You preffered it to TDK?

By the way, yup, it rocked. Shame about the action, mainly that final showdown, such a waste. :(

Yeah I did prefer it to TDK, thats not saying TDK isnt a brilliant movie. This was just more of what I was looking for in a comic book movie.

Yeah, definitely the first superhero movie to feel like the hero from the page has come to life on screen.

The Dark Knight doesn't really count, it's kinda too different to. And it's not too similar to the comic Bats.

TDK is pretty similar to the Graphic Novel it's actually based off of though.

It's based off a graphic novel? Didn't know that.

But....everything else about it is completely different, I think is the point.

Original o'course. Going on the majority of US remakes I thought that would be the wisest choice.

Sorry didnt notice your reply until now.

I do think the original is the better of the two but mostly because I think the person playing Paul in the original was brilliant. Otherwise the US version is pretty good, I may even prefer Tim Roth as the father.

What graphic novel because from what I´ve heard influenced by some of them not made after.

I could be wrong about that though.

isn't the reboot loosely based on Miller's The Dark Knight pair? I'm not sure that TDK is directly based on anything but I'm pretty sure Begins is.

Yeah, thought as much. Was the plot unchanged or did they dumb it down, Hollywood style?

In other news I had a horror marathon with some friends last night.

[●REC]

Quite good stuffs, the documentary style worked very well. Not particularly scary though, just quite jumpy toward the end.

Dog Soldiers

Not in the slightest bit scary, which made our horror films night by this point look very tame, but it was entertaining enough.

7 / 10

The Exorcist

I only have the first half to judge on as the file stopped playing halfway through for some reason. Until that point though, it wasn't at all frighting, but I guess it was building up so nyeah.

Blaire Witch Project

Second time I've watched and I love it. Films where you don't see the monster / whatever always do the best. Good stuffs.

I tried watching the Blair Witch Project once, I saw about five minutes then they were whining about passing the same log, losing the map or some shit. Bored me to tears.

And this was when I was on a plane to Florida about 8 years ago.

The Exorcist isn't all that frightening by todays standards, but when it was released......different story back then.

The crawling down the stairs thing is still creepy.

I found it very scary when I saw it, when I was 12. Probably would find it somewhat scary nowadays. It is scary IMO. Yeah.

That was a weird post.

It was a shot for shot remake, I think the only changes were a few small ones and possibly a change to one of the fourth wall scenes but barely noticable.

No. :heh:

The Dark Knight Returns/Strikes Again are an Elseworlds tale, i.e an alternate universe, not current continuity.

You;re referring to Batman: Year One. Batman Begins is VERY loosely based on it. But really, it has no supervillains in it, no detail on his training (a few panels), a different inspiration for using a bat, and also doubles as Catwoman's origin.

Bears little resemblance, unless you count Gordon not being comissioner yet, and Flass being a corrupt cop. (Falcone might be in the book, can't remember)

TDK has been said to have been inspired by The Long Hallowe'en I think, but again, I think that's just like saying Begins is based on Year One.

Rachel Getting Married

The new film from Jonathan Demme about the marriage of Rachel Buchman and her ex-drug addict sister Kym. It's all shot in a verite style in order to make the viewer seem like a guest at the wedding, and it works. Except this wedding, and the days leading up to it, are unlike any other wedding you've ever been to.

Anna Hathaway is fantastic as Kym and the film is one of the most enjoyable i've seen this year. It's unconventional in it's style, so as to convey the feeling of participation and it's hard to find anything wrong with it. It goes downhill a little during the reception, but otherwise it's a highly enjoyable, insightful film about families and one that you should try and see when it eventually comes out over here.

Cloverfield

After watching a review i decided to give this a watch and i never knew how much hidden stuff the director put in this movie. For example the satilite falling into the ocean, resulting in the attack. Or the japanese oil company that has alot to do with all kinds of things.

I found it quite entertaining, alot different from the conventional film, it was more like a home movie. Lots of good shots of the monster, especually near the end.

Just a good movie all-round.

Quantum of Solace

Was never going to be as good as Casino Royale. But was a solid effort, slightly let down by a thin story and questionable camera work in places

Welsh_gamer posted on the bargain board that The King of Kong: A Fistful of Dollars was going for a fiver on HMV. I ordered it, received it and got around to watching it last night.

Obviously its never gonna win any Oscars or anything, but for any self respecting nerd, this docu-film is a must see. Billy Mitchell, the holder of the worlds highest score for Donkey Kong, comes across as a real twat and drama queen. He reminds me a bit of Sylar from Heroes too. The other guy who features is the contender to Mitchells throne- Steve Wiebe. A man who has gone through everything possible to try and prove that a score he submitted was genuine.

Its full of a bunch of geeks, but like I said, its defo worth gettin a hold of if you are into computer games and want some insight into what people go through to try and claim a world record and get into the Guiness Book.

Fargo

I thought I'd better see this as everyone goes on about it, and now I'm sorry I left it so long. It's funny, brutal, and wry...a great black comedy. The performance by Frances McDormand is stunning, she's so lovable. And steve buscemi is just one of my favourite actors anyway, hilarious and creepy at the same time. William H Macy also plays desperation to a tee. It's just so perfectly written and performed, top notch.

Some lines that made me laugh out loud:

''that's a fountain of conversation, that's a geyser''

''plug me into the ozone baby, c'mooon''

''you should see the other guy''

One of the two dappy blondes: ''I couldn't really say... he wasn't circumcised''.

Also the scene with the policeman and the man reporting had me in stiches. I'm sure everyone does but I loved the ''Yah'' and the ''little guy, kinda funny looking''. Oh and when Peter Stormare is chasing the car, and you can just see the red lights, so enthralling. Plus when Marge has caught him and they're in the car, that scene is brilliant. :)
