Another quick tip if you have the time and don't mind spending a little money: get a monopod. Should still be easy to carry, and you can get away with wider aperture and lower iso.

Well, being the drunk fuck that I was last night I simply put my camera to "auto mode" Flash photography ensued and the pictures turned out quite good. Since I'm not a professional photographer and only do this for fun I'm satisfied with the results :)

Still, thanks for your advice. I'm pretty sure that I will put those tips to good use sooner or later :peace:

Went to Cotswold Wildlife Park, which was my first proper outing since replacing my broken camera.

Took my drone out with me on my bike ride and after a minute or so of flying, 2 Apache helicopters flew quite low nearby. Managed to get a photo of one of them, although the wide angle lens makes it look much further away than it actually was.

Also got a nice photo of the sunset:

We live quite close to an MOD base, so Apaches and Chinooks are a pretty common sight here. Here's a photo I took of them from my bedroom window. Not the best photo artistically, but I do love how clearly we get to see them from our house.

Recently, I was leaving our village on my bike and one flew directly over my head at about the height of a 4 storey building. It was pretty ace, although I didn't get chance to take a photo.

Such lovely views in your area @Goafer! Love those fields and country lanes and the golden glow from the sun. :)

We've been getting a lot of military aircraft since lockdown started, more than we would normally get. With Bournemouth Airport not being used as much by passenger planes, the military have been using it to do training. We've seen some big military planes flying around in circles doing touch and goes for example. There's some really impressive planes out there, but sadly I don't have any pictures! :(

@Goafer In that bottom pic they almost just look like little insects.

In the late 90s I lived in Slough, which is close to Heathrow. Every now and then Concorde would fly overhead, which was kinda cool because it was so very very loud.

Great pictures @Goafer - I’m surprised you’re allowed to fly a drone living so close to a base.

We live on the flightpath for the main Singapore airbase and have jets fly overhead a few times a day. My attempts to photograph them are pretty bad due to only having a phone camera. I’m tempted to buy something a bit better just to get a decent shot of them.

Looking at the geofencing map on the DJI app, I'm ok to fly pretty much anywhere except directly over the base. It's only a storage depot, so doesn't have a runway or anything.

Knowing about the low flying helicopters though, I do generally avoid my actual village or keep it very low if I do fly there. These photos were taken a few villages over. Apparently the helicopters stay low for a while though!

What site do you guys tend to use to post your photos to? As I’m getting back into photography now I’d like to actually like to post some where they’d get viewed.

I used to use Flickr when I was still posting photos, but haven't used it in years so I'm not sure if that is still a good place. An other option may be setting up a personal website and posting on Instagram and linking to your own site.

Took the new camera out for a walk yesterday but still have the same problem I always do. I find it really hard to get any inspiration for photos in my local area having lived here for 25ish years. I really can’t wait until I can get out again and go further afield.

It's tricky to see the interesting aspects of an area you know so well. What kind of photos do you usually take? It may be good to take a different subject. Go for nature, macro, urbex, portraits or anything you normally wouldn't do. Maybe it can also help to change perspective. Go for a place high up or lay on the floor.

Oh yeah that’s definitely the plan but until lockdown is over all I’ve really got is landscape and nature. Was gonna go out again today but the lovely rain is back.

Finally got off my ass and faffed around with my dad's old SLR (stressing the absence of a 'D').

Exciting stuff, bringing your film to develop and having to wait all that time to see the results! Most didn't turn out wel, being over or underexposed. But the most important one turned out great. I'm also surprised all of the long exposure shots turned out good or decent, I was totally winging those.

Had a nice trip out to the Zoo. We took our dog, so couldn't go in all the places, but that was mainly the indoor areas, which we thought it best to avoid anyway.

Long shot but someone might know.

I got a Polaroid Now for my wife's birthday a couple of weeks ago. I also got some blank films (for i-Type but they are compatible as far as I could understand). They were produced in September 2020. However, when taking photos, they are really out of focus (cute baby alert XD ):

Spoiler

IMG-20210720-202331.jpg

At least they look old-school but I was expecting a tad better quality. Are we bad photographers, is Polaroid Now a terrible camera (I read reviews and they said that it was quite decent), or are the films expired?

Disclaimer: I know that polaroids aren't that good and all, I don't understand why my wife wanted one but I at least expected the quality to be better than this!

The bottom one looks about what I'd expect from Polaroid. The other two do seem like there's something wrong.

Could be expired or incompatible film. I tried for ages to get my original Polaroid camera working with some film I managed to get hold of, but I just couldn't.

I haven't looked into Polaroid for about 10 years now, but the film that was on offer back then was a bit shit, as people were just starting to manufacture it again and basically just experimenting until they could recreate the original films.

I'd try a different brand of film and see what happens. Unfortunately any film photography is basically trial and error, so it does usually involve some wasted money.

Without and with flash, respectively. It's a well-lit room, though.

I don't understand the need for polaroid, and I don't get why my wife wanted it. But if this is the quality to be expected, I think we should go for a refund and upgrade to the OneStep+-model, which is supposedly better than this.

I'm no Polaroid expert, and scans of the pictures would be better to be able to judge them, but the top looks typically expired. The others don't, but expiration may also affect the exposure timing I think. The camera isn't new? I don't think it's the problem, but I'd get film fresh from a camera shop, or straight from the source. Make a test picture to see if the quality matches your expectations before you take baby shots, take a picture of some colourful object in front of a (really) well lit white wall.

It's a new camera but I also asked the store I got it from so we'll see how they respond tomorrow.

(alright, doing a little experiment)

I've bought a bean bag.

Any recommended fillings? I'm taking into account it may get wet.
