as they felt like they were fighting with it somewhat.

hope they fix it with the delay. just wish that some games could include standard controls in them as well.

  16. Yes it has been out for a year, therefore it might be a good time to take a look at the system especially after the price drop.

tbh I'm quite interested in getting a 360 so I would welcome a price drop with open arms. competition means better value for the customer.

the difference between Nintendo and Microsoft is Microsoft is willing to sell stuff at a loss to get it into people's homes and make money in other ways such as games, xbox live service etc. this is one of the reasons why xbox shifted more units than the Cube, but I wouldn't bet the Cube was more profitable.

I hope they do drop the price of the 360.
