...That feeling when you're trying the hardest monster...Using Dual blades and everyone else picks hammers...as soon as we get to the monsters 1 person quit's... then moments later another dies...Then another player quits...I miss hunting with the gang.

Yup. I've been playing MH since the original game and I've never experienced such a lack of quality when it comes to random players. Players keep quitting out and getting killed off the stupidest stuff or even run to the boss area and then just stand there only to be killed a few seconds later.

The hardest monster in the demo isn't even that hard. He telegraphs most of his attacks pretty blatantly. The dive bomb move is so easy to avoid yet people drop like flies to it.

I managed to get a quick hunt in before work. 3 deaths all caused by the dive bomb move.

One person died twice to the thing!

Makes sense when you consider that the series is much more popular now compared to the past, thanks to Monster Hunter World.

They're all getting a rude awakening with this demo though

This is true. Saying that, i'd argue the Nergigante fight in the World demo was harder than this and people didn't seem to be have half as much trouble with him. Then again, if people are coming from World and then to this, then they are probably not used to things like stopping while using a potion. :D

I'm determined to beat the Jet with a group of randomers before the the game comes out!

Ha ha! That's a good idea for a challenge! Might have to try that myself at some point before the game's launch!

Are you on about the move where he disappears and then suddenly lands on you out of nowhere, taking 90% of your health bar in the process? :heh: Because if so, it’s not that easy to avoid, not for me at least. And I sure as hell am not surprised at anyone getting KO’d by it, especially newcomers to the MH series!

To be honest I find these demos to be kind of annoying, I mean they give you such crap armour/weapons that even hunting the easy monster takes ages. :hmm: Let alone crazy jet plane thing! I bet it puts more people off the game than making them want to buy it, and it certainly isn't indicative of how things play out in the full game either, I mean nobody will be taking on the intermediate or advanced monsters with that kind of gear. :blank:

You just need to look at his icon on the map and when he is about to swoop down it's time to...

Failing that you can also peg it out of the area. :D

You using a Prowler? I've only seen one other person using it so far and he was quite a good player. I think it was him who was giving the team buffs, not that it helped much. :p

Yup. This is so very true. I've already read a number of posts from people who are staying well clear of the game thanks to the demo. A far better way of going about it would be for Capcom to unlock a certain amount of the early game. This would allow players to craft some gear of their own, learn how to gather and fight a smaller beastie. The data would then be carried over to the main game.

Yeah, but the demo Prowler is so unbelievably useless (even more so for me, as I'm so used to my ludicrously OP boomerang cat on 3DS :D) that I had to revert to using Hammer. :hehe:

Definitely.

The way it's setup now is almost as if it's been specifically designed to put people off! :heh: I mean they could at the very least have the gear change/upgrade depending on the monster you choose to hunt, even that slight modification would make the demo more true to the experience of the full game.

The fact that they are pitting brand new players up against late game monsters is ridiculous.  They’re just cattle being lead to slaughter here!

Of course you’re gonna get people complaining about the game being “rough” or “unfair”, especially if they’re used to MHW or have never played any MH game before.  This demo is doing more harm than good for the game’s chances.

Given how Capcom have treated this release, it's probably exactly what they wanted. :D

Yeah, it seems impossible to dodge but there is a way.

There's a special kind of evasion that you can do when you have your weapon sheathed. If you run away from a monster and then evade, you'll do a big dive that has lots of invincibility frames but a lot of ending lag.

No way to normally dodge it then? That's a bit shitty.

I knew about the evasive maneuvre, someone mentioned it in the thread, so I hung on to that ability for emergency escapes. I just didn't know that was a move where I had to use it. I also don't know the timing of the attack.

It's part of the learning experience with Monster Hunter. With the harder monsters, it takes practice to learn how to dodge various attacks and you will get smacked around plenty of times. Sooner or later, you get the hang of it and it feels so satisfying once you do.

Don't be put off by Valstrax. It's a toughie and the crappy demo armour doesn't help matters. By the time someone gets to it in the full game, they'll be loads better.

It might be worth experimenting with the different Hunter Styles if you play again. (Guild, Adept, Valor, etc.) They add a new layer to gameplay and can help develop your playstyle.

For example, Adept only gives you one D-Pad special attack, but in return, dodging right before you get hit gives you a super dodge that can go through anything. And if you use the Light Bowgun, it then instantly reloads your ammo and powers them up for about 20 seconds.

@Sméagol you might be interested in this useful video for using the Light Bowgun, seeing as that's the weapon you seem to be taking a shine to. It also covers the Heavy Bowgun as well.

It doesn't help that the armour in the demo is REALLY bad...like...The hardest Monster in the Demo is a Plus monster, While the armour your given is Low rank, and barely upgraded at all. Like, at that point of the game you would at least have high rank armour, if not fully upgraded low rank armour.

Only played MH3U previous to this. I really enjoyed it on Wii U, but felt the 3DS was a poor experience in comparison.

The Switch in portable mode has pretty much fixed everything that put me off the 3DS games. The controls are good and the screen size and resolution are much better.

Lots of new stuff for me with the expanded character classes, new weapons and special moves. Very tempted to buy the full game.

The fact that the Switch has a better form factor makes it so much more playable. I remember my right hand being completely knackered and I was in serious pain when I first started playing MH on the 3DS. Eventually my hand got used to it but man it was rough for a few days.

I've decided to skip this. It has released too close after World for me. Also, ive only put 70hrs into that game and have so much more to do.

I'm still going back and forth as to whether to keep my preorder of this. I tried playing the demo again last night and even though it's been out for a week now I was still getting paired with players who were dying left and right. The whole thing has just been a frustrating experience.

For those wanting to transfer their saves, apparently the app is now available to download on the 3DS.

Well if you transfer your save file and carry on with it, you won’t be getting matched up with newbies; you’ll be getting matched up with veterans.  So it shouldn’t be a problem in the full game :)

Greetings!

I always loved this saga, but I only played the PSP games and the Wii version.

What is the main reason I should play this game instead of Monster Hunter World on PC -max settings and blahblah, since I have a rather nice computer-? I've been told that the gameplay is actually different, but I have not played it first-hand.

Thank you very much.

MHGU is basically a best-of collection of monsters and stages from every previous game in the series.  It takes a ton of past monsters and stages and puts them into the MH4 engine.  It has over 100 monsters to fight and over 1,000 quests!

This is the final game done with the traditional style of gameplay, before Monster Hunter World streamlined a lot of things for the western audience.

It also has a really cool style system which greatly changes how the combat plays out, allowing you to specialise in certain styles of fighting and really fight the way you want to.

Don't think mine has even been dispatched yet. :blank:

Are you transferring your 3DS save data over?

Sweet! Get a nice headstart on those single player quests.

Or more importantly, think about any shout-outs you might want to tweak.
