Xbox 360 Console Discussion

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else have trouble with Live yesterday? Mine kept disconnecting. First it was during a game of Red Dead, then it was while watching Netflix.

Wouldn't let me sign back in either. I had to restart the console.

I've been getting this a lot lately. I even switched from a wireless to a Homeplug connection to see if it would sort it, but no joy.

I assumed it was something on my end, but perhaps not.

I've always had issues with live, but mine is to do with the distance between my router and my room. We are planning on moving the router to get a better signal, currently it is sitting on the otherside of where the old outside wall was before the extension was fitted. We are moving it into the hallway, so should solve that problem for myself.

So, Arkham Asylum and Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition are treated as separate games on Xbox Live. (ie, I can earn the same achievements twice)

Does this happen with all GOTY editions?

Not all but some of them. Same goes for some US and UK games.

I'm very late to the party but I recently started playing Burnout Paradise. Not done much online but unlocked about 50 cars and have about 90 events left to do.

Is Big Surf worth picking up? Is it likely to extend my enjoyment of the game from this point?

*cough* @Cube @Cookyman :D

It's great for driving around and messing around, but for actual events and stuff it's quite weak.

Although I did get a Diamond car for it (It's for completing all 500 online events).

Well Freeview is, I belive, specific to what comes from your standard aerial, so no. But it does have iPlayer, 4OD, Demand 5 as well as Sky Player, Netflix and Lovefilm.

All of which you need to have Xbox live for. So you pay a fee to watch Sky, Netflix and Lovefilm which you also have to pay for ¬_¬

The PS3's PlayTV might be of interest, Ashley.

I suspect you could get a Freeview tuner for PC and then watch it on your Xbox via Media Centre. That's probably a bit too deep into "can't be arsed" territory, though.

@Ashley as Aimless suggested PlayTV is most likely to provide what you're after, I've had it for many years and it's very good for what it is. :)

That's one way of looking at it. But I see it more that those are bonuses for an online gaming service. Nobody buys XBL Gold just for Netflix. You have a Sky account which you can watch on your sky box, Lovefilm/Netflix which you can watch on your PC, an Xbox Live Gold account just gives you another way to watch them.

Xbox Live Gold can be found for as little as £1/month. I pay more than that for a VPN just to extend my Netflix to US shows. Heck, I pay more than that in electricity to watch it on any device. My TV license is also more expensive.

Conversely, I've been without XBL for nearly three months now? I've never really played much online because I tend to get games after the hype's calmed down, and my achievement whoring mechanism tends to filter out online achievements. I'm probably not getting the most out of my games this way, but then that's kinda why I pay bottom dollar for teh games in the first place - so I don't have to feel guilted into playing them more than I want to.

Except the MGS HD collection...

Borrowed Duke Nukem Forever, and... yeah. It's duke, alright, but it's just horribly dated in the wrong ways. I can live with the turn-of-the-century FPS mentality of "MUST HAVE CAR BITS AND ON RAILS BITS AND BITS OF EVERYTHING BITS", with the linear levels and with the slaloming difficulty curve that spikes at odd moments. It's the loading which gets me the most! However, I'm probably barely into the game - just come out of the Lady Killer casino, fought a massive dude in a 'pit' and am shortly after a scripted moment.

Also have Fallout 3 to hand, so after DNF and MGS3 it's back to the wastelands. Kinda annoying that i won't have the DLC here!

It is indeed the kind of thing I'm after but my stepfather wants it as he wants to get an Xbox to play online with his son.

Cheers guys

iPlayer is free I believe. Purely because of the same reason you're talking about, they want to push for other programs not to have to pay a fee to Microsoft to use their program - maybe in the future?

That's a pretty good interview, though, correct me as I'm probably very, very wrong here, but surely he would have signed a bucket load of papers with Rare to ensure he didn't talk about this even after he left?

For example, I know I still can't speak about stuff I saw at Jagex?

I started playing Lollipop Chainsaw yesterday and it's been quite enjoyable so far. It reminds me of Dead Rising mixed with MadWorld. Some of the achievements are hilarious as well, I mean you get one for trying to look up her skirt. :D

Gameplay wise it's all about combos and the finishing zombies off with your chainsaw. I imagine you get higher scores for bigger combos but at the moment i've just been running around hacking things up without caring about such things.

If you're not a fan of QTE's then this game isn't for you. There are quite a lot in the game, usually when you are controlling Nick ( headless boyfriend ) or in a boss battle. They don't bother me but I know some people detest them.

The writing is pretty funny in the game. The back and forth between Nick and Juliet is hilarious at times and some of the sayings the bosses throw at make you have a cheeky grin.

The game is quite perverse and it makes no effort to hide it, I mean this game has an 18 rating for a reason. There is bad language left right and centre and many a rude comment flying around. I saved one guy yesterday and instead of the usual thanks you get from most games NPCs he simply said he couldn't wait to get home and masturbate over me!

As I said, i'm enjoying playing it but some may find it too crude and repetitive to have fun with.
