Dont Mess With The Zohan

I was suprised by this, wasnt expecting much since for the past few years Sandler doesnt seem to have come out with much but I really enjoyed it. Thought it had some good laugh out loud moments and even though some of the political statements about the Middle East were spread a bit too thick it didnt bother me too much.

7.5/10

Militarism = very very bad.

Couldn't agree more. But if bugs sent huge asteroids to Earth I'd be quite agressive about it.

I think that point goes across better with Enders Game then Starship Troopers, of course I never read the book and it's been ages since I've seen the movie, so eh.

Yeah, cause that's what the movie is about... That's the message. Bugs sending asteroids to earth. Cause we all know how much of a threat giant bugs from outer space!

The bugs represent foreign hostility... And the book pretty much states that all hostile activity must be dealt with by way of extermination, through a disciplined and obedient militarist system. The movie spoofs these concepts, did you not notice? Grrr.

I disagree. Not even in the same league.

Well I've actually read Ender's Game. The old people sending the young in to fight an uncecessary war based upon misunderstandings and deception for the promise of some abstract honour, or for the purpose of patriotism is NOT a novel concept, nor one necessarily portrayed better by EG or ST. One is a sci-fi novel whose whole point is really the game room/the twist at the end, while the other is all about using humour to depict what a joke wars are.

So it depends what point you think is more important in order for you to choose which medium put it across better. Ender's Game very early on was structured to become a trilogy (admittedly, later six books) which means that the whole message was not contained within the single book alone.

I think the point gets across better in the movie, but simply because it's a sentiment that most people actually share these days anyway, so a satire is teh easiest way to get the audience on your side.

N'stuff. Tired of writing now.

Batman - 8/10

First time I've watched this all the way through. A bit more serious than the Adam West show, but it still has that great camp quality. Jack Nicholson was also wonderful as the Joker.

"HE STOLE MY BALLOONS!"

The Lost Boys - 8/10

Nice to see where Kiefer gained the expertise to rip a man's neck off with his own teeth.

Casino Royale - 9/10

Much, much better than Quantum of Solace in retrospect. Love it.

The Sixth Sense - 8/10

Didn't realise this was done by M. Night, it's much better than his other films. I knew the "twist" thanks to 50 First Dates, maybe I'd have enjoyed it more had it not been spoiled for me. Mischa Barton's first appearance terrified me. :(

Exactly. We all know how much a threat the other things which are shown in films, but it doesn't matter because they're not representing anything?

The bugs represent foreign hostility... And the book pretty much states that all hostile activity must be dealt with by way of extermination, through a disciplined and obedient militarist system. The movie spoofs these concepts, did you not notice? Grrr.

I've not read the book so I'll take your word for it on the first bit. As such I can't really tell what they're spoofing if I don't know the victim thereof.

Revolutionary Road

Absolutely brilliant. Not the romantic sob story the poster on buses makes it look like. Honest and scathing of life and living it, and perhaps resonates with me a bit like how Catcher In The Rye did, more about my fear of "the end" and floating, not knowing why or where I am in life.

So brutally realistic, with nothing and no one being just a plot-device.

It also never, as a whole, "agrees" with anyone one character, forcing us to question, and evaluate our own views on life anf the world and how we fit in.

Stunning visuals and excellent performances by both DiCaprio and Winslet, with Winslet deserving her win and any future wins at the awards.

One of those films you could easily choose to analyse and talk about inessays and stuff.

10/10 or 9.9/10 as it unrealistically didn't feature the children as much as it should have done, being a nuclear family situation.

Laputa Castle in the Sky

Been meaning to watch this for ages. Charming. Anna Paquin's oh so correct accent did grate though, which is strange as I figured it'd be Beek that would annoy. Anyway yes. Nice little tale and that captivating charm.

And also momma; damn you could rock one hell of a motorboat on those.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.

Interesting, infact I was exceedingly impressed by this film. I've never thought to watch any of Underworld before and only when because of a mishap of walking out of the cinema when I went to watch it a couple of days ago.

I recommend watching it, there's cheesy moments ''This is only the beginning'' is used, I nearly facepalmed at that point, but I'm aware that it makes alot of sense and proceeds the other two very well.

Kidulthood

So much better than I expected, I really enjoyed it. The girl at the start getting bullied was pretty horiffic, and the plot was definitely gripping.

Did you watch the one with the voiceover, or without?

Either way, flawed opinion.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Slightly more adult than I thought it'd be, with full frontal nudity and loads of sex and stuff.

Nothing much to say, I'm not really a fan of comedy/romance films though.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Bought and watched this on Friday after hearing good things about it and having it recommended. So, the film was interesting however I feel it was the story which made it the most interesting. Visually, it looked great. Had some of the guys who worked on Spirited Away doing the visuals and there were bits and pieces which harked back to that but it was different enough to distance itself from that or from the Studio Ghibli films. It was pretty pleasing on the eye. Like I mentioned earlier, the story was quite interesting if a bit hard at points to keep up because, as the title suggests, the girl kept jumping through time and so you kept going back to certain areas or things were constantly changing. That said, it did hold me the whole way through, especially once she realised things were going wrong from her time meddling and she had to fix them. I think it's an anime that'll probably be better appreciated on a second or third watch through as you will know the story and if there were bits that you didn't understand you'll be able to focus on them and get the meaning/understanding you missed first time through.

So it was a great film that was visually and story-wise interesting.
