But the characters are really cool and easily distinguishable and it also has great atmosphere. Posted March 31, 2007 Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid A western which seems to be more of a homage to classic pre-sergio leone westerns. Has thrills, action and humour with a great cast. The pace seems to jump back and forward as the movie flows in different styles from classic western, silent movies, tense noir and joyful romps. Still and all time classic with memorable scenes such as "Knives or guns." and the dynamite packed train carriage. 9/10 Great stylistic ending aswell, think I may watch it again. Also very true. BelleVille Rendevous One of greatest films ever. A swirling cacophny of spectacular dreamlike worlds made utterly believable by insane and superbly full and realistic characters. Posted March 31, 2007 The History Boys Alan Bennett has a very distorted view of sex, public schools and the world in general. The characters, and their tolerance, were absurb. Posted April 1, 2007 Shrek 2 The overall story was very predictable although the fairy added a new touch to it but the gags really make it stand out. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw Pus in Boots for the first time. Somehow I felt some parts of the rivallery between the cat and donkey were cut out of the film though. Music is also amazing and the characters are likeable. I'd like a bit better textured skin though, the skin in FF Advent Children looks a lot more realistic than in Shrek and I think it would help the atmosphere. 8.5/10 Highlander Not much to say about that film. The whole concept and story is cool and it feels quite classic except for the music. Christopher Lambert suites the role very well. However, I think they should have put more effort into the swordfights. They fight like amateurs when they actually had many centuries to perfect their skills. Posted April 2, 2007 Heart Of Glass Werner Herzog's strange 1976 film about a pre-industrial Bavarian villiage in turmoil. Absolutely stunning looking film, fantastic dialogue and a very, very strange atmosphere. There is a narrative to the film, but the film is much more about setting the atmosphere than telling any kind of story. One of the most incredible things about it is that the entire cast acted every scene under hypnosis, which certainly explains a lot and does add to the strange atmosphere of the village. The last line of dialogue really sealed it for me. "And the men set off, pathetic and senseless, in a boat that was far too small". Wow. 9/10 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Posted April 2, 2007 I watched these 4 over the weekend Mr Bean's Holiday Surprisingly good, kept to the original key elements that made Mr Bean so good in the first place. A very laugh out loud sort of film in places. The earning money bits were great among other parts. 8/10 Goldmember Saw this on Channel 4 on Sunday, very good film and slightly better than the 2nd film in the series. Nice surprise at the end as well. Was surprised by Mini-me joining Austin to stop Dr Evil 9/10 Naked Gun 2 1/2 Funny sequel to the first Naked Gun. Great laughs throughout, the comedy fighting scenes were great along with the bits where Drebin tried to cut his ropes using a shelving unit and also tried to disarm a nuclear bomb sequence as well. 9.5/10 Casino Royale Saw this today, very good film. Was amazed on how well Daniel Craig played Bond in the film, great film keeping close to the book as they did in the previous Bond films bar the last Dalton and Brosnan films. 9.5/10 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Posted April 2, 2007 Ah Easter holidays. Although it was a bit too bright this afternoon/ early evening to be watching anything, I had the place to myself pretty much so I stuck on Lost in Translation. I saw the ending of it a year ago in French, but apart from that I've not watched this since seeing it in the cinema. I feared that it would be rubbish, cos people I know keep saying that.
