BREAKING: PS3 price revealed this morning ...

Recommended Posts

The way I look at prices of things is if it's worth it's price in games.....So that's like £400/£35*.....So that's like 10 games or more :|

If you got a Rev you could get a Rev (£175 say) 3 Extra Controllers (£25 each?!) plus around 5 games......THEN you'd still need a PS3 game or 2 for the PS3 to be worth anything at all really, so that's another £100?!?! So then that's like another 2-3 games!!!

Anyway...you'll probably be able to get around 4-7 Revo games a Revo and 3 extra controllers for that price :|

I know that might sound a lil fanboy-y, but I'd never spend that on a console, and I'm a game addict!! I'd much rather go for the Revo..

It's ashame many people will just get a PS3 to be cool, rather than to actually play it.

*Averagly kind of for this gen and probably 1st Party Revo titles

Customer: Hmm that ps3 looks good, how long does it take to cook my beef?

GameWorker:It's actually a games console sir, it has Blu-ray drive, HD, a big fuck-arse hard drive (which really is unnescessary) and is FUCKING HUGE

C:Hm.. not bad, how much is it?

GW:£400 sir

C:Fuck you? Are you joknig? Fuck off what's that tv remote shaped thing over there, WOAH i move it and stuff happens, how much?

GW: £150 sir, or £200 for 2 controller attachmentrs and a game.

C:Fuck me blind! Ill take it.

How I wish that were reality.

It'll be more like this:

C: I want to buy one of these next gen consoles

GW: Alright then, we have the PS3 at £400, for that you get a machine, a DVD format that could well be obsolete in 6 months, and 1 horribly designed controller.

C: Hmmmm, sounds crap, and what about the other one.

GW: The Nintendo Revolution is priced at £150, for that you get the first true advancement in games in over ten years, a customisable controller you can use by moving or pressing the buttons, and for an extra £30 you get a game.

C: Sounds great, but what was the name of that first one again?

GW: PS3

C: *Gasp* PlayStation!! Gimme gimme gimme, I can go without eating for a few weeks.

By the time the bare minium is purschsed (2 pads and one or two games) your talking about £500, crap thats expensive. For that price I would rather put my money towards a car, or upgrading my pc.

€499-€599?

And I heard people calling the Xbox 360 Core System expensive. The ones who did get it were considered spoilt FFS. How the hell are they going to react to this?!

Big problem there is, I won't be able to get a decent-length job until Summer '08 (because I'm 16 at the end of Summer '07 ><). Even then, I was planning to spending a lot of that money on gifts were Christmas and birthdays, as well as Mother's Day and Father's Day ._.

I don't even need Blu-Ray, DVD will be here to stay for another few years I bet, so the need for a new, pricey format just seems like a waste. Especially if it flops (and there very well may be a chance of it).

That my firiend is the years best post.

I agree, so funny!

...and my two pence worth - it's a little too much to warrant me buying it, there's no way I'll be spending that much! When/if a price drop comes I might do!

You can all joke about nobody buying it, and I agree that parents will be deterred but lets not forget the mid 20s-early 30s demographic who do 9-5 office jobs and will be able to afford them, and gladly spend god knows how much. It will sell fine, it will sell out, it will just have a press backlash for its price point.

Just heard that Toys 'r' us are taking pre-orders for the PS3.

for $50 you can get yourself a PS3 premium pack (with 60gb hard-drive) and two games on launch.

That means that Sony has been in discussion with retailers (well the largest ones) and they're doing what they did with the PS2.. you get a folder and fill out pre-orders for £20/$50 fee you can have a system guaranteed on launch.

There is a cut off point and after that nobody is assured a system.. many stores wont have any allocated for people without pre-orders.

I remember popping £20 on the till for my PS2 in Argos and it was the last day before the cut off point (some time in late September) and I got my PS2 in November waiting for me on the shelf with everyone else scrapping to get one on eBay.

Sony is much more organised here and if you cough up the money early you can get guaranteed a system.. unlike what 360 consumers got. Many 360 premium pre-order people didn't get their system and ended up walking home with a core pack and £200 in accesories.

I think anyone with £20 and some vague motivation to get a PS3 will be able to on launch.

I hope Nintendo do the same instead of having 16 hour DS-esque camp outs.

100% agree, there is still a cool factor about the PS3 which has been with a generation since the PS1.

Ever heard of the 3P room? Porn, Pool and Playstation.. it's what all bachelors aspire to have.. and they don't live in a world where money is an issue like pointed out- parents do.

What could this mean? this generation kids do not get the Playstation, they get a Nintendo system.. and they grow up with Nintendo because it's a more affordable system.

and when this generation grows up they will buy another Nintendo system and Nintendo becomes 'cool' again like Sony once had.

However a lot of cool marketing will need to follow, I remember being in awe at the Fincher PS2 adverts.

It would probaly be a nicer earner, to pre-order one, then when you get it stick it on ebay, it's bound to sell out and will give a good profit for anyone who has the money to invest in the first place.

the problem I see for the PS3 at the moment is it's too expensive and its just plain ugly, it really is.

Here is a theory:

Yesterday Sony Europe person revealed the price of the PS3.

Today Sony is denying it all, and blaming a bad translation.

They could just be testing us all, and see how we would react to that price they revealed yesterday. They certainly got enough responses.

LOOK OMG RETRO LOVER FOR GOD

'Cause he said the F word.

I think Substeinar has got it bang on there- someone cocked up, figured it was common knowledge and released what his price range is (€100 is still a lot)

I think it's quite likely Sony plays the monopoly card- it will have the first blu ray drive on the market being a home brew tech. and that will be £700, making the PS3 at £500 seem cheap (oo blu ray included)

That's what happened when the PS2 came out, DVD players on their own cost about £250 (for a Sony one, i know there was some cheaper ones that did the job) and it just seemed to make sense.

the ps2 dvd drives were shit. I'd rather have a ps3 with a dvd drve. Blueray is not the next big thing.

Haha!

£400 ftw! Or not...

I can't believe this. Before, consoles used to be a barely exceptable xmas present but even the 360 is a bit much for that (i think). Soon we will have to take out a "Console Mortgage" *shudder*

Anyone thought that these prices might not include VAT or rounding up after VAT? I think £400 is quite hot if we need to put a price on it.
