Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Recommended Posts

Same here. I liked the demo, i'll probably enjoy the game but the competition this Christmas is too strong for me to have a pre-order on this at the moment. I'd place it 5th on my list right now, after Gears, Left 4 Dead, Mirror's Edge and Naruto but it could slip further. CoD5, Prince Of Persia and Rock Band 2 could easily overtake it.

Yer, well it has been cancelled now. I already have Gears 2 and C&C Red Alert 3 on pre-order which both should take up loads of my time anyway, let alone the load of other ones that i have to decide when to get...

Mines cancelled too. I'm already playing Fable 2, and De Blob right now, and I've got LBP coming next week. My time could easily be taken up by other games too like Mass Effect, and GTA4 which I still need to go back to. I've gone from pretty excited for this to no interest.

Well that was utter shit.

Graphically it was fantasmic. Gameplay wise...maaaaaaaaan I was lost for words whilst playing it. Definitely getting Mirror's Edge over this now.

Wow, alot of people are cancelling their orders on here! Are Caris, Cube and myself the only ones on here who enjoyed the demo and are keeping their orders?

You guys are making me cry. I can't download the demo and you're all cancelling your pre-orders... I can't get hold of the demo so I can't judge for myself. I think I'm going to cancel as I have Fallout 3 anyway which I now like more than my family... I wouldn't get the chance to play it much, especially with assignments being in.

I'm still getting it : peace: I only played a couple of the challenges in the demo, the race and Jingo one... race one was fine but I just didn't "get" the Jinjo launching thing... I stopped playing it after that as I have this thing with demo's, if I have a lot to play anyway then I don't like to spend much time playing the demo's as I know I'll be doing that part in the game again anyway and could actually be getting something for it or at least make progress. :/

So yeah I'll still be picking it up, looking forward to playing it with an open mind and enjoying as much as I can of it.

I'm not getting it for a couple of reasons:

Although the vehicle creation is a tonne of fun, the actual handling and gameplay surrounding it? Not so much...

Letty is getting it, I'll borrow it.

I'm still getting it, just not on launch day. Money restrictions rather than not liking the demo. I can get either Mirror's Edge OR Banjo and it was the Mirror's demo that impressed me more.

The thing is, the demo only let you do so much. There will be so much more to the main game, more depth to the challenges, more need to think about your vehicles and build for specific purposes and such.

Don't cancel your orders you idiots. You got to play about 30 mins of an adventure game. Would you cancel a Mario order after such a short test? No, didn't think so.

I'll put it this way. I wanted three games:

Tomb Raider Underworld, Banjo-Kazooie and Mirror's Edge.

The first and last have incredibly strong and enjoyable demos. The middle, didn't prove itself in the time it gave me. It was a hell of alot of fun in some aspects but the core gameplay just didn't click propperly with me. I will play it at some point in December, but at the moment? I could only have two and i chose which had the best demos.

Fair enough. I've completed Tomb Raider and can vouch for that being an awesome game. My colleague has completed Mirror's Edge and enjoyed that so its safe to say that is good too.

Personally Mirror's Edge looked very samey throughout which put me off. It also bugs me to have such a great lead character that you dont even see, not even in cut-scenes because they're all done in cartoon style.

I dunno, Banjo just has that added charm that ME and many other games dont have.

Well I gave the demo a go a couple of times and spent a couple of hours on it and I just don't like the game. Even less than I did. The only part I liked was the music and fan service, the rest was crap for me. I doubt i'll get this for a long time, just far to heavy on the vehicle aspect of the game.

I really think that Jiggy getting will just be similiar to the demo, through mini games. I don't see this as an adventure game just now, more like one big test track to put your creations on. If I played a Mario demo, i'd like it and keep my pre-order since I enjoyed it, but with this, even though I don't have a pre-order, it put me off even more.

Even if the demo only lets you do so much, it's enough to make a decision on it. Hazzah, more vehicle making and harder challenges later on. I don't want a game that's basically making vehicles for each challenge.

Unfortunately I think you'd be an idiot to keep your oder with this game rather than to cancel (unless you really loved the building element of the game). The demo easily showed the core game mechanics. I found the whole thing rather insulting the BK series, actually.

Mumbo has been transformed from a powerful shaman to, well, frankly an idiot wearing dungarees who lectures you on how to upgrade your vehicle. Much of the game will involve collecting things and placing them on your vehicle using some loopy gravity gun-style wand (that throws the item all around giving you next to no control). Certain elements seemed deliberately tapped on for the sake of making the game feel like a BK game - notes in the main town for the sake of just being there, to be honest, and the first level had a remix of 4 or so BK songs back to back, as well as a load of BK characters ripped out of their normal habitat and just stuck there for the hell of it.

Really, a demo is supposed to let you know whether you want to buy a game or not. If you hated the demo, I'd say you'd have to be an idiot to keep your order rather than the opposite, unfortuantely. The only thing weighing on my mind is that original BK release!

But it isn't really that far from Banjo-Tooie.

It is very far from BT. BT at least followed the same style as BK, just it was bigger and had annoying backtracking.

And a massive chunk of it was non-platforming challenges.

I'm not cancelling, just because I know I will get it eventually (just for the "Banjo-ness", the humour, the nostalgia) and I want the BK code. May aswell get it right away to save money.

I very much doubt I will love the game like I did the previous two.

To be fair, it was usually only 1-2 jiggys on the odd level that used the FPS system, whereas this game is vehicle dependent for nearly the whole thing. Even Banjo Kazooie had non-platforming elements (sandcastle floor, racing to get out of a maze quickly, matching the tiles game).

I would say BT was 90% platforming, 10% FPS + other mini games.

I think I'll still give this a purchase even though I didn't enjoy the demo, it's just I'm not going to pay £40 for it as I really didn't enjoy it as much as I'd have hope. I'll be picking it up after xmas but it'll most likely just sit on my shelf as I play through other stuff. I can understand all of the negativity and it is a demo so it could well improve, something I'm hoping on for when I eventually pick up the game.

I tried the demo again, to give it another go. Trying to play it as a game and not to compare it with the originals.

It just doesn't do anything for me.

The music is good. The graphics are good. The animation of Banjo is good.

The vehicles are gonna be a major part of the game and it just feels like it's gonna be a let down. Going off Banjo Land, what else can they do apart from racing, escorting a jinjo, and... Not really much you can do with vehicles until it gets repetitive.

They already announced it was 80% vehicles, and you need vehicles to get through the game pretty much.

We all know that it's heavily based on vehicles anyway, that much you can easily tell from the demo alone.

Just vehicle and mini-games then more vehicle making.

I will say some of the vehicles that they've shown are pretty cool. The big Mech/gundam thing that was created in the Vehicle workshop looked so cool.
