OK, y'all ready to vote? The console I'm basing my nominations is...

SNES_Console_lg._V344019168_.0.jpg

That thing, I forget it's name. I think it's Ultra 64 or something...

And it's gonna be based around Smash. Because if I can't shove Pokémon into it, I'm sure as hell gonna shove my 2nd favourite series into it.

Spoiler

snes_super_metroid_p_qxuep2.jpg

Why is Ridley red?

It's Super Metroid. Help Samus on her quest to blow up a planet, even the animals. Blow them up too. Save those frames! That's all she has to do, nothing else matters. Celebrate everyone's favourite red Space Dragon beating the crap out of Pichu by blowing it up! Makes perfect sense.

Available on: SNES, Wii, WiiU, New 3DS and SNES Mini

Spoiler

I just realised that in the top left corner, Screech is whacking Sqwarks with a Baseball Bat. What the hell!?

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. A deep insight into the consequences of living with Multiple Personality Disorder... Or two monkeys jumping on a bunch of Crocodile Pirates, your choice. Either way, everyone's favourite Crocodile loony is here. So why not? Maybe you'll find K. Rappy Keep!

Available on: SNES, Wii, WiiU and New 3DS. Or you could play the GBA port. That's an option. It's not a good one, but eh...

Spoiler

More Carnivorous Plants than you can shake a baby at!

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is the world's first babysitting game. Escort a whiny brat back to it's bro while not getting yourself killed. Actually, this job might not be worth it... Celebrate the Smash character you never knew you needed in your life by dodging a whole bunch of them. OH MY! There's also the GBA port if you're inclined to go more portable,

SNES version available on: SNES and SNES Mini
GBA version available on: GBA, WiiU and 3DS (Ambassador Program only)

BTW, I vote for Game #1.

How long should we give this? A week, 2 weeks?

This is a tough decision for me. I'd be up for voting for any of those games, for entirely different reasons. I'll cast my vote in a couple of days.

You make the deadline, I think. For reference, so far the winner has been decided around the 12th or so.

I don't like Game #1 and I've played Game 2# last year.

So my vote goes to Game #3!

Ban him from the Game Club!

Can't decide on #1 or #2 so going to have to think a bit.

12th sounds good. Let's go with that.

I think choosing Game #3 is a bigger offence than declaring a dislike for Super Metroid :blank:

The selection of games this month isn't immediately appealing.. which is strange because none of them are bad.. yet none of them really excite me right now, either!

I'd maybe go for Game #2, even if I think it might be the weakest of the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy..

Rating DKC2 lower than DKC3? You are also a good man, Nando.

There are some hot takes in this thread and I love each and everyone one of them. Good people. My kinda people.

My selection was just that amazing.

You're all welcome.

I guess since we're posting hot takes, I'll post mine. I don't like Yoshi's Island.

In fact, I never managed to bring myself to beat Yoshi's Island. That game always loses my interest halfway through. This is actually a reason I'm considering voting for it, to force myself to finish it.

While I simply cannot abide by the notion that nobody likes Super Metroid, simply because it is a fantastic game which deserves praise despite other excellent entries in the series...

...I won't force others to play it by casting it as my vote because I just know I'll be playing it again myself someday so that would be a fruitless exercise. :p

But when it comes to Donkey Kong Country 2 I really can't say that I'm that enthused at the thought of playing it, as I really do prefer the third entry...

...though I do still appreciate the original for the landmark title which it was back in the day and still is in many ways. :)

So that just leaves Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island which I'll go ahead and admit that it is the title I've probably spent the least amount of time on, despite covering it in the past...

...I think it just has a lot to do with Baby Mario's constant crying, it just sets you on edge, much like a baby crying does in reality and Nintendo seemed to really nail that sound effect. :blank:

But I suppose it's time for me to just try and get over it and play the game properly and not on the GBA version or any of the Virtual Console versions...

...only the original cartridge will cut it this time, so I will make the effort for this one (the previous Game Club games I feel like I'd played to death already) and get the cart out. :D

I have taken to going back to playing SNES games more than anything else recently anyway as I'm playing them on my newly acquired Analogue Super NT...

...which also means that those virtual Baby Mario crying noises are probably going to be even more harrowing. :(

Just what am I letting myself in for? Oh well... here we go, my vote goes to Game #3!

(you're all welcome)

Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles are all better than Yoshi's Island..

..though, at least if I play it this time I'll be going with the SNES Mini version as I've only ever played the GBA port :blank:

Game #3 for me.

A classic selection to choose from and I’ll enjoy replaying each of them.  I never completed #3 100% so I’d be happy for an excuse to try again! (Ok so I never managed to do that for #2 either, but no-one needs to know that...)

See, the choice is tough for me, since this would be an excuse to play through Super Metroid in a new way: rush to the end, try to go for a short time, instead of just leisurely exploring the game for collectibles, as I usually do.

On the other hand, running through levels is so much more fun in the DKC series that I was tempted to vote for that one from the start. I can rush through levels in a leisurely manner, best of both worlds.

And like I said before, I could instead buckle up and try to finally finish Yoshi's Island.

...

After much deliberation, I've settled on Donkey Kong Country 2 for my vote. The itch to replay DKC won out.

So this month's game is Yoshi's Island with 50% of the vote. (That sounds more impressive than 3)

I'll get to work on the thread.

Ah, I forgot to vote.

Which means you can't complain.

Out of interest, what would you have voted for?

I'm not. I'll give it a fair chance. :heh:

Probably DKC2, I've played Super Metroid recently so didn't feel like playing it again

Hate to break it to you, but that would have made it a tie. And then I would have asked everyone who voted Super Metroid to choose again.

And seeing as I was the only one who voted for that, I would have changed my vote to DKC 2, giving it the win.

Next time, vote!

OK, new month. I'm gonna give vote host duty to @S.C.G this time. Because he plays Monster Hunter with me. So there!

Oh wow, thanks Glen, I'm honoured! :D

Even though I haven't really had the time to take part in the previous N-E Video Game Club months, I'll be sure to choose three titles which I'll totally play.

I'm tempted to make one choice a game which I'm currently replaying, so for that reason I'd probably go with SNES games again, unless anyone else has a system preference?

I could totally recomend some N64 games but... I'm not sure how accessible they would be for everyone.

Anyway, I'll see about posting my choices tomorrow, with any luck. :peace:

If my time hosting taught me anything, is that you can totally get away with choosing three games from distinct consoles. It definitely helps if they follow a theme.

See I'm thinking along two different lines of thought with my potential choices...

The first would be to choose three games, from the same series, across three different platforms, two of which have VC releases, one does not.

Or, the other alternative would be three games, on the same format, which is obviously SNES because two of them are on the SNES Classic mini, the other has VC release(s).

All of the games will be from the same publisher either way.

I'm leaning towards the second option at the moment but I'll make a decision later. :peace:
