[Let’s Play: Together] Borderlands (Part 6)

Old Nintendo Gamer & Son plough on through the Borderlands. A recording mess-up made our Skag Meat collection disappear, but a Crazy Earl story mission is left unfinished.

No one watched the last part. I guess no-one like Ghor.

Oh well, here's the next part, a return to a previous planet with upgrades in hand as we discover an entirely new area, one of my favourites in the game in spite of it's short length.

Also pick up a few expansions on Bryyo.

Double post dang it.

Just put Part 19 up and also recorded Part 20 however due to the contents of Part 21 I think I may hold off a bit on that one because I have certain plans for it and I'm not sure I'm yet feeling entirely up to it, therefore I may end up taking a break in the LP. About halfway through the whole thing now though.

Once  you see where Part 20 ends, you will understand exactly what I'm talking about

Finished Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered (I said I wouldn't do it...I'M A LIAR...ehem).

Well...solid shooter. Nothing more, nothing less. Completed it on Veteran and because some areas have infinitely respawning enemies it was hell at times.
It was fun, though. Quite the interesting story which ended a little abruptly, sadly.

In other news: I started playing SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE, the sequel to the most innovative shooter I've played in years.

Spoiler

It is actually a rogue-lite :D Did not expect that.

Looks like procedurally generated levels, upgrades (like HP, reduced reload times, etc.), some new skills and more are all part of the game. LOVE IT.

Going to be uploading less frequently now to give the episodes time to breathe as they haven't really been seen by people.

That being said, I did upload Part 20 this evening.

I used the extra time in editing to make the episode better, I go over version differences between the NTSC, PAL and Trilogy versions in regards to certain rooms and there's also a boss battle in there in the process. So a lot happened but the next episode is going to be particularly notable as it's one of Prime 3's most memorable areas.

Over the last week, I've been playing and putting up my 6 part Play-through of Donut County on the Switch.  I also talk about it on the N-E Cafe Podcast this week.  Part 6 will go up tomorrow, and I won't flood this thread with all 5 other parts, but here is the first.  All the others are up on my YouTube Channel if you're interested.

Apart from what drahkon wrote obviously.

@bob including that. Other stuff made me think "I'll see if someone makes a mode which removes the story" but his post makes it sound like they removed everything I liked about the first.

Fair enough. i'm not a fan of rogue-ish games either. If i do get it, i'll wait for the VR version anyway.

What happens when you take the scariest moment in Metroid Prime 3 and then enhance it with the power of video editing to make it even scarier? You get part 21 of my Let's Play of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. That being said... I really don't know how much scarier I actually made it...

Also get the Seeker Missiles in this and there is a section towards the end where all the scary stuff is dispensed with to get the second bomb component.

In related news I have just recorded up to the end of Skytown now. Next episode had a moment that saw me burst out in laugher...

Been busy working on The Messenger for the Podcast, so letting my son son do a few videos by himself.  The first one though is with him playing, but me narrating to explain what happens in a game of Realm Royale, and how it differentiates itself from other Battle Royale games.

[Morgan Plays] Realm Royale (Introduction)

Morgan tackles a 4-Man Squad game in the classic Battle Royale 3rd person shooter. Playing as a Warrior class, he Heroically Leaps to explain what this game offers that other Battle Royale games don't.

Bit late with my post for July but it will be a pretty short post, I've only completed one game since I last checked in here. That one game is a big one though, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition on the Switch. I only played the original in 2017 and I was tempted to jump immediately into the new epilogue but I didn't think I remembered the details of the story well enough for it to be impactful so I decided to play through the entire base game again. I assumed that knowing what to expect and being more experience with the battle system would take the playtime down but it still took me 65 hours to complete. The face lift is fantastic, all of the principle characters are much more expressive which helps to make the story even more impactful, and in general the graphics are pretty nice but there are some pretty low-res textures at times (and peripheral characters look straight out of the PS2 era) but it is absolutely a huge improvement over the Wii original. When I played through it in 2017 I took a couple of month break when I reached the Mechonis which ruined the flow of the narrative for me somewhat and probably negatively impacted my opinion on the game but playing through it again I was surprised at how much of it I remembered - some of the emotional moments are better the first time around but the key moments still hit home for me.

My main criticism of it is that towards the end there is no way to save the game, I ended up having to put it on casual mode to beat the final boss quicker because it was 5 in the morning and I didn't want to put it in stand by mode and not be able to play Animal Crossing when I woke up. If it was my first play through of the game I probably would have been okay with starting the final section over again but I already overcame the final boss the first time round so switching casual mode on to save myself an inconvenience seemed fine to me. Really happy to see that it's sold so well though, it absolutely deserves a second (heck, technically third) chance at success so it's nice to see it sell over a million copies.

I just finished The Last of Us: Part II but I'll hold off on posting my thoughts about it until next month, I'm hoping to have a few more games checked off my list to talk about then too.

I'm not really one of those guys that has to get every single platinum trophy. Ghost of Tsushima is surprisingly easy to platinum and I just had to read all books in Persona 5 to finnish that one off. Ni No Kuni 2 was probably the hardest so far, needed to do every single skirmish battle and the flags for those things appear at random all over the map so it was kind of time consuming >_< Spider-Man was a little difficult but they all unlocked eventually.

4 platinums within the month isn't bad. Currently working on World of Final Fantasy but I think that one is going to take a while.

Doing an episode every other day seems to be working out...

...OK, time for a major episode, we destroy Elysia's Leviathan Seed Shield with a thermonuclear bomb... but not without resistance:

Have to keep the recording going ahead but I'm having to do some research as my memory of everything that is required in the Pirate Homeworld is patchy outside of the upgrades and the boss fights.

Also my recording got corrupted when picking up the third bomb unit and I'd already recorded up to Part 24 so had to either play through the entire game up to that point or borrow someone else's footage and credit them for that part, I chose the latter so that's why the missile count is significantly higher at one point.

Welp, I've booted up a fresh file on Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.
And against my better judgement, I might have also started a new file of Octopath Traveler.

Don't get me wrong, Octopath is crazy good, but...

Spoiler

I know full well that the proper final boss is incredibly difficult and I know full well that it's completely optional and not required to see the credits, but I'm gonna end up doing it again because I won't be able to resist...

I love me some Final Fantasy VI style tower bosses of horror! And that music is something else.

Is Galdera the hardest Turn-based RPG Final Boss? Because I think it might well be! Wish me luck for when I reach him...

Played a variety of little sessions on a variety of games recently, and one of them being GRID: Autosport.  Trying out the new addition of the online mode.

[Lee Plays] GRID: Autosport Online (Part 1)

Old Nintendo Gamer tests the viability of the new online update to GRID: Autosport, and comes away impressed. No laughing at the driving though, as he races around the tight streets of Columbus Bay, Barcelona in an Audi.

Really struggling to play Rayman Legends. I've been wanting to finally get to this game since playing the demo on Wii U but now that I've got round to it, I'm not really feeling it. The levels themselves are fun but everything surrounding them just feels... like a mobile game? There's no story, I'm unlocking stuff but it all seems pretty meaningless. The gameplay itself is fun and obviously it looks absolutely gorgeous but yeah, dunno. I'll press on, just unlocked the second world

Morgan's been playing a lot of Borderlands, and I decided to return to Overwatch to get a video up showing how smooth it is on Switch.

Got given a Founder's Pack eShop code for Rogue Company, the new HiREz 4v4 team based 3rd person shooter.  It'll be going free to play later in the year, but if you're interested on what's on offer in the Founder's Pack, take a look at our first massacre in two maps while playing the Demolition Mode.  Morgan and I break down what you can and can't do in the game.

[Let’s Play: Together] Rogue Company (Demolition Intro.)

Old Nintendo Gamer & Son take turns trying out Rogue Company’s Demolition Mode. Two different maps were assigned, The Favelas, and The Canals. Big thank you to AtuKiTi_XD on Twitter for supplying us with the Founder’s Pack eShop code to make this video possible.

We've been busy with the 8th Part of our Borderlands playthrough, but have also started to work through every map currently available in Hypercharge: Unboxed, a game I bang on about on the N-E Cafe Podcast often enough.  So, here's your chance to see what's on offer in the very first map of the game.

[Let’s Play: Together] Hypercharge: Unboxed (OPERATION ALLEY)

Old Nintendo Gamer & Son play through the regular mode and protect the 3 Hypercores of Operation Alley.
