The game is out next week. I haven't been particularly fond of the trailer above (I think it actually was the UI that I disliked), but as the quote says it's work in progress footage. The following gif might represent more recent footage:

Anyway, what really convinced me was the very recently released Eurogamer article.

I'm so happy we get a new "Burnout" game and I really hope this will get good reviews and equally good coverage. Fingers crossed.

So, this is out today!

I did get some credit on my PS4 but then I realised that this is getting a physical release for only a few pounds more and it comes with the previous crash mode game.

I'll be playing this when my copy arrives, oddly it doesn't seem to be widely available but there are a few copies on eBay... either that or ShopTo just don't have it. ::shrug:

The way I understand this is that it's mostly single player modes available now but there are leaderboards so that's nice.

Multiplayer is coming later (presumably free... maybe not?) which is amusing because that technically means that this driving game has a roadmap even if it's unintentional. :p

Either way, for what's already there I'd say it's worth the £20 - £28 it costs (£28 physical, I'm assuming digital is £20) and if we get the other stuff soon then that's great.

If this game is the starting point for a Burnout style revival, then count me in as while it looks far from perfect, there's clearly a lot to like here from impressions.

Now I've just got to get some music put onto a USB drive so that I have some good driving/crashing music. :D

Digital Foundry have just brought out a video on it.

Looks like it runs well enough on the Pro/One X... not quite as well on the PS4/Xbox One S but still... it looks playable.

I reckon with a decent soundtrack, this will be quite fun. :D

I've read that you can play your own music in the background on a PS4 by just sticking them on a USB drive in a folder named "Music" so I'm going to try that out. :)

Looks interesting. Shame that there's no music, though. Even something basic would be better. Even if I did decide to pay for a second music service (which I would never do), not having the music distort or get quiet based on what's happening on the game would just be odd. 

As the only way to have music coming out of the same speakers as the game would be on a PC (having music coming from a different direction would be even stranger), the PC version is my only option....however, the game is not available on either Steam, Origin, uPlay or Good old Games. So there isn't even a semi-decent place to get the game from on PC.

Well I got my copy in the post today. I'm going to try it out in a bit and I'll try connecting my Sony Walkman up to my PS4 for music.

I've heard that you can do that and it will use the music application to play them in the background.

No idea if this actually works but it's worth a try.

Edit - Media Player updated, Sony Walkman recognised with entire song library, Dangerous Driving and Danzer Zone 2 installing.

After messing around with a few settings in the media player app and discovering that the majority of the music on my MP3 player is useless...

...I remembered that I had the entire Yuzo Koshiro Best Collection as MP3 format on my player, so the play session was saved. :D

So long as you've got your own music to listen to - might as well mute the menu music - then Dangerous Driving is a joy to behold.

It's Burnout in everything but name, it gets so much right that you can forgive its initial technical shortcomings.

Load times are minimal, especially when you're merely retrying, which if you're trying for the golds... you will be... a lot. ;)

Plenty of fun single player content and trophies to go for, decent handling on the cars and crashes which are decent enough.

It's definitely Burnout on a budget, I can see it getting better over time and in the meantime... I'm going right back for more. :peace:

So... I'm still playing this, despite the number of glitches which were present since day one, but thankfully a lot of these issues have been addressed recently...

UPDATE: 26 APRIL 19 - FIRST UPDATE "No Claims Bonus" should be live on PS4 now and PC shortly.

We're delighted to announce that the first update, "No Claims Bonus", will go live at some point tomorrow (Friday April 26th) on PlayStation 4. PC should also hopefully be tomorrow but we will confirm as soon as we know. Xbox One is currently in submission with Microsoft and is expected to release by end of next week (we have no control over this as it has to go through their processes). 

This will contain the fixes listed below:

  • Prevent unfeasibly short leaderboard entries

  • Fix for 2 Crash bugs, 1 in the menus on Xbox when signing out (according to the stats from Microsoft this accounts for 18% of all Crashes on Xbox) and 1 in game on all platforms (related to hitting quit when in impact time)

  • Prevent AI shooting past the player at super sonic speed

  • Prevent AI speed not being capped when you're in Takedown Camera (hence why they speed past you)

  • Ensure Aftertouch Takedowns give you the advantage they should (not reset at back)

  • Ensure laps always register on Hypercar Shakedown event on Desert Marathon

  • Stop AI always crashing at start of Island Lighthouse track

  • Minimise player getting reset behind persistent wrecks after a Crash

  • Ensure it is possible to get Platinum medal on Formula DD Survival Eve

We will also publish a roadmap next week of other updates and fixes. Our overall priority is to improve the offering we have (fix bugs in the current single player game) and add online racing (followed by other online modes) - over and above adding other new features or additional cars and tracks.  

For example, we do want to add single event but this is not currently in our roadmap.

We are a small team and so a staggered approach is the best way to provide a stable, solid experience for all.

We've included below a taster of just a few of the things that will be in future updates. Full roadmap with approximate dates coming next week:

  • 6 player online race

  • Address collision issues associated with the player car being pushed through the ground, into the air or spun around 180 degrees when experiencing an awkward collision with another vehicle, the barriers or the road.

  • Adjust crash rules when hitting traffic vehicles to ensure they are consistent

  • Switch arrow road markers on a per race basis so they always point the right way for the player.

  • Fix Xbox Leaderboards – the Top filter does not work at the end of an event (it does work in the Leaderboards accessed via the Main Menu).

  • Player camera – we had feedback from a few people that they wanted to see it higher. To be honest we tried raising it and it looked terrible and completely lost the feel we think is critical to the 'in the zone' gameplay we strive for. However we will add the ability to temporarily raise the camera on the right stick when needed.

  • Paint selection – we will save your last choice per car and add ability to step backwards through the options in a future Patch.

Look for news on the Microsoft "No Claims Bonus" update next week and the Roadmap.

 

The game is a lot of fun, even though it's still partially broken, the developer is acting on player feedback given in a timely manner, so it's nice to know that it's getting better soon.

I'm the type of player who likes to go for the gold medals where possible, so I've been doing that a lot, until I get stuck on one and then just settle for silver for now.

Because of the way it's all structured, you can unlock other variations of each class of car so that you can come back with a more specialised vehicle.

I'll be looking forward to the 6 player online race coming in a future update, in time the game might be comparable to playing Burnout Revenge online from back in the day. :D

For now I'm happy to keep grinding through the single player content to the soundtrack of the old Burnout games. :peace:
