Julius Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Just announced in today's Pokémon Presents! Overseen and planned for by Game Freak, developed by Pokémon Works. Connects with Pokémon Home, but also sounds like you will be able to get Pokémon in-game. Edited 5 hours ago by Julius
Dcubed Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Looks like we can mix and match core mechanics from all of the various mainline games if we can have both Mega Evolution and Terastelisation in the same battle! Quote Get ready to experience everything you love about Pokémon battles all in one place—in Pokémon Champions. This new, battle-focused game will feature familiar mechanics such as Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves, creating an environment conducive to rich and varied strategies for new and experienced Trainers alike. It’s not just familiar mechanics—you’ll be able to bring in classic Pokémon from Pokémon HOME, too! Look forward to cross-platform battles alongside your favorite Pokémon on Nintendo Switch and mobile, with a variety of different modes available for your desired experience. So this is basically an official version of Pokemon Showdown? I imagine that this will become the new standard for Pokemon VGC going forward, with the mainline games no longer used for competitive battling; but just for raising Pokemon for transfer into Champions. I'm happy with this direction. It's long overdue at this point. Edited 5 hours ago by Dcubed
Dcubed Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Have to say though, I am feeling a bit conflicted about this decision. This essentially means that mainline Pokemon has now gone mobile, and that this represents the end of the mainline series when it comes to its main battle mechanics. The "mainline" games can now essentially be whatever Game Freak want to do, as they don't need to fit the classic gameplay mold anymore. The only thing they need to do is to allow you to transfer Pokemon that you catch in Gen 10-20-whatever into Pokemon Champions; they could be turned into football puzzle games for all it matters now. Kind of sad to think that there's nothing new to look forward to when it comes to core gameplay mechanics in future Pokemon games going forward... At the very least, Champions severely dilutes the appeal of what we would once think of as the mainline Pokemon series going forward. On the other hand, Mainline Pokemon is fucking crap now anyway; and barely even resembles the classic Dragon Quest-esc RPGs of yesteryear anyway. At least this will give us Pokemon's fundamental battle system in all its full glory... Edited 2 hours ago by Dcubed
Glen-i Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) I hope there's some kind of Battle Tower style gauntlet modes against CPU's. I like testing Pokémon builds there without human unpredictability clouding my judgement, and Scarlet and Violet not having anything like that really dampened my desire to play competitively. It's also the perfect way to bring back Battle Frontier. Beat as many CPU's as you can with various restrictions. If it has something like that, I'm utterly sold! On the other hand, being able to give more then half of your team generation defining mechanics is a recipe for absolute chaos, and I'm all for it! I wonder how getting Pokémon in Champions will work? Will you just be able to choose stuff like Nature, Ability, and even EV's and IV's? How limited will the selection be? So many questions...
