ROBOTNIK!!!!!

Seconded!! That's one of the things I really hate about the new Sonic games... they should have really stuck with Robotnik. "Eggman" sounds dumb...

And I agree, this game does look a tad weird, but I don't think it looks terrible. It can't be as bad as Heroes tbh.

Well, he's still Robotnik, that's still his name. Eggman is just a nickname Sonic gave him. Oh and he's been "Eggman" in japan for like.. eternity. It's sort of a Rockman/Megaman thing, although he's technically Robotnik in japan too, if you were to look up his actual name.

Actually I dont think hes Robotnik anywhere, as you said he always was eggman in Japan and they decided to call him robotnik over here, but now they just call him eggman. idiots.

Sascha from AMN made a thread where he wrote that Dave Halverson at PLAY Magazine gave Sonic the Hedgehog a 9.5:

------------------------------

The best Sonic ever, hands down, 2D or otherwise.

So says Dave Halverson at PLAY Magazine (formerly of Diehard Gamefan and Gamers Republic), who awarded the game a 9.5 score. Good sign. The man, like myself, is a platformer nut.

---------------------------

Sascha always posts intelligent stuff, so this sounds good. (And very surprising.) But I don't know if this Dave Halverson thinks of Sonic games like me. I find it very hard to belive that any Sonic game could ever surpass Sonic 3 (Inside Sonic & Knuckles, it would really be impossible in my mind.)

I doubt that a lot. A LOT.

Hmm could it beat Sonic The Hedgehog 2 as the best Sonic game? Hmm I somewhat feel that it won't, but I don't doubt that it will be a fun game though.

^

I feel Sonic 3 beat Sonic 2 already, but I guess people have different opinions. To tell you the truth, I was afraid that the new Sonic game wouldn't even beat Sonic Heroes (I didn't play it more than 5 minutes, my first impression was very bad.) for a while. Now I'm letting myself hope for almost a Sonic Adventure (1) quality game (and I loved that game).

Me too, it wasn't great but it was a lot of fun playing as Sonic. Sonic 2 was as fun when you were playing as Sonic but the rest was crap.

Hopefully this will be good, I've changed my mind again and I'm getting it, so hopefully it'll be better than the demo.

Glad I popped in here for this little debate. i have to agree with Tailzo that Sonic 3 was/is the best Sonic game. I have finished it numerous times on various platforms and it still holds all its charm today since the day of its release.

Yes, there seems to be a strong hate for Sonic. People forget the excellent Sonic Rush, they talk about Shadow the Hedgehog as a Sonic game (but Luigi's mansion isn't a Mario game?) and just talk about Sonic as he's never had a great game. (Yes, I may sounds like that sometimes too, but there's just been too long since I played an awesome non-handheld Sonic game. Since the Dreamcast, in fact.)

That's not to say I don't dislike:

- Seeing Shadow in vehicules

- seeing Sonic carrying a weird princess

- seeing spin-oofs like Shadow the Hedgehog (That one deserves to be bashed.)

- new characters, that I fear wil be just another pointless one.

...Anyway, I just hope this game is the Sonic console game I've been waiting for since Sonic Adventure.

While it's a bit like chosing between being kicked in the groin or being punched in the groin, Shadow The Hedgehog entertained me more than Sonic Heroes did. Sonic Heroes was just this flimsy, glitchy, spazzy, twitchy MESS of what was once a good idea I reckon (the whole switching formations on the fly, sort of like Panzer Dragoon Orta, but vastly better executed in that game obviously) while Shadow was at least consistently - and thus sooner or later managably - poor.

The trick is to not go for the neutral, urban decay path in Shadow, but instead go for either the evil or good paths. You'll come across some really funky looking levels with almost classic Sonic looking casino, circus and ghost house themes, to name a few. One takes place inside a computer and is entirely made up of streams of light and weird nodes. The music is rather spiffy too if I may say.

Again, they're both largely terrible games, but Shadow not only posseses the better and more interesting looking levels, it also sort of fits a piece of the story puzzle - if one concerns himself/herself with that kind of thing - into the overall Sonic Adventure *saga*. Heroes just.. sort of.. I dunno.. twitches about I suppose.

Oh and shooting works pretty much like the E-102/SA1 or Robotnik/Tails stuff from SA2, so while guns are somewhat silly, they actually work reasonably well into the gameplay. Some vehicles do too, but there are segments where you get to hop into a jeep or something and just kinda.. drive for about 10 seconds until you need to get out to proceed.

I'm one of those Sonic fans that'll take just about any kind of abuse to play a Sonic game these days, I admit.

Oh and Sonic Riders is easily the best 3D Sonic since SA2 in my honest opinion. It's incredibly difficult though, but once you get into it it's really nice.

Sonic 3 (and Knuckles) are absolutely fantastic games but I have to agree with Dom.

^ The King ^

I really wished this game was a remake of the original MegaDrive trilogy (like Green Hill Zone in SA2). Obviously with improvements and such, but oh well, I'll still give this a try.

I still can't see this game scoring above an 8. It's a 3D Sonic game, and 3D Sonic games are always absolute shit, yet this doesn't stop me wanting it.

Stupid rose-tinted glasses of childhood.

[edit]

Maybe I'm weeks late here but it seems the game has been delayed until the 24th in the UK. Sega are claiming this is due to them being unhappy with the way downloading content works, but we all know it's because Gears of War is coming out on the 17th. Oh well, this just helps ease the wait for the Wii even better.

I must be one of the only people to enjoy SA1, didn't like no. 2 as much though, i prefered the open world more then the stages.

Anyone know if this game goes by in stages aswell, or is it open-ended gameplay?
