The thread you’ve all been waiting for. You know it’s true. Don’t deny it.

2022 still has a couple of days to go, but I know for a fact that I won’t finish another game. That’s why I decided to put together my very professionally made charts and share them with the world. Prepare yourselves. HERE THEY COME!

First things first:
It's all 'bout the money.

It's all 'bout the dum dum da da dum dum

(Can you tell me whose song this is without looking it up?)

How much money did drahkon spend for gaming in 2022 (this includes games, subs and things like controllers, VR, etc.)?
Take a guess. Ready? Here goes:

Spoiler

Money-spent-on-gaming-2022.png

174,12€ - quite Franky frankly, that’s not much considering how many games I’ve completed this year. It’s basically all thanks to PS+ Suuuuuuuper Edition.

franky-suuuuper.gif

It provided me with more than I could play in the second half of the year. Easy choice to extend it. Went with Premium again because I was able to snag a very good deal.

Alright then. Onto the next stats: How many games has drahkon played in 2022?
Here’s a hint: It’s a number between 0 and 150.

Spoiler

84 – More than in 2021, but I don’t remember the exact number from that year.
And what would this stat be without a chart? The same as without a chart: Nothing special. Here’s a chart anyway. It’s self-explanatory:

Total-games-per-month-2022.png

A weird distribution. High activity in the summer months. You’d think I’d play less given the weather. Apparently I spent lots of time at home playing video games because it was too warm to go outside :p

Next up: Backlog?

Now this is a weird one, because I counted my games in an odd way.
You’ll 5 options in the upcoming chart:

  • No
  • Yes
  • Yes PS+ Essential
  • Yes PS+ Extra
  • Yes PS+ Premium

Why did I do it like that? No idea. It gets even weirder: The “No” section is actually games I bought + games played via Gamepass. Why did I do it like that? NO IDEA!
I think I’m gonna remove this stat for next year or just count the “true” backlog games (i.e. games I bought before 2023).
Alright: Here’s the chart:

Spoiler

Backlog-percentage-2022.png

15 games from my “true” backlog – not bad, could be better, though .

“Oh my god, there’s more? YAWN!”
Piss off, Timmy.

This one’s fun: With the arrival of PS+ Sweet Chin Music Edition I wanted to know how many games I’ve played from the sub compared to non-sub games:

Spoiler

Non-sub-vs-PS-2022.png

Almost 50/50. I would take any bet that it will shift towards PS+ in 2023.
(You probably noticed that this is basically a slight variation of the previous chart…I know, the previous chart will not exist next year.)

9!
“Excuse me?”
Nine!
“What are you talking about, you old fart?”

nine-nine-terry-jeffords.gif

Well, not 99…just 9, Timmy. That’s the amount of platforms I’ve used for gaming this year. Now it’s another round of “TAKE A WILD FUCKING GUESS”.
Can you guess what my most played device is? I think you can!

Spoiler

Platform-distribution-2022.png

Surprising to no one: PS4/PS5 takes the top spot.
The wonderful PSVita got some use, as well. I’ll try to keep it up next year.
Thanks to the Halo games and the odd Steam purchase my PC threw a few games onto my monitor, too.

Other-platforms-vs-PS-games-2022.png

Had a Gamepass sub for January and February which explains the numbers. The rest are the aforementioned Steam purchases (highlight: Vampire Survivors)

“Can I go now?”
No, there’s still some stuff left. This one’s for @Hero-of-Time

PLATINUMS, WHOOOOHOOOOO!
Alright, final guessing round: How many Platinums did I collect in 2022? Hint: It’s a pretty well-known number!

Spoiler

The answer to life, the universe, and everything.
42!

Platinums-per-month-2022.png

Unsurprisingly, this distribution correlates with my games played per month.
Bonus chart:

Platinums-vs-PS-games-2022.png

Looks like I’m finally free from the intense trophy hunt. Only going for the Platinum if I enjoy the game (…and for Hades – stupid game).

Alright, Timmy. The last charts are coming up.
“FINALLY!”
SHUT UP.

I gave every game I played a score out of 10.
One got a measly 1.5 (if you followed my posts, you may remember the game).
And 5 got a perfect 10!
Wanna guess which ones? Don’t let me stop you. Here’s the answer:

Spoiler

Scores-Jan-to-Jun-2022.png

Scores-Jul-to-Dec-2022.png

It had to be Halo 2: Anniversary. It crashed so many times during my mate’s and my co-op run. Absolutely unacceptable.

As for the perfect 10s: All of them are well deserved. Masterpieces, each and every one of them.

And now for the big questi – “YO, WHAT’S YOUR GOTY?”
Oh Timmy, my simple-minded friend…you annoy me.

It was a tough decision and very close result, but I think we all know there’s only one winner:

Spoiler

Slay the Spire

Just kidding, it’s Elden Ring, of course. A revolutionary and generation defining game.

And there you have it. Drahkon’s Gaming in 2022. I had a lot of fun with my biggest hobby this year. The industry may slowly but surely approach its own death but until then I’m gonna give it my all.

Video games have been with me since I was a little kid. And in recent years they’ve shown me how much I “need” them. Many times, they’ve helped me to wind down, deal with anxiety attacks and escape the horrors of real life.

And then there’s talking about games/gaming. Yes, this place is very quiet, but I visit almost every day and I’m happy that there are still some people posting.

Very glad to have @darksnowman and @Hero-of-Time for some good banter :D
And @Julius who has posted some incredible stuff over the year. Your experiences with games, regular news and updates, your opinions…They have surely been missed and it’s great that you’re back to some extent. Keep it up, go your own pace and keep dancing in your apartment.

The General Chit Chat was the place I mostly lurked about. I enjoyed most of what was posted, especially @Cube's eventual good news about Ollie. Not going to lie, your Christmas picture with the little lad made me smile from ear to ear with a little happy tear. :)

Well, I think that’s all from me for now :D *turns on PS5*

Well, I mean, it was FUCKING hot this summer, I would've bunkered down and stayed indoors with the air-con on if I could've; so I totally get the graph.

Note to self: consider living off the land and just playing NSO.
Won't pretend to understand the backlog chart.
You totally gamed the numbers to produce that even split between PS4 and 5. I demand a recount!
Needs moar platinums.

Games Played

Spoiler

81 games in total. Moistly Xbox, a few PlayStation and one on Switch.

Games that I really enjoyed (no particular order or amount)

Spoiler
  • A Plague Tale: Innocence (Loved the story and the stealth, last part was pretty bad though)
  • Sunset Overdrive (Movement is a ton of fun and just an all round enjoyable game)
  • The Outer Worlds (the closest we'll get to a Firefly game. Interesting setting and characters)
  • Quantum Break (Great time travel adventure)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy (Much better than expected).
  • Tunic (Even though I effectively turned off the combat, the puzzles themselves made the game great)
  • Horizon: Forbidden West (Wonderful combat, great world)
  • Lost in Random (Really fun game, interesting mechanics)
  • Bugsnax (the best Pokémon game)
  • Paradise Killer (Interesting mystery, very relaxed atmpsphere)
  • Supraland (a great puzzle-based Metroidvaina)
  • Sonic Origins (Three ports of great games...and Sonic CD)
  • Road 96 (Lots of interesting interactions)
  • Yakuza 0 (fun combat, wonderful atmostphere)
  • PowerWash Simulator (Very relaxing)
  • Stray (Lovely little game)
  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Great gameplay like the first)
  • Immortals Fenyx Rising (Really fun combat, really fun narration)
  • Tinykin (another lovely little game)
  • Deathloop (very fun mechanics, wish it was slightly less hand-holdy, though)
  • Return to Monkey Island (Great point and click game, disappointing ending. A lot like Monkey Island 2)
  • Sonic Frontiers (Great open world gameplay, still stuff to improve but best 3D Sonic game)
  • High on Life (Just a ton of fun)
  • Pentiment (Very interesting setting and a unique feeling experience).

I don't keep tabs on yearly statistics, but I can tell this was a weird year for me. First half was quite busy for gaming, but I slowed down my playthroughs considerably in the second half (partly due to new real life relationships, partly due to the growing activity of the local Smash scene).

I expect any future progress to be far more sporadic. And hopefully cheaper.

Regardless, my Top 10 games of the year were:

  1. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2
  2. Katamari Damacy
  3. Steamworld Dig 2
  4. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call
  5. Ever Oasis
  6. INMOST
  7. Donkey Kong Land III
  8. Defenders of Oasis
  9. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
  10. Streets of Rage

Top 3 replays

  1. Wario Land 3
  2. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin [Richer Mode]
  3. Chiki Chiki Boys

Best Game that I couldn't finish: This War of Mine
