I played it at Bluewater today. The whole set-up is a massive dissapointment. Only Wii Sports and Wii Play there each on their own TV with a sofa.

I only got to play Wii Play, and played the paddle hockey, duckhunt, and some horse racing game with jumps.

The hockey game wasn't that good really. After many impressions saying it was one of the better games in the compilation, it just plain sucked. Controling it was very difficult, and after a while I started to really aim it at the sensor bar and it worked alittle better. 3/10 for that.

Duckhunt inspired game was excellent. Played 6 rounds of it, with each consectutive round having more targets and at a faster pace. Mii's started appearing in the later round and were getting dragged off by UFO's. Aiming took a round or two to get used to, and once I understood how to aim properly it just got more and more fun. Was playing against a mate (as with the other two games) and it got really competitive towards the end with him winning most of the previous rounds and in the final me being 20 points behind, but I delivered in that round and he had no chance.......the win was mine. 7/10

The best game out of the three I played was the horse galloping thing. Controller is held sideways and you tilt forward for your horse to gather speed, while leaning the remote left or right directed your horse on the track. The aim of this game was to direct your horse into targets on the track which scored you points. The track also featured obstacles that your horse needed to jump, and this was done by jolting the remote upwards and the horse on-screen would follow precisely with it. Control wise, this was the best out of the three, and delivered the most fun I felt. Only gripe with this game is that the course seemed alittle short, and when it ended you just wanted to play again. 9/10 easy for this one.

For the money Wii Play can't be turned down I feel. These games although there isn't alot too them, are worth the extra £5-£7 on-top of a Wiimote for sure, and if you plan on using your Wii as a family evenings fun on Christmas day then there is alot of fun to be had for people who usually wouldn't play videogames. These games work very well multiplayer wise. I can't see them being of much interest though if you haven't got people to play multi with though. When I first walked upto the Wii living room (as it kind of looks like) there was a middle-aged woman and an old lady playing, and they were having a blast. There was also large crowds gathered round watching people play, and you could tell everyone wanted a go.

The Wiimote is damn sexy aswell. Feels just right in your hand, and after playing even for this short while on three games I can say for sure that controllers like this are definitely the future of gaming, and this coming gen the most fun will be had with the Wii fullstop. Normal controllers are just not going to deliver after playing the Wii.

Waggle and GameCube on steroids is doing the job brilliantly. Going to go back early tomorrow morning and get my hands on Wii Sports hopefully.

I was there this morning played Tennis, Bowling, Golf and on Wii Play played Table Tennis and That laser hockey thing

Tennis and Bowling were great fun was having trouble with Golf for some reason it wasn't swinging how I was swinging but I put that down to configuration. All in all i'm now so glad i've got mine pre-ordered and i'm more excited than ever

I'm being a risky mofo, and not bothering with a pre-order. Virgin Megastore will have plenty left over on launch day, as Bluewater store took 25 pre-orders then refused to take anymore. I'm expecting them to get about 80-100 hardware units considering this store is the 2nd biggest in the chain and from seeing previous console launches. They always have extra on launch day.

Also getting my console for £162. :heh:

i wouldn't bet on that many at launch, i work at one of the most profitable HMV's in the whole company, (top 3) and i dont expect us to fill our 50 preorders.

Well they did 25 pre-orders in a week. Which is alot considering it's no Game/Gamestation store.

Looking at the launch date there will be more than the usual on that launch day I feel. I'll get the numbers off of someone who works there a week before or so, and update somewhere with them, but the amount of units is going to be around what I stated above for that store.

I played the Wii today in bluewater, both Wii play and WiiSports. On Play, I played the horse racing one(twice) which was great, the hockey one which I found a bit tricky to control because the wiimote seems very sensitive, and some weird thing where you have to match 2 miis out of a crowd. I didn't play duckhunt, but Colin has pretty much summed up what I thought of hockey and the horse game. The spot the mii thing was basic, so I won't really comment on it, it's basically just a competative pairs game(think of that minigame in sm64ds where you have to find the character in the crowd, think 2 of the same character in a crowd of many more other characters, kinda). It was still fun, although we got stumped in the 3rd game because we couldn't find the matches on some escalators.

Anyway, I played WiiSports Tennis too before I played WiiPlay, which I thought was actually pretty good(I think I won 2/3 games, then me and the random guy I was playing with got kicked off). I liked tennis, and it even got me working up a sweat(because I was wearing about 12 layers of clothes and a scarf), but it was pretty fun, I love the way the characters jump about and stuff, at one point the other guy even ended up jumping one of his people into the crowd for the ball!

The wiimote itself is much smaller than I reckoned, as is the console, and the sensor bar, and the wiimote has little bits of rumble too, although it felt quite mild. Whilst I didn't hear it myself, the guy I was playing with pointed out to me after that there was sound in the speaker on the serve, which is a nice touch. The reason I think the horse game and tennis felt so good however, is because they were easier to control as they didn't rely on the IR of the wiimote, whereas hockey seemed to, and so when I tried to rotate my paddle I'd end up tilting my wiimote up or down causing my paddle to fly all over the place as I try to sort it out, often knocking the ball into my own goal. I wouldn't say I played enough to make a firm judgement that 'the wii pointer craps everything up' though. I am pretty impressed with things though, and I'm gonna go back tomorrow with Marcamillian to play some more.

As for graphics, they seemed quite good to me, although I'm pretty sure those were HDTVs and I don't know how they were hooked up, but I'd assume it was using the best possible. I say the graphics seemed good, they didn't look particularly challenging to render, the miis themselves look really cute in the game too, when they run around and move and stuff.

I watched at Bluewater today. Some old guy played golf (with great difficulty, it seemed). It kinda worried me a bit, but it won't put me off.

And the girl worker there was really pretty

Is this horse racing one of the hidden games in wiiplay? i hadn't heard about it till i read this thread

Hidden? I don't think so. It's cool though, quite basic but fun for a while. I dunno how long it'd last at being fun, given that I only played for about 5 minutes. Gotta agree with hiyaz, the girl there was pretty hot.

the only reason i say this is i've seen movies of the wii play menu and it has ? logos in place of some games and all the stuff ive read has only had this list of games: Duck Hunt rehash, billiards, ping pong, Pose Mii, laser hockey, fishing, find mii.

also on ign it says:

There were also a couple of hidden challenges that weren't available in our demonstration, so there's a few secrets tucked away in Wii Play that'll have to be uncovered when it ships for the system

Well I played it at the Buchanan Galleries today, only got to play Wiisports Tennis...have to say I expected the event to be a bit more than one Wii planted right in the middle of the centre with an hour wait to play 5 minutes of whatever game was on at the time...

Anyway, Tennis was a lot more fun than I thought it'd be. Each swing felt pretty satisfying, mainly due to the fact the vibration made it feel like you really were connecting with the ball and playing the game. Really wish I'd got to play Zelda though...damnit.

I just got back from Bluewater and I Think I may have seen you Rummy, was you wearing a hat by any chance?

Anyway i loved it. Played it so much today and then went to see the bond film.

I thought the horse racing game was actually cows??

Anyway my thoughts are that the Wii is awesome. Everyone seemed to have a smile on their faces. Nintendo have put the fun back into games.

On Wii sports i played boxing, tennis, golf, bowling, baseball all were awesome. I was really bad at some of them but kicked arse at boxing and baseball :)

On the Wii play i played the air hockey game, found the controls well sensitive on that. Also played the cow (horse) racing game, duckhunt and table tennis :)

I took a few pics and some videos on my phone that ill try and upload later....Got a good one of 3 old chaps watching their pal play golf. All 4 seemed to love the Wii. I also managed to get a video of the hot brunette ;)

The only thing i think the stand could have done with was to have another screen running demos of all the other games so people can see what else the Wii has to offer.

Why yes, yes I was! I didn't try to play on it too much because I didn't want to look greedy, but I'm going back with my mate tomorrow like I said and gonna try and get a go at all the different things. I just hope there aren't lots more people there this time.

thats interesting. The lights on your Wii's were off - presumably meaning they were 'real' wii's, as they light is only on at the start.

The wii's in birmingham had the blue light on all the time, so i assume they are the fake ones that they have had at a few shows. I wonder why they would have real at one, and fake at another.

i'll be back at the bullring tomorrow, hopefully they'll have different games, and maybe even ask someone.
